About Solar STC Calculator
The Small Generator Unit Solar STC Calculator allows off-line estimation of the number of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) or Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) with Solar Credits, with transitional Solar Credits, and without Solar Credits that may be created under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme in relation to an installation under Australian legislation.
The app logic was informed by the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001 and the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Amendment (Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2010 (14th December 2010), and as such is designed specifically for use in Australia under the current legislative conditions. That said, Ten Bears will continue to evolve the calculator, including updating logic as relevant legislation is updated, and adding capability as requested by users.

Instructions
1. Enter the rated power output of the system measured in kilowatts-peak (kWp). In line with the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001, this value cannot be greater than 100 kW.
2. Select the period for which the certificates are created (one, five or 15 years). The 15 years value is pre-filled by default.
3. Enter the installation address postcode. This ensures the correct multiplier is applied in line with the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001 (Schedule 5 Zone ratings and zones for solar (photovoltaic) systems (subregulation 20 (4)).
4. Click the Calculate button. Note that this button is disabled until valid entries are input as described above.
The results page will open and describe:
1. the installation postcode zone (1 to 4),
2. the number of STCs with Solar Credits,
3. the number of STCs with Solar Credits if the Transitional Provisions apply (in line with the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Amendment (Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2010 (14th December 2010), and
4. the number of STCs without Solar Credits.
Click your device's 'back' button to perform another calculation.
Assumptions
Version 1.0 of the STC Calculator was commissioned by Southern Cross Renewable Energy for use by its consultants; however, Ten Bears is happy to receive requirements from anyone looking for more capability in the application. Please review the assumptions listed below for an understanding of the present capability.
The assumptions listed below have been made in accordance with the requirements provided by Southern Cross Renewable Energy:
1. The calculator estimates the number of STCs for eligible small generation unit solar (photovoltaic) systems, i.e., it is not designed for hydro-electric systems or wind turbines.
2. The calculations are in line with the requirements set out under subregulations (2A) and (2B) of Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001.
3. The installation will not be an off-grid small generation unit.
4. The installation will installed at an eligible premises during period of 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012. (Note: This relates to the multiplier for certificates for small generation units under subsection 20AA subregulation (2) of Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001. A future update to this app will allow estimation of STCs outside that period.)
Disclaimer
The STC Calculator was developed to provide an estimate of the number of STCs that may be created under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme in relation to an installation. The STC Calculator logic is based on legislative data which may be updated from time to time and therefore results using the calculator may vary between updates. The STC Calculator should not be used as the basis for making any decision or embarking on any course of action. Please refer to the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator for links to current legislation.
