Written by GRE experts
The entire GRE wordlist is selected and defined with usage examples by Magoosh’s expert tutors, led by Chris Lele. He has been teaching the GRE for more than 10 years, runs a popular vocabulary series on YouTube and he’s also written an eBook on vocabulary. He is unbeatable in Scrabble, or any other word game for that matter.

Review that really sticks
Academic research has found that memories are formed by repeated exposure to new information, so Magoosh’s flashcard app uses a spaced repetition system. Words you are learning will reappear frequently (occurring less frequently the better you know them) and words you already know won’t be repeated. The word list is also culled to only 1000 so that you don't waste time learning unimportant words.

I loved the way this app keeps showing the words every now and then and ensures that you've REALLY understood the meanings. I never had imagined that I will learn 51 words just in one single day!!

It's good, just wanted to request for feature. I want to be able to select out words I frequently struggle with and form a separate deck for them, something like 'odd men out' which Chris mentions in one of his vocab videos.

D70%
by D####:

Excellent app.just few glitches. - once a deck is mastered, if I go back to it to review, the same 2-3 words are repeated. All the words should be displayed randomly. -While switching between different apps(with autorotate) it zooms in automatically. Is it just me or others too.if you could fix that, it would be even better. Thnx

X70%
by X####:

After using the app for several hours last night and "mastering" the first deck, I wish there was an option to see the definition first. I believe this would help with really mastering the vocabulary because you would have to not only remember the word, but also remember how to spell it too. As I went through the deck I noticed I was recognizing the words without really focusing on their spelling or pronunciations.

by D####:

He app has a ton of words that you can practice for the GRE of all different levels of difficulty. I would recommend it. However, it's frustrating that the words you "don't know" cycle on a loop. Using the advanced 1 section, I found the same 10 words I didn't know repeating themselves. I'm not going to learn a new word by seeing it multiple times in a row. There needs to be an adequate time between learning a new word and testing it to make sure that it has been encoded properly.

B70%
by B####:

This app is very good and easy to use. The words keep repeating after certain intervals ensuring that you know that word. I request Magoosh team to include images with each word, pronunciation for each word along with synonyms and antonyms.

V70%

To be honest, I didn't know many words before I happen to use this app but now after daily practice on this app I am pretty much updated on vocabulary. Now I have multiple choices for word selection.

O70%
by O####:

Hello guys.. Reset is not working. Can you please this as fast as possible.. I am revising again and this will help as in normal same words keep repeating again and again

D70%
by D####:

It's a good , however once a deck is completed and you review the deck some of the words keep repeating over and over again , this overshadow some important words present in the deck and be missed out. If this can be fixed then , this is probably the best vocabulary improving app

D70%
by D####:

The app is well made. Everything from the interface to the user experience is very good. BUT, THERE HAS BEEN A RECENT PROBLEM: I used it after a few months again, and this time, particular pairs of words keeps repeating back and forth on each deck, continuously show up back and forth, regardless of how many times you answer them. Like on first deck, it shows say 'A', then 'B', then 'A' again and so on. Please fix this ASAP, as it made the app pretty much useless.

D70%
by D####:

I would like to suggest one thing that let user add their own sentence or phrase below the word meaning. Learning from an example that takes place in real life is more beneficial.

X70%
by X####:

Normally I don't rate apps but y'all helped with my GRE and I feel indebted to y'all. If u work with this app, U'll never regret it.

D70%
by D####:

This app has amassed a good inventory of the most probable GRE words! One drawback is that, words keep repeating in a deck while reviewing.

D70%
by D####:

Several of the meanings are inaccurate. I don't know why they simply don't show the dictionary meanings

D70%
by D####:

Also add pictures. And mnemonic and voice integration and crazy stuff. Change the color of the app make it red or yellow. Make it more lively.

D70%
by D####:

A really nice way to practice vocabulary on the go. A simple suggestion is to add Phonetics of the words. This would help non English speakers to be able to read news words correctly.

D70%
by D####:

I have not taken the gre as of yet, however, this is an excellent tool for honest studying. The more you put in the more you'll take out.

D70%
by D####:

There should also be a way to use the cards where just the definition is shown initially without the actual word. The flipside of the card would then be the word. This could supplement how the app currently operates & would provide the student a fun alternative method to understanding and committing the vocabulary to memory... it would enable the student to quiz themselves in the "other direction", where the goal is to recall the actual vocabulary word instead of the definition.

C70%
by C####:

The way flashcards are designed and the order is so perfect..absolutely speechless...there is one thing which is lacking is motivation to stick to the task and going on...so should include some sort of test section creating challenge

D70%
by D####:

A must have for any GRE aspirant. It allows you to learn new words at your own pace and keeps shuffling and repeating the words untill u master it. Apart from the word meaning it also provides its sentence usage which is great! However i wish there was a feature to bookmark words that u find hard to remember.

A70%
by A####:

Perfect app. I learnt only the common and basic decks, and those were good enough for me. All important words were covered. One feature that I felt should be introduced is resetting of individual deck. I had to reset all decks to re visit the words already mastered. Otherwise, the same words kept reappearing in a loop. But brilliant otherwise. Thank you Magoosh.

H70%
by H####:

Extremely helpful app. But the UI needs work. I'm having a hard time with the interface. I've not been able to put any of the words for review. I can't figure out how to do that. Additional, the progress made needs to be saved wherein one can revise the words studied the previous day before moving on to the next word.

A70%
by A####:

Well you cannot list the words which is very tiresome at times. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE DECKS CANNOT BE RESET FOR REVISION. I know there is an option but it is no good. It does not work. I wish you would restore the previous version where we could reset the levels too.

What a handy and useful app! I don't have much time to sit and go through a book for vocabulary but this app makes for good learning before going to sleep every night. I like how it keeps repeating words in a deck so they really stick in my mind and ive noticed a significat improvement in my sentence construction since I've started learning from the app.

A70%
by A####:

~Pros: good interface, easy to use, variety of words at different skill levels. ~Cons: some repeated words, even at different levels, and, most significantly, no way to track words you had difficulty with between sets! This is huge, as it makes it difficult to track problem words once you've "learned" them once

D70%
by D####:

I've looked through gre vocab books and these words are the same ones. The plus is that this is free and I don't have to carry flash cards around, I can just use my phone and start off where I left off. They also make the words you mark as "don't know" appear again and again which can get annoying sometimes but for the most part it helps you master the words.

D70%
by D####:

Easy to use, and also allows you to prove your skills against other app users. One think to improve are the examples provides for each words. Sometimes they define a new word with a tricky word, so it's hard to learn these type of words because only one example is provided.

D70%
by D####:

The app is very nice indeed. I feel there is a scope of improvemrnt in one aspect. Suppose I am going through a deck, I have learnt a few words. And suppose if I happen to only remember a word and not its meaning, it should have an option so that I can search for the word and see its meaning. In the current case, I need to remember in which deck the word which I am thinking of is present in, plus i need to go through the whole deck. Pronounciations of the words given is also beneficial.

D70%
by D####:

This is the best app in store. With a simplistic style and a very light toned color adds to the simplicity of the app. The algorithm of the appearance/re-appearance of the flashcards is just amazing. Such an excellent app without any cost is heartily appreciated. I just wish to continue to write in adulation of this app, yet feel equally compelled to not make it a long prolixity to prevent from users to read this review.

D70%
by D####:

This app is pretty good for learning new words, but has no way to review a deck (i.e. go through an entire deck in one shot with no repeats) without resetting all the decks. A simple review button next to Practice This Deck would make it easy to review already leaned decks in a few minutes, instead of seeing the same words repeatedly, or having to reset every time.

D70%
by D####:

There is one thing I would like to mention, instead of flipping the card where we get an answer to the word, it should rather have been learning with multiple choice options. So that it's clear that one knows the word or doesn't.

W70%
by W####:

I really like this app and feel like it is helping. I think it would be nice if it gave you the option to add your own note to the back of the flashcard, something you know will help you remember it. I got the word inundate while walking my dog and said to myself, "Finlay is inundating the grass." It helped me remember the definition, to flood or overwhelm. Sometimes I forget these but seeing it on the back of the card with the definition would help.

The GRE Flashcards app is great for building vocabulary while you have gaps in your day. I often start up the app as I wait for meetings to start etc. The vocabulary words are accessible for everyday conversation and I find myself using them regularly

D70%
by D####:

Combined with vocabulary builder, these apps are essential for GRE takers in their smartphone. can say goodbye to big-heavy dictionary and use your cellphone instead. Would love if they update with new feature to make your own set for some word that are scattered around several decks to focus on user weakness.

1. Algorithm no correctly showing words while revising the words after successfully mastering it. Not all words are displayed for revision. 2. Some innovative approach should be induced for last minute revision of words. I mean like providing additional option to quickly go through the list of words for last minute revision.

This app excellent for studying on the go. It's simple and easy to use while providing a solid studying tool. I practice on this app while I'm on the train, waiting in line, or while I take a short break at work!

Good app but it doesn't sync properly between the Desktop version and the mobile client. It said I had mastered 51/51 in a deck when I was still going through it in the mobile version and had mastered 20/51. Defeats the purpose of the Desktop version if it doesn't sync.

K70%

Words selection is great. Unknown words repeat itself. Progress can be saved online but in reinstalling the app i observated all reviewing words became mastered words. If you can add a feature of reading out words and sentences that would be nice. Overall good app and recommended.

D70%
by D####:

The premise of the app is simply ingenuous because it is ingeniously simple. A word is displayed, prompting one either to hit the green know or red don't know buttons once the definition is displayed. My only complaint is that the format should resemble more of the GRE sample questions and/or have to choose the correct word or definition from a few choices. Even so, this app is probably a 9/10.

I love Magoosh apps. They provide very simple flashcards that provide the the right amount of information in the back to help you learn and apply the things you've learned. I have both the Vocab and Math apps. I just wish that for the vocab flash cards they'd add the option to hear the words being pronounced. I'm always mispronouncing words on accident; an audible example would spare me from any future embarrassment. (:
