Mandarin Tap, is a simple effective way to learn Mandarin Chinese. Learn by constructing words and phrases out of mandarin characters. As each word is constructed, the meaning and Mandarin pronunciation are appended. You are first instructed on how to construct the words and phrases, then your recall of them is tested. Progress against each individual character is tracked, so its easy to see which characters are proving tricky.

The interface is very sleek and makes memorising characters fun and rewarding. I know the developer listens to feedback so it's likely to keep getting better. This freemium model works, too, in that you get to try the functionality and learn a few basic words/characters to decide whether the full version is worth However, it's missing a very important feature that would instantly make me want to buy the full version: the ability to be prompted by any of hanzi, pinyin, spoken Mandarin or English and be required to provide the answer in the opposite language. I want to improve my ability to translate in both directions as well as to be able understand both written and spoken Mandarin. If the author implements this, I'd happily pay for the full version.

It is hard to sample this application with only three basic lessons. some aspects of interface are smooth, and a different concept then flash cards.

Very good app for solidifying ones knowledge of Chinese characters. As previously mentioned though it would be great to see some exercises focusing on pinyin and translation in the other direction. Off to try out the extra lessons in the full version :-)
