Yappy - SMS on PC & Tablet for Android
Im getting an error "google auth api is not working properly" will edit review if/when this is fixed
Doesn't work with Huawei nova 7.0 / EMUI 5.0
Show only some messages, not all like pushbullet and Mighty text does.
Love the app and it has worked exactly as advertised!
Love the app and use it across multiple devices. Only issue is on my tablet 7.1.1 it doesn't show notifications even though they are on. They are also not being blocked by the system. The messages still come through but I just don't get notified of them. With the chrome extension on Windows 10, this is a non-issue.
XMPP has been in "alpha" for about a year now. Does not seem to be a focus. It will occasionally work just great for about the first week of enabling XMPP and restarting the service, but generally speaking it does not work. I would give it less but I have no problems with the web interface. Unfortunately for me the web interface is something I have no interest in.
This app works great, for the most part. On occasion I have to refresh my browser to get it to respond, but this is no big deal considering that the app is free, unlike mightytext charging $60 for the same thing. Keep up the great work!
I installed a few different apps to be able to see my phone messages at my desktop throughout the day, and to cover those occasions where I left my phone at home. Yappy uses my gmail account, so no need to have something running when it's not needed, unlike all the others that I found that have to be installed on my phone and running in the background constantly. It's very easy to mute certain types of notifications too - like facebook, etc. if you don't want to see them pop up on your desktop!
It could have been good. I liked the interface, even if logging in was more difficult than necessary. Some of the frippery was obnoxious but easily hidden. However, after a few days Yappy told me I needed to upgrade to a business account. Why? I'd sent and received maybe a dozen texts over 5 days. Oh well, back to Airdroid.
Does exactly what I need it to do. Utilize my desktop to send and receive txt messages. I don't use other features so its perfect. It's also free to send as many messages as you want as opposed to Mighty Text which limits number of messages you can send
Excellent interface, the web app is smooth, and sent texts move back to the phone quickly. I've previously used mysms and megatext, and this is by no small margin the best app for texting from your computer.
I just wanted to be able to send SMSes from my PC via my phone, and while Yappy can do that, it also bothers me to upgrade to premium for all the bells and whistles. I don't want to update to premium and I don't want the bells and whistles, so stop bothering me please.
Update: The app has been updated and seems to be working better but I still lose the occasional text. Wish there was better support for yappy pro users
Yappy is ok. From the Chrome icon, I have to open Yappy in a full tab to reply to a text. I'd rather see the recent texts right from the icon. And when I try to reply to a group text, it doesn't go through.
It's not bad. However the downloadable version on the computer is a little slower and closes out. Could use a new look also.
I thought the app would sync across platforms. Installed evolvesms and when I delete I still have to delete again on each platform. No simultaneous sync.
Love this, great alternative to buying Pushbullet premium
I,love this app.....but at the start it takes a long time to lode
Great app. Best free option out there without a doubt.
Cannot send group texts. Any way to fix that?
You
I finally switched over to an iphone so I have no need for yappy. However when I was using yappy for texting via my computer there is no other program that could compete. Mightytext has limits and wouldn't always work. Moreover, after stopping the use of yappy, they automatically deleted my data which is very good.
One out of every 8-10 messages fail, but only every few days. Also, you can only see group messages, as my sends have all failed. I prefer PushBullet's PC notifications, but mostly because it delivers everything (Gmail, YouTube, phone calls, etc.) I haven't reached any limits yet on the free version, but PB limits to 100 sends. I'll give MightyText one more try, else I'm getting new friends that don't use SMS.
I think the program is good but does not justify the cost of the paid version. I think Yappy would do much better to lower the cost and try to sell more subscriptions. As of now I don't get enough benefit to pay for the service but if the price point were lower it may be more attractive.
Currently like it much better than MightyText. Their notifications on Chrome are much nicer and easier to respond to. Their rates per month are also half the price of MightyText. This is also much better than Airdroid, especially since Airdroid's desktop client is obtrusive and somewhat intensive.
Update 2: Upgraded phone, no longer on phone with low-memory or custom ROM. Still hopelessly unreliable. App is trash and nobody should waste their time on it. Update 1: Completely unreliable. Tried to support it on Kickstarter but I'm tired of it only working a quarter of the time. Really bad on data. Notifications are very spotty. Not an MMS issue, none were received. Just spiked about 1GB within an hour. Be careful using this, you might blow through your data and get hit with huge costs.
11/05 - won't allow for force stop. continuously running in background. also, can't attached pic from desktop. Works great for short sms. Which is what texting should be about anyways
The app is good in general for basic texting but could use some improvements especially when using the chrome extension. These things need fixing or implementation to compete with Mighty Text. 1) MMS does not work 2) Notification from phone does not work except for incoming text 3) Ability to pop out your text conversation into a separate window like mighty text. 4) Add all android emoji's to the webpage version. I should note my phone is running android 7.0. If these things were fixed I would rate your app 5 stars and pay for the lifetime membership.
I love this app! It has a few glitches and doesn't work perfectly BUT for a free app that allows me UNLIMITED TEXTING FROM MY PC AT WORK who's complaining?!? I mean come on people! Give this guy some love and encourage him to make Yappy better instead of leaving unhelpful one star reviews. I'm really thrilled there's no cap on the amt of SMS I can send unlike those other apps. Marius, keep up the good work! I'm using Yappy on a Oneplus One phone running the latest stock android. Thank you 1000x over!!!!
Ultimately flawed. I will note that every SMS program like this I've used has never worked 100%. Yappy is no different. I will try to send messages from my laptop or desktop and they just won't go through. It becomes unreliable so you have to stop using it. I'd like to get pro, but I can't bring myself to pay for such a flawed product that only works 75% of the time. But like I said, it's the same as every other SMS program. Maybe there is something inherently flawed with Google Android that doesn't allow these to work? I don't know, but it doesn't work when you really need it to.
When you can even try it out with all of your messages what good the product? You can't compare to mySMS or even The phone clientless MightyText when it comes to trying it out. That's why they're so few users. If there was a way to try out the full functionality and then pay there be many many more users. Also make sure there's never ever again be a complaint about message Integrity between devices. Even if its slow the message must arrive. This comes from years of software dev&biz. Take my advice.
Until things improve with Google messaging service upon which applications like this rely on i doubt that I'll ever find a messaging application that reliably works with a computer or tablet. Yappy works better than mighty text but sooner or later I always end up trying to send a message from my PC and seeing a spinning circle that won't go away even if I fool around with the phone to verify that yappy is working on it.
Love it. Was looking for an alternative to Mighty SMS since they started charging about a year ago after message limit reached. This has been perfect!
Great texting solution, however this app is the number 1 batter drain on my phone, even if I do not actively use the service.
SMS worked great but I was unable to send group texts. Otherwise, nice looking interface
I want to like it as it has serious potential but it is too buggy and has poor customer service. I have sent 4 messages to customer service regarding duplicate images appearing in threads but have not received a response from any.
Literally sends 1 out of 10 messages. Im looking at a message as I type that has been sitting there saying "Sending". To think I was going to get the pro version. This program is beyond buggy. Uninstalling after months of annoying issues.
Installed Yappy on one single phone and one single computer. Every notification shows up on the computer like 8 times at once. The entire right side of my screen fills up with duplicate notifications that all must be manually closed. Major duplicate bugs. No auto-timeout on notifications? Pass.
Works fine itself, but I don't like that the desktop client has to have an open item on the taskbar that cannot be closed or only run from the notification area Edit: I'll have to go back and retry then! Thanks

This is the only app that successfully syncs sent SMS/MMS back to my phone. The user interface is well-defined, and just works. Everyone knows Android doesn't do messaging well. Yappy does a great job of filling the gap, especially when used with EvolveSMS.
