Mobile Observatory - Astronomy

Just the best! Very nice app that seems to do everything. A wealth of information on all objects mapped. Well worth the price. Just a minor point. There should be a way of editing Jupiter's GRS longitude as it's now around 270 rather than the 190 used by the app. As I don't see any responses to reviews I don't think the developers read any of this though which is a shame.

I like this and it works well, I got a problem and I can't seem to get any help. It saids I don't have the necessary sensors for the live view. This is my new tablet, I had to buy newer tablet this year for something else . On my older tablet it works great no problems. I would recommend it and still do,because so far it's working like it should at least as I can see. It worked great on my older tablet. I hope to be able to write later that they made a fix for it. I really like it. I have not figured what sensors I need.

I highly prefer Redshift applications for PCs, and I highly prefer the Mobile Observatory application for my Samsung Tablet and Samsung Phone. I am able to track various Lunar Calendars on Mobile Observatory with greater ease than with the Redshift app for tablets and phones. Another benefit of Mobile Observatory is that you can save multiple locations on the earth for viewing. The Redshift app for tablets and phones lets you save 1 location, only. I do not know the limit of locations on Mobile Observatory. I currently have 23 locations saved on Mobile Observatory. The locations can be saved to your device's internal memory. If I sought to improve Mobile Observatory, I would expand the time to include 500 years in the past (1500 AD) to 500 years in the Future (2500 AD). Currently, Mobile Observatory is limited to 1900 AD to 2100 AD. The Redshift app for tablets and phones is limited to 1600 AD to 2400 AD. Despite this 1 negative criticism, I choose the Mobile Observatory app as my favorite app for tablets and phones, and I say it well deserves 5 stars. - Timothy Helland (Seattle, USA)

When I click on Liveview it tells me that my phone doesn't have the needed sensors to use Liveview. Bf and I have the same model Galaxy Express Prime and it used to work on his phone and now it doesn't. We have tried other star maps in the past and seem not to have a problem using those maps. I paid for this one because I wanted the best, and this one looked like the best. Is there a fix for this issue so that we can use Liveview? I don't want to uninstall it because it looks amazing... Thanks. Still... no one will get in touch with me over this issue months later. There was nothing that said it would not work on Galaxy Express Prime. We wanted the Liveview most of all. Please explain? Please?

Great app for a casual observer such as myself. The live view is great for the times that I forget a star or constellation's name. Time travel lets you see what's coming up, when and where to look, comet names and brightness and lots more interesting stuff for binocular or more serious telescope astronomy. Love it!

I have been interested in Space for many years. This app is fantastic for finding out whats going on in the heavens. One minor issue is that being in the southern hemisphere Live Sky has the poles reversed. I can fix it but not 100% sure as to what the fix is.

It's fun, informative, and seems to work well on my Nexus 5. At first liveview was out of alignment, but since a few launches/reset phone it seems to have solved itself. (over the last 2 weeks)

Best astronomy app I've used! Well worth the money! It's my go to planisphere when I'm out scoping. The dark red theme helps big time! Wish I had more widget control, don't know if that's even possible. Other than that it's fantastic

My favorite app. It does almost everything I want it to. It took me a while to get used to all the features, but it is very worth while to spend the time to learn. Much more cPorte and useful than any other app I have tried.

I've been looking for an app that has a lot of info and a large database. I've been using skyportal but the overlay for dso is broken. I came upon this app and for what it offers the price is totally worth it! Massive databases with a beautiful sky view map that shows everything is incredible detail. The live view is perfect and is the best working I have seen from any app. The sensors are very accurate. You can save a custom list of favorites and just so many features. One of the best parts is the telrad circles which I have at .5, 1 and 2 degrees which helps to figure out fov and which eyepiece I should use for max magnification and get an overall quick visual of what I should see with any of my eyepiece. This is the most impressive astronomy app I have come across. Fits my every need. Have on multiple platform for optimal use!! If you are looking for an app to help you either plot out what to look at or figure out detailed information on any object. No need for a laptop or pc. Very sophisticated user friendly ui. 5 stars all day every day. Just get it!! then all the other features I didn't talk about will make you just that much happier!! Clear skies.

The live view doesn't work? You kindly took my money. Now kindly reply to, not only my question, but every other paying customer. What happened to "the customers always right". Thank you

It's possible that there are better apps out there now, but I bought this almost 5 years ago. Live View didn't work as well on this app as another, when I was shopping around a year ago, but the other app was childish.

This app just gets better all the time. This is not only the best astronomy app for Android, it is one of the best apps of any kind on Android or any other platform. The developer has made huge improvements over time and continues to make them. I have come to depend heavily on this app. Thank you for developing this app!

Vast variety of sub applications. However, I am not convinced that my live view really works and even though it accepts my co-ordinates in the Southern hemisphere and the time of day displays the correct time, it insists on telling me the Sun is up at night. :-(

Ugly App. Poorly designed and poorly considered. Creep in live view makes it unusable. "Night Mode" makes everything brighter!

I'm speechless against detailed coverage, stability, clever design and user friendliness of the application. It's intellectual value "double times triples" the cost to the user. The best one I came accross, so far. Great job Wolfgang Zima.

Information about upcoming events like eclipses, conjunctions and so on. Huge database of celestial bodies. Real images and lots of knowledge based sections within the layout. Keeps you updated all the time about sky.... Amazing app in such detail.

I'm an amateur astronomer with professional training in astrophysics. I love Mobile Observatory and show it to friends and coworkers all the time. It's reliable and easy to use. I have recommended it to folks since shortly after I began using it.

As an amateur astronomer with a 10" classic dobson this app is a godsend. Let's you know where and when to look in the night sky. Once you get it set up and used to using it you will not regret this purchase. Can also import times and dates to your calendar so you never miss anything.

This astro app is a wonderful mine of info! And updates are added frequently too. But as an Antipodean I would like to see something about the Magellanic Clouds as our nearest neighbouring galaxies.

Wow. Perfect! This was worth every penny. It is comprehensive and easy to use with a superb interface and a ton of useful information. The amount of info in this app is stunning. I do wish it had a Lunar map.

I am no astronomer, just a nature-lover who is happiest when exploring/ learning something new. I always learn something new with this app!

Excellent hand held. I have used it as a substitute for my full Starry Night Pro on occasion. Clearly it lacks features I need for full observing nights such as field-of-view mimicking for my Dobsonian eyepieces, but it is excellent for less formal settings.

This is the absolute best night sky/star guide/observing/astronomy app ever made. I've been through so many different apps until I found this one. It went way above and far beyond the call and expectations! It has so much information and so many great features! Just try it out and I guranteed you'll love it!!

This app is so much better than sky portal and it takes some playing with to get used and understand some of the features but it has helped me find more objects with my telescopes than any other app, worth every penny

About the best on Android so far. Using it regularly. Almost as good a skymap as my old favorite Pocket stars from the pocket pc. Love the planet moons and tonight's best features

Tons of information that doesn't overwhelm even raw beginners, it's comfortably exposed me to so much. I'm learning every time I play with this app!

It's great, I use this app to do research and preparations for when I photograph DSOs and such. Both to help me keep track och moon phases, when it's dark enough and just getting me pointed in the general direction of my target.

I have been using mobile observatory for a few years now. This app is by far the best app I have. Worth every penny. If you are into star gazing, give it a try. I have never had a problem with the app on multiple different Android devices. Just plane assume.

I like the current pictures you get of the sun and the location of earth in it's rotation. The calendar of events. The explanations of terms, it's a complete app

Man, where do you even start. All the other "sky" apps should just quit. I doubt they will ever be on this level

Already got my money's worth just playing with it. Going to mount the phone on the Universal Astronomics bino mount that Lawrence made for me so I can star walk...nice..thanks for this app.

Still stumbling around this app trying to find my way. I must say it is very complete and complex.

Have only installed it and I am using my location settings for Australia. Information about the sun and Spring relates to the Northern Hemisphere. First impression is that there is a lot of useful information; however some of which is irrelevant to my position.

Six years in and I install this whenever I get a new phone. Detailed and useful. Like Google SkyMap on steroids. Lots of features to discover. The ability to add events to your Google calendar is a great feature. Beautiful!

Great fun and much better than several other apps I looked at. Live view, holding phone over your head to find planets and stars is terrific.
