About EV Range Calculator

Wether you own or consider buying an electric vehicule, EV Range Calculator allows you to estimate the range of most EV models (Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf, BMW i3...) for commuting. Select your origin and destination on the map, the application will propose you up to three alternative routes. Pick your model, set your speed limit and it will compute the following numbers for each route :
- The distance in miles or km
- The travel time
- The energy used in kWh
- The battery left in percent
- The total range with full battery
- The consumption in Wh per mile or km

These results takes into account:
-The characteristics of each model (weight, drag coefficient, battery capacity)
-The elevation profile of each route
-The speed limits

Be aware that these results are only estimations : in real life an electric vehicule range depends on several unpredictable parameters as wind, driving style, traffic conditions ...

What are users saying about EV Range Calculator

by X####:

Even though the Volt and the Ampera have a 16kWh battery, the usable capacity is of only 10kWh. Additionally, the application seems to be extremely pessimistic in its estimates. The concept is great, but has no correlation to the real world performance.

X70%
by X####:

It could be more useful if it was more realistic. It is very pessimistic and in no way correspond to the reality of range achieved with many cars. It makes me wonder if the parameter set as maximum speed refers to the average speed of the trip?

X70%
by X####:

App crashes each time I click "Directions". Hyundai Ioniq isn't on the list of cars. Please resolve app crashing and I will use it.

T70%
by T####:

Only calculates energy use for entire trip. Doesn't show or factor in any chargepoint waypoint (but implies it does in the settings) i need a route planner that will plot when and where to recharge along a long route

I70%
by I####:

It does exactly what google maps does, doesnt have all cars and vans and doesnt calculate shortest route or give you an option to charge route

X70%
by X####:

Often fails to lookup placenames when you're trying to run a calculation, also crashes a lot.

No option to configure car, does not have data for BMW i3 94Ah. Uninstalling now.

One big feature request is the ability to control the waypoints more clearly and specify the order of the stops. Also inputting addresses is glitchy.

D70%
by D####:

Liked the app but it would be useful to be able to input the percentage level of starting charge (or at least 80% as some rapid chargers can only deliver that amount)

R70%
by R####:

Updating my review. The perfectly ROUND range radius is what's inaccurate, because perimeter doesn't adapt to elevation changes AWAY from terminus! But basic elevation factor DOES work! You should add "flip" button for depart/arrival locations to show incline/decline differences for a particular trip so we don't have to MANUALLY redo it!

Crashes when you press get directions button on Galaxy S 5. Will review again if it's fixed.

D70%

Almost unusable.

Q70%

This thing is completely and totally useless unless you are on a completely flat road. That's because there's no Google terrain or Google tracks integration. Elevation plays almost a bigger role than speed. You will be completely stranded if you rely on this anywhere outside of Kansas.

No home address memory. Gps location doesnt work alot of time. Have to close and open app to try to make it work. Could use a home location memory for starting point or some place you frequently start from.

Crashes when you turn to lanscape mode

I really like this app, which exceeded my expectations. The only (minor) addition I would like to see is it being more tablet friendly - It always runs as portrait which makes typing on my Android Keyboard awkward (as it is plugged in landscape). Oh, and I wish I could find out what the circles mean - haven't figured that out yet. Kudos to the developers.

Almost unusable.

T70%

Idea is good. Few things would make using the app more fluent: saved favourite locations and AC/heating mode that would reduce the range even more. On nexus7 cannot use GPS buttons, they are very small and won't react at all.

P70%

Thought I'd just be getting radius of my locale but this far exceeds my expectations. Only gripe if it matters is it would be nice if you could have a home point in memory. Well done devs five stars

Excellent tool. I'll do a bit of testing and see how it stacks up with my Leaf. Would it be possible to add temperature as an input as that can effect things lots on extreme days. Thanks!
