With significant coastline on the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Great Lakes, the United States of America has hundreds of lighthouses that have faithfully served mariners through the years. Using photographs, information, and insights gathered while visiting the country’s 800+ lighthouses, Kraig Anderson has developed LighthouseFriends.com to help others learn about lighthouses and plan their own visits to these historic structures. This app is tailored to present this content on your mobile device with the following useful features:
• Have historical information READ OUT LOUD while you drive to a lighthouse
• View MAPS showing the location of lighthouses in each state
• Transfer GPS coordinates to a navigation app to get DIRECTIONS to a lighthouse
• RECORD the date of your visit to each lighthouse along with any personal notes
• TRACK the number of lighthouses you’ve visited by state
• BACKUP your data on Google Drive and SYNC across your devices
• FILTER the lighthouses to show only those that interest you
• List and map lighthouses NEAREST to you
• DISCOVERY MODE: get automatically notified of nearby lighthouses as you wander around.
• SEARCH lighthouses by name within the app or from your home screen using "OK Google, search for ... in US Lighthouses". Example: "OK Google, search for lightship in US Lighthouses"
Intuitive icons are shown for each lighthouse to quickly help you determine if, among other things, a lighthouse is easily accessible, open for climbing, offers overnight accommodations, has appeared in a movie, and if it is reportedly haunted.
A picture and the history of each lighthouse are available without a data connection, but a data connection is needed to view maps and the full gallery of images.
A few lighthouses not built by the federal government, like those on Grand Lake St. Marys in Ohio, are included in the app, but they are not the focus of the app and should be viewed as bonuses. Coverage of lighthouses in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, is also included.

New version states you can send GPS coordinates to GPS devices. Will not send to my phone, my Smartlink, my Garmin of my Ford Sync. It appears to want to use Google Maps, but when that is opened, it shows my current location. If I close location on my phone, it will show the lighthouse area, but you still have to search in Google Maps for the specific lighthouse location. I am using an,Android.

There initially was a feature I was hoping for but they didn't have, so I emailed and got a response right away, and an update was released very soon after with that included! I was floored at how quickly and positively the developer responded. Thanks again!

This is a hands down must have for all three lighthouse livers out there who like to track em down and see them in person. The app designer is top shelf too and has answered every question and put our suggestion into the latest update. I wish I could do a 6th star because that's how awesome this app and support system are.

Great info, pictures and directions. Can't in handy in Seattle and Portland. Works be nice if it had, or if users could submit, info like operating hours of that reservations are needed for tours.

App crashes any time I try to select a lighthouse from the list on my Nexus 6. I can select it if it shows up in my notifications for a nearby lighthouse, though. App is useless until this is fixed for my device. It seems to work fine for other devices according to the reviews.

I love this app. I am a longtime lighthouse lover and this has every light in the US with details, directions, photos. I can also mark each lighthouse as visited and give a star if it's a favorite. You can also hear historical info as you drive or walk or boat to the lighthouse. Many thanks to the author of this app!!

We use the app all the time when we are out going from lighthouse to lighthouse. We've been big fans of there website and this application makes it much easier to view on our mobile devices. If you enjoy visiting lighthouses as much as we do you need to have this app on your phone or tablet.

Have not had much time to play with the app, but from what I have seen, I'm liking it. As a photographer, I love the fact that it tells you the best way to get to the lighthouse, if its open to people, or if its privately owned. I also love the history of lighthouses, and this app has tons of history information on them.
