About AnVICEx64

AnVICE is a VICE x64 port for Android. VICE is an emulator from VICE Team which emulates lots of Commodore computers. This port included the x64 portion which emulate a Commodore 64 (C64).

Known Issues
============
- On some device it failed to call out the software keyboard. In this case, try holding the "menu" hardware key, or turn on (menu->input mode->show keyboard fix).

General Tips
============
- Put C64 and Drive ROM into a writable sdcard under folders named "c64" and "drives" respectively and place them side by side, e.g. /sdcard/vice/c64 and /sdcard/vice/drives. Get WinVICE for reference.
- If have problem running some program, try turning on "True Drive Emulation" before emulation start.
- Use "menu->buttons->show buttons" to check hidden buttons and joystick area.
- Holding Special Keys onscreen button (Top Left) for Unlock Speed (Warp) mode.
- Savestate will bind to the autostart disk/tape inserted BEFORE the emulator started, disk change after that will not
change the binding.
- To avoid accidental mouse click, switch to Joystick mode/Scroll Screen mode, or turn off "Tap screen as Click" from "menu->input mode".
- Select change disk then press Back without selecing a disk file will eject a disk from the drive.
- Use Right-Alt instead of Left-Alt (or turning off "menu->input mode->map left-alt key") to type special letters on physical keyboard.
- To use D-Pad as keyboard arrows, make sure Joystick Keys is not in D-Pad mode ("menu->settings->joystick keys").
- To use Button Mapper, make sure Joystick Keys is disabled.
- Edit sdl-vicerc located in /sdcard for advance configuration.
- Use our "GameKeyboard" or "Flit Keyboard" with it's Extra Plugin as companion if needed.

Using Keyboard doesn't function as it should, android keyboard not working with games. Have to rely on virtual keyboard which then doesn't disappear usually resulting in game death and is difficult to locate (button 1 on V Joystick). Virtual joystick next to useless, buttons at top of screen meaning hand obscures gameplay. Work in progress ok and emulation working well but certainly no c64.emu which sadly no longer works. UI needs a complete overhaul but the core engine is certainly there.

Definatly one of the best C64 emulators on android.. Once you buy game keyboard and spend some time setting up VICE configuration from the F12 menu you'll have a setup just as good as VICE on PC.. Scanlines and CRT emulation both work perfectly on my nexus 7 2013 once setup properly.

I want to rate this a little higher because it runs faster than some of the other emulators, but it has some issues that I can't seem to resolve. When using a bluetooth keyboard, there doesn't seem to be a way to map the joystick fire button, which makes most games useless. I've tried every setting I can find and have even consulted the FAQ, but I just can't seem to make it work. If this issue gets resolved, I will definitely improve the rating. Also, the UI is a little clumsy. I was constantly fighting against it to get things done, and it doesn't seem to save any changes you make when you exit, so you have to reset things every time you load it up. So, I like what I see, and I hope it can be greatly improved...but for now, it's not ready for prime-time.

probably bad ratings are coming from ppl who have a hard time dealing w/ bios....perfect emulation just like vice ...ROM picker could be like yongzh emus...

Runs flawlessly on Samsung Galaxy S. Lots of features (e.g. disk swapping, multiple savestates, screen resize, button mapper, custom virtual keyboard support) and an easy to use GUI. Runs virtually every game, including everything that Frodo doesn't (e.g. Bard's Tale 3 & Dragon Wars). Developer reacts quickly to feature requests or bug complaints and even provides indivdual bug fixes via email. Very good! *Update*: On the Galaxy Note 2 it's still working great. As with all other locnet emus, the built-in joystick is a PITA, but you can either use GameKeyboard or GamePad instead.

Runs near or enough full speed on my Nexus 7 including truedrive emulation, pal emulation, audio and fullscreen (with no frameskip) What i would like would be more accurate SID emulation (at the moment only possible to use FastSID) Any future progress on using the latest sid emulation (resid etc) in particular for emulating the 8bit sample playback method. I know this would slow the emulation down, but nice to have the option to select it when required

Definatly the best C64 emulator on android.. Once you buy game keyboard and spend some time setting up VICE configuration from the F12 menu you'll have a setup just as good as VICE on PC.. Scanlines and CRT emulation both work perfectly on my nexus 7 2013 once setup properly. I was originally a fan of C64.emu but this emulator is far more complete with all VICE PC versions options plus with proper CRT emulation and scanlines that look as they should in landscape mode on my nexus.

Still needs a lot of work. I prefer free frodo over this. This needs a c64 keyboard and better menu system.

Wish this program had controls like frodo or mame for android. Slow joystick control response. Good compatibility but I can't get the program to exit properly on my Droid razr..

Yeah, it works, the interface is a bit better but right now not enough. Will update my rating if/when improvements are made.

Firstly, anyone who needs the ROMs can install the Pelya build of VICE (free) and point this version at /sdcard/app-data/org.viceteam.sdl/C64. Unlike the free port of VICE, the interface is nicely integrated with Android and it is possible to make the display full-screen with no border and keep the 4:3 aspect ratio. However, the resizing of the screen is arbitrary (unlike Frodo which can be constrained to double size) which results in a lot of aliasing. Turn on the "Smooth the video" option and there is some loss of video performance. I contacted the developer and received a really good response and a beta version to test, which did improve things. This is as good as it gets right now, so well worth the money.

Can't get this to work on a Galaxy S with Gingerbread (using the C64 kernal ROMS from Windows Vice). When attempting to load a game file it just goes blank for a fraction of a second then goes back to the main AnVice screen. Annoyingly, i can't find an email address for the developer either.

Doesn't work on HTC desire

Unlike every other C64 emu on the marketplace, this one doesn't come with any boot ROMS, so forget about just DLing this app and starting it up

If you like the C64, you must get this emulator. Haven't found a title it won't run, allows easy disk swapping, and just performs well in general. I'm also using the GameKeyboard software from the same author to map an iControlPad for joystick input. The author was quick to respond to email and very helpful. Running well on both Asus Transformer and Xperia Play.

much better than others on market. Would be 5 if zip support added.
