pesantren Walisongo ternyata memiliki ciri khas kesenian rebana yang mana dari awal berdirinya pesantren sampai saat ini. Secara individu KH Ma’ruf Islamuddin yang merupakan pengasuh pesantren sekaligus penggagas seni rebana Walisongo, memang senang dengan seni, terutama seni tarik suara. Kiai Ma’ruf memiliki moto ‘Dengan ilmu hidup lebih mudah, dengan seni hidup lebih indah, dan dengan agama hidup jadi terarah’, dan moto tersebut juga tertuliskan di studio rekaman Al Muntaha Record milik pesantren Walisongo.

Merujuk dari ciri khas para ulama yang menggunakan seni sebagai media dakwah, Kiai Ma’ruf Islamuddin pun juga menggunakan pedekatan seni. Seni dalam berdakwah merupakan sarana menyebarkan agama Islam yang telah dijelaskan di atas merupakan warisan dari para wali yang telah terbukti telah mengislamkan hampir semua wilayah di Jawa.
