LGS - LanGroupService

LGS is a local classroom response system for educational purposes.
It provides educational exercises, games or information to the pupils and the progess of the pupils work to the teacher.

The teacher connects his android device to a local WLAN and starts the LGS-server.
The pupils connect with their devices (client-devices) to the same WLAN and access the LGS-server by browser.
The operating system and the type of the client-device does not matter.
It can be a tablet, a smartphone or a pc which supports the chrome browser.
The usage of the Chrome browser is recommended and tested. But some other browsers may also work.
Internet access is neither for the server-device nor for the client-device necessary.

To select the pages with the educational exercises, games or information for the pupils,
the teacher connects to the LGS-server by chrome browser with a special admin account.
For this, the teacher can use the server-device or another client-device with chrome browser.
He can also use, for a example a pc, if he wants to work with a large display, a keyboard and a mouse.

Through the browser the teacher can also provide new material as pages,
view and control the pupils work and cast the pages like a presentation to a large display,
for example directly over WLan by using the chrome browser on the computer device which is connected to the beamer
or by using special hardware like solutions like a chromecast stick, a miracast stick
or sticks with another technique.
(To use a chromecast stick internet access via WLAN and further apps, e.g. tasker and autocast, need to be available on the server-device.)
Different question types like multiple choice, yes/no question, poll question and text questions (with or without an image) are already provided.
Material can be provided to the pubils as handwritten pages from for example LectureNotes (as png files), ebooks (epub or html format), html pages
or as files which can be downloaded to the client device.

Since version 20141128 memory management is integrated. Minimum memory requirement is approximately 15 MB of ram (application heap) and 10 MB of SD-Card space.
When loading pages, depending on the available ram (application heap) memory of your device, more memory is used to cache the pages to memory.
Loading of pages by clients is then much faster than loading the pages from the SD-Card of the server device.
When running out of ram (application heap) memory caching of files is automatically reduced.
The more pages you store on the SD-Card, the more SD-Card memory is used.
The more pages you load to serve for the LGS WebClients, the more ram (application heap) memory is used.

Feature summary of LGS:

-Independent of a probably slow internet connection, because it only needs a local WLAN,
-independent of the operating system and device-type, because it only needs the chrome browser for client access,
-open for different presentation devices, direct casting through chrome browser to beamer is also possible,
-open for different page types, questions, handwriten content, typed content, arbitrary files,
-teacher selects the pages for the pupils,
-teacher views responses and controls the progress of the pupils,
-teacher can even work on a pc with large display, keyboard and mouse.

System requirements:
-server-device: Android 4.x with at least two cores, better four. Tablet with 10-inch display is recommended.
Minimum memory requirement is approximately 15 MB of ram (application heap) and 10 MB of SD-Card space.
-client-device: Any device which supports chrome browser and WLAN. But other browsers may also work.
