About WachDog - Android Apps Monitor
We install different apps on our mobile phone and allow these apps to have access to various files and folders. These apps could also access our private data, say photo gallery. Other operations which an app may performs could be finding our geo-location and/or initiating Bluetooth file transfer and so on.
These apps ask for our permission about accessing our data, but promise not to access without notification or without explicit action by the user. We cannot guarantee if the apps are suspicious or not. We might want to monitor as which folders and applications were accessed by the apps. In such cases, WachDog would help to easily monitor the background activities of these apps.We can then remove any app accessing Camera and Contacts for some without any notification or user’s action.
Despite of having wide range of logging applications, only android developers install them. A non-technical person can’t understand the complex system logs. So, instead of just dumping the System Logs on display, WachDog analyzes the logs and provide a list of accessed applications, files and folders, in a simple way.
The main intent is to analyze the background operating system activities of the mobile apps. This involves monitoring and analyzing the log generated and producing the list of accessed applications, files and folders to the user. Please follow the screenshots to understand the functionality.
NOTE: CatLog android application is used to generate system log file. Also, ROOT access is required to Read logs. If you have ROOT access, you can install the CatLog from the WachDog app itself. It is required to have the app installed for the WachDog to monitor your mobile operating system.
This application was developed as an academic project.
