About Sight Word Speak

This game includes our 512 sight words many of which are used throughout schools in the younger grades.

Sight Word Speak is the first and easiest application/game within our Sight Word Apps series and is meant for those students with limited exposure to school sight words. For each word tile the child touches this app will speak the word to them. This will help the child map the written word and the sound of the word together.

This app aims to supplement and enhance a student's early reading and recall capabilities. Once a level is completed the next level will be unlocked, however, we recommend that the same level be played at a few times to reinforce their learning.

Our 27 different sight word lists are:

Golden Goannas
Red Rabbits
Blue Bandicoots
Green Grasshoppers
Orange Owls
Indigo Iguanas
Violet Vultures
Pink Possums
Purple Pelicans
Aqua Anteaters
Lime Lizards
Lemon Lyrebirds
Silver Snakes
Bronze Butterflies
White Wallabys
Ochre Ostriches
Charcoal Cheetahs
Ruby Reindeers
Rose Ravens
Scarlet Seabirds
Garnet Geckos
Crimson Crocodiles
Teal Tortoises
Emerald Eagles
Olive Otters
Peacock Pigeons
Mint Magpies

All this app is, is a grid of sight words. You touch the word, it shakes, and then it is hidden. Once you've touched all the words on the grid, you move to the next list. It is supposed to speak, but it doesn't. And yes, I've adjusted the settings and the volume, to no avail. Luckily it was only $0.99 so I haven't wasted much money, but it's still annoying to pay for and download an app that doesn't work at all. I had hoped to use it in reading rotations as an independent activity (touch, listen, say) while I worked with other children, and I now need to make sure I am constantly present/checking-in during the activity so it isn't really helpful to me at all. The only good thing about it is that is creates a new way to expose children to these sight words, but the app loses it's novelty as it is really boring.
