Mumbai is India’s largest city and the second most populous metropolitan area in India, with a population of over 20 million. It is India’s wealthiest city, with the highest GDP as well as the highest number of millionaires in the country. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and is an important seaport on the Arabian Sea.

Mumbai is the financial, commercial, and entertainment capital of India. It is also one of the world’s top-30 most powerful, productive and connected cities. Mumbai is a leading centre of commerce, generating over 6% of India’s GDP and accounting for 25% of industrial output, 70% of maritime trade in India (Mumbai Port Trust and JNPT), and 70% of capital transactions. Mumbai is also one of the leading destinations for start-ups in India.

The city houses important financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange of India, Securities and Exchange Board of India, and corporate headquarters of numerous Indian and multinational corporations. Mumbai is also the centre for the Hindi film and television industry (Bollywood). Mumbai’s business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attract migrants from all over India, making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures.
