What are users saying about Australian Birds Sounds Free

Nice resource, I'm sure it will come in handy. Lost a star because some of the recordings, even of common birds (eg. Pelican) are very poor, with human voices included.

Y70%
by Y####:

Good selection but some bird calls are naturally not strikingly loud and I could hear background voices of humans

E70%
by E####:

OK . Sounds are very uneven in loudness. Crested Bellbird call, for example, is almost inaudible. Some are swamped by other birds calling. I managed to put one bird in a personal list, but cannot figure out how to add more. What role does the checklist play? Dunno! And its FAR too easy to hit the scroll bar when selecting birds in the checklist. Needs to be separated.

F70%
by F####:

Good idea and the app is fine but the quality of the recording is very mixed. Some have too much background noise including voices, traffic etc some there are several birds and some the call is atypical.

Y70%
by Y####:

I am living in Australia for a couple years and wanted to keep track of all the birds I see here, but I don't see the scarlet robin on the list.

Y70%
by Y####:

I love it. Good audio quality, nice little pics. Only seems 2B missing Emu & Lyrebird

Z70%
by Z####:

Sound quality varies from bird to bird, but I love the idea!

Y70%
by Y####:

Marvellous app, can't wait to hear more x

Y70%
by Y####:

Awesome for people if you have birds????

Y70%
by Y####:

The Australian Bustard call is only heard once but Koel in the background recording can confuse those who have never heard a Koel for the Aussie Bustard. Make sure u there is only one 'clear sound' dominating recordings; orherwise, great app!

I have found this app quite good. I would suggest to those who aren't happy with what after all is free to go out themselves and record the sounds and put them online for others, also use a decent speaker instead of your inbuilt one. Give some people a used $100 note and they'll complain it's not new.

Excellent reference.. Birds and calls

Y70%
by Y####:

I wanted to give you 5 stars but couldn't considering that some of the bird calls were hardly audible and distorted and far too brief to appreciate, sorry.

Y70%
by Y####:

The scroll bar on the right is a little annoying but meh its a free app. Just wish i could figure out the noise of a bird near me :)

L70%

So cool

Y70%

Great app and many many thanks to the developer for all of your hard work

Can't work out how to put seen birds into a list, and some birds not given thier correct local name. Eg. Murray Magpie, not magpie lark in SA

The checkbox is position right where the scroll bar overlays. I keep jumping half way down the list trying to tick the boxes.

Y70%
by Y####:

And there's way to much distortion in the call recordings.

W70%
by W####:

Too much background noise.. Which unless bird is in solitary confinement.. is probably unavoidable.

Fantastic app!

Good for describing birds to grandchildren. Thanks!

Dosen't work on s4

Z70%

Some sounds are ok, some are crap. Also some sounds are with the wrong bird. The magpie lark for example. Wrong bird!

Q70%
by Q####:

The Kookaburra sounds more like a turkey. The magpie is just plain wrong and the adverts make the app virtually unusable.

R70%

Great for the kids photography and school nature projects

Fantastic app!

Love, our beautiful aussie, birds

Z70%
by Z####:

My magpie recommended it !

L70%
by L####:

This app is a good idea but there should have been more finessing before release. The recordings are all different levels and sound like they were done in the 70's with a hand held tape recorder. The background noises sometimes overwhelm the sound of the birds. There is no information about the birds unless you are connected. Not very helpful in remote areas.

I have a lot of fun with this just talking with local birds. Some of whom responde with great enthusiasm!
