About ARSampler - OpenBeta AR Books
AR Sampler: If you care about improving and encouraging AR illustrations for books, please participate in this open beta. It is a short set of test scenes, free, and your help is appreciated. The app has links to the TARGET images you need to point your camera at - in order to see the AR content per target (so two devices: 1) app w/camera and 2) device to display website target images) .
If you are looking for a game, then this is not the app for you, sorry.
Thank you for participating in LDM's first experimental stress test aimed at book illustration AR use. Open Beta program.
Please do NOT rate this stress test. Instead, send email with feedback on your device. Ratings in this case are counterproductive, as this is NOT a product, and do not help improve the product. We need your device info and whether all stress tests worked on your device.
This is not a game. It's a set of stress tests designed to look like AR book scenes and a simple 3D illustration-themed mini-game. Please be aware this is a stress test, using high poly models and lots of effects, designed to push mobile android devices to their functional limits.
The information learned from this experiment will help build a new AR system just for book illustrations. Please don't judge it by game standards.
The next experiment will be on Windows 8 (Winter 2016). At which point this Android test will be discontinued/removed.
Minimum Recommendations:
1 Gig system memory or MORE. 1.3GHz Quad core processor or FASTER. Screen resolution of 1024. Camera of 1.2 - 2 Megapixel with good, SHARP focusing ability. HIGHER screen resolution, or camera meg, or USE of Everyplay during AR requires HIGHER system memory and CPU - or REDUCED time in AR mode (even at fastest game engine speed). NOT ALL IMAGE TARGETS CAN BE RECOGNIZED IF CAMERA FOCUS ABILITY POOR - PERFORMANCE WILL VARY BY DEVICE.
See the website FAQ for details, usage, explanations of features.
More Information:
AR View mode contains 4 AR scenes (4 target images) that you can gently interact with using an AR hand (hand target image).
AR Game mode: you use one image target (Sorcerer's Secretary book cover), point your camera, and it releases an AR physics shooter game into your room - touch the target and the firing starts automatically (just on and off, no need to keep pushing).
For the life-size, static Wickerman model, use the Shinigami Detective Bureau book cover (printed 8.5 by 11 inch).
The Sampler will point you to the URLs containing the images, it is suggested you print out the images or view them on a different device, such as a Nook, tablet or computer monitor, especially for AR Game mode.
With your support, LDM hopes to learn how far easily accessible Android devices with no special h/w can be pushed using current AR s/w, and then use that knowledge to create AR applications that enhance the book reading experience for everyone, adding a new level of interactivity to books, media, and other forms of entertainment.
Please Augment Your Reality Safely!
Please use this app responsibility. The app is intended to be used in a stationary position - the AR works best when target images are lying flat. Do not use while driving or other moving vehicles. Do not use as a passenger in a vehicle if there is a good chance of driver distraction. Do not use while physically moving if there is a chance of distraction that could lead to injury.
The AR Sampler is intended for general audiences, but parental guidance is suggested since the app does contain images a few people might find disturbing - and the advertisements are also for a general audience. Parental discretion is advised.
More information about the app, including the AR modes (view and game mode), the sketch-style mini-game, the Hands image targets (PDF download), as well as frequently asked questions, and of course, all that legal stuff (like privacy, EULA, terms, etc.) can be found on the LDM website/blog, at www.littledogsmedia.com.
