What is Locker for?

With Locker, you can save notes securely right on your phone. You could put anything in your notes, but it is recommended that you do not store banking passwords, PINs or other sensitive passwords. Doing so may violate the terms of use of your banking and other service providers.

How secure is it?

There are 4 layers of security in Locker. First notes are stored on your phone, not in the cloud. Cloud storage solutions vary wildly in their level of security and you ultimately have to trust them to do the right thing. Secondly, the notes are encrypted with strong 256-bit AES encryption. Next, the key for decrypting the notes is stored away from the data, securely on our servers. Only the last layer of protection can reveal the key - namely your hand-written password.

What are the advantages of hand-written passwords?

A regular typed password offers only moderate security. Anyone who supplies the correct sequence of letters, numbers and symbols can gain access. One simply has to try lots of combinations to by-pass it. With a hand-written password, not only do you need to guess what the password is, you also need to be able to write it the correct way. Different people write in different styles, and Locker is able to recognise this. Locker looks at the shape of each letter, the speed of finger movement and even pressure changes as you write. So to guess a written password, not only do you have to try many combinations of letters, numbers and symbols, you also need to try different styles of writing for each one. This makes them more secure. Also they are quick, fun and easy to write.

What if I forget my password or forget how I wrote it?

The only way to unlock the app is to provide the correct password written the same way as when you registered. If you forget it or cannot reproduce it you will need to keep trying. You can try 5 times before the app will lock for 30 minutes. You can start trying again after that.

What if I lose my phone?

If your phone is lost or stolen your notes are safe from prying eyes. However unless you recently backed up your phone you will not be able to recover the notes. So make sure you backup regularly.
