About Living Sketchbook Vol. 1
The "Living Sketchbook" is new technology that lets you experience one of James Gurney's actual sketchbooks on your smartphone or tablet.
Volume 1 features the sketchbook entitled "Boyhood Home."
With this app you're able to:
• Explore every single page in high resolution with pinch-to-zoom interactivity.
• Listen to voiceover describing the details of brushes, paints, and technique.
• Hear the actual sounds recorded while the paintings were completed.
• Watch videos of some of the images actually being painted.
This app includes super high res zoomable images, voiceovers for the cover and all 24 sketches, plus 7 behind-the-scenes videos.
No internet connection is required after the initial download, so the app works perfectly while offline.
The app is compatible with both smartphones and tablets. We hope you enjoy it!

This is a fantastic idea. I love Gurney's art, and being able to get insight into each page of his sketchbook is so valuable. It's both an art resource and just plain cool to look at! The audio and video components are great additions, and well done.

I expected a more detailed commentary on the techniques and methods...as a beginner in water color, that's what I hoped for when the description in the app store said as such..but I have no plans to ask for a money-back and in fact feel that the price of the app is a bargain when the quality of the work on display is so high...hope you release more such volumes in future and this time please do think about us beginners too...regards, a big fan

If I could give more rating. I really love mr. Gurney's work. Amazing artwork and really inspiring me everyday. It's fantastic for me to see every page of his sketchbook. But, maybe if you can change the icon I think it will be better

Absolutely amazing. James Gurney is one of my favorite artists and definitely the best teacher I have seen online. His blog and YouTube channel are everything an artist could ask for and now we can even see his sketchbooks in HD. This app is truly something worth having. It may be very simple but the content is beyond what words can describe. I love it and I look forward to learning many things from these sketches.
