ClockworkMod Tether (no root) for Android
Works 100% on Linux with my crappy Huawei phone. Couldn't get it to work with Windows 7, but didn't try very hard. Never ran into any problems surfing the web, and was even able to d/l a few demos via uTorrent. Worth every penny I paid for the app. Heck, I would have gladly paid $20 or more for it.
Works with metro PCS to allow LTE data tethering.... Signed up, blew my 8gb limit on the $60 plan intentionally in a couple hours, and this allowed a test of over 20gb to be downloaded without issue. I have found no wifi tether to work yet, but am researching Android modifications to allow this, and if successful will be posted to XDA for use by everyone, but no promises as I cannot root my phone due to work restrictions on my VPN and am betting it is not possible without SU
Works great to tether to pc and work around data usage limits, but... every so often i find 'adb.exe' has just ceased working which means i lose connection from my phone to my pc therefore I also lose the tether. To work around this i have to hard restart my pc as adb.exe will not close so the pc cannot shut down on its own, any ideas?
I loved this app on my stylo and used it a lot with no big problems... Got a new phone (zte max pro) and won't work now.. Installed the drivers and everything and still I get nothing which sucks Cuz I paid for the full version and now can't use it.. If i can get it working deff give it 5 stars
It's a pretty good tether app. I use it all the time. It allows me to get the full data speed out of my T mobile plan. It has one issue though, the app crashes upon opening google chrome on PC, so if you're gonna use that, you may expect it to stutter for a sec while it reopens tether on the phone.
I installed the desktop client. When I run it in a terminal I get status mesages, particularly one that says "Tether has connected". My laptop's network status indicator shows that there is a network connection, "T0 LTE", but I cannot get anything to work in a web browser.
I'm buying the full version now!.. I have "real" unlimited 4G data and 8Gbs of tether, this works great when I go over my 8Gbs. I use it on my Windows 10 and Windows 7 machines. 100% works everytime...... EDITED REVIEW: Bought the app and now it doesn't work. Done everything on a technical level to get it to work and nothing. 1 STAR NOW
This is purely amazing. I have free WiFi included with my rent and was stressing about how I'm going to keep internet with my PC that does not have a WiFi adapter and uses an Ethernet only. Well, problem solved with this app! I just connect to the free WiFi via mobile phone and tether the connection to my PC. Love it! And it also saves me 50 bucks a month :)
Taking away another star. Every day this app annoys me more and more. I'd like to able to use my phone while it's tethered! Need to be able to get rid of the annoying screen. I swipe away, it comes back. I try and open another app, it pops up. I bought the app; I shouldn't have this annoyance! I disabled notifications but that does nothing. Once up and running it's great! Don't have to keep resetting like others and no ads.
Worked great with my windows PC when I first used it. After I was done I disconnected it, and since then I have not been able to get it to work no matter how many times I reconnect. No settings were changed at first. I disabled firewall and anti-virus per their recommendation, but that made no difference.
Easy, and works regardless of your phone providers hotspot plan. My provider wants me to pay ten extra dollars a month to tether my phone, I do it for free with this app. May also want to look at pda net or foxfi for alternate tethering options
It continuously redirects me to the tethering app on my phone when I try using my phone for other stuff. I've shut off the tether & closed the app and it still opened it and redirected me. I had one situation I still don't understand: I dragged it to uninstall and it still managed to redirect me, and it was on my phone still somehow???
I tried it on Windows 10 but it wouldn't work. I downgraded to 7 now it seems to work. Not sure how others got it to work on 10. I'm thinking about buying it but ppl complain there is no tech support with problems even after paying. I'll have to think about it. It needs to work on windows 10 too. Fix it!
Works great tethering Samsung to a custom Windows 7 laptop running a quad-core celeron. The adb issue comes up once in awhile, but usually don't see it happen unless signal quality on the phone antenna drops to nothing.
Gets stuck checking phone status. Only reason i am using it is i am using a windows xp machine i want internet on and usb tether via android doesnt work. This app gets stuck about 75% of the time "checking phone status" all drivers installed correctly, reboots on pc and phone make no difference, firewall is configired correctly. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt and tbh not worth paying for full version if im gonna have same issue. Can provide logs if necessary.
Worked the first few times and now it just spams the log with Checking phone status... To make it worse, this issue only started AFTER I bought the whole version making me think this whole thing is an elaborate scam. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! PS: would noy be surprised if it had malware or a RAT.
Could not get it working on ubuntu 16.04, issue with shared libraries. It does run on Windows 7 but my very small wireless carrier was still able to detect me tethering. And I did not even buy the phone from them.
U guys never cease to amaze me! This was the easiest and smoothest app I've had to configure to communicate from phone to pc or visversa! U guys made it so that even those of us that don't know electronics at all could get this app working! Thank u for all ur work and dedication to android development! Keep up the good work guys!!
Does exactly what it says on the tin. I couldn't get it to work before launching an ADB shell & running the 'adb devices' command. Once I'd done that and accepted the connection from the computer on the phone, all worked like a charm. Well worth the investment, thank you Koush.
Absolutely the best tethering app in existance. No joke and I am not one to just throw around compliments. I've tried them all and all the others fall short or flat out lie about their functionality. Ive never had anything but complete satisfaction from this app.
Exactly what I was looking for. Get this: Using galaxy Note 3 from Verizon that has been converted to T-Mobile. Verizon installed tether does not work. Tried many others, none worked. Installed ClockWorkMod Tether & it works perfectly, fast too! Thank you!
Edit: So, I'm changing my review to a 1. I have gotten a new phone, Galaxy S8+, and since then the tether app has been a hit or miss on working. I have the most current drivers installed and the tether app itself is up to date. I have to mess with it for several minutes to just get it to work and then it randomly stops working. The app has consistently crashed since I downloaded it and it's even worse now. When it chooses to work it's a great program. The problem is just that it only works about 40% of the time now. With this kind of unreliability I think I'm going to have to eat the money I paid for this and find another way to tether my phone.
Fought with intermittent/slow usb connection for hours. This app fixed issues as soon as I figured out how to enable developer mode and usb debugging. Now even faster than my home wired internet! Thanks!
Stopped working. PC says "connected to phone," but phone says to start tether app on computer. No internet. Tried contacting dev -- no response. Can't see purchasing full version if trial isn't reliable and dev won't respond.
Great app! If you have issues connecting and have Avast disable the firewall it has and enable Windows Firewall. A feature I'd like to request is an option to suck up all the bandwidth the app could get, even if it makes the phone's available bandwidth low or unstable.
doesn't work with Ubuntu 16.04 and Google Pixel phone. Tether> sudo ./linux/run.sh /home/dshwang/thirdparty/Tether Starting Tether... adb server is out of date. killing... * daemon started successfully * Opening tun device. Opening tun device: /dev/net/tun Opening tun device: null unable to open tun/tap device. [TypeError: os.setupTun is not a function]
Works as advertised: tethering without root. Setup in 10-15 minutes, but only because of Google Pixel file transfer problems. Worth a 5 star for letting me use my computer right after moving when the router is too far and I have no Wifi card. Thanks!
It does connect my phone too my computer via USB for file sharing, which I can do with bluetooth but this is easier a bit. Although I just can't get it to connect to the internet. I've turned off the firewall and antivirus, installed all driver's. Still nothing, I'm wondering if my carrier just blocks it. I've gotten to work on another phone before easily, with the same carrier and same computer, so I don't think it's that. I just think it's this crappy ZTE Atrium. These things can't do anything... Almost one the only phones left that aren't able to be permanently rooted (only temp until the phone is rebooted) Thanks though it is a great app I'm pretty sure I could get it working on a different phone..
Edit this review as this worked great and thenI Paul is for it. But it immediately stopped working fot no reason. I emailed the author and got no response at all. Sorry but at this point I would have to say don't buy the pro version
This app worked great for the Trial. Now it's useless. WAS AVERAGING 1MB Sec now it's like 100kb. If it doesn't fix itself soon I'm going to try and get a refund. Bandwidth was great. Now it is being throttled. Now it's completely stopped working. Can I please be refunded. It doesn't work anymore! Ok I think I was infected. My PC's fault... I'll edit once I confirm
Had it for less than a day. Worked fine at first but now it says it's connected but no internet. Constantly stuck on "checking phone status". Haven't changed a thing on my phone or computer since the first use.
Great when you need internet. It's not an amazing connection, but it let me open steam when my home internet was out. If it gets hung up on "checking phone status", that means firewall is blocking.
Works as advertised on Windows 10 with my Galaxy S7 edge. Only thing that worked as Nougat broke the native tethering and sprint disabled it unless you pay. Worth the 5$ and the developer is trustworthy
Used to work flawlessly. Now i am having constant issues with it not connecting or recognizing. And now i just feel cheated. The trial went flawlessly then days or weeks after it ends the connection refuses to be made no matter what I do.
Easy. Update: upgraded to an htc 10 with 7.0 and does not work. I am using win 10 on my computer. The error i see is adb out of date. Will put back to 5 star if this is resolved
Great app. It gives you unlimited tethering from your phone. There is only one problem it's always working. It does not matter if you stop the app by forcing it, it always restarted itself. It does not seem to drain the battery to much
Works very well on my Raspberry Pi 2 running Raspbian jessie/armv7l. The only thing I had to fix was to remove the ADB (ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386) binary in 'Tether/linux' and replace it by a symbolic link to the ADB executable that works on my ARM7l architecture-based machine. @koush: May I suggest to improve 'Tether/linux/run.sh', i.e. check if ADB is installed and found in the user's $PATH and if not so, suggest to install it (sudo apt -y install android-tools-adb) also hinting to adjust the $PATH variable if necessary (export PATH="...:/usr/bin:..."). Finally replace "../linux/adb start-server" in 'Tether/linux/run.sh' [currently line #38] just by "adb start-server". Keep up your excellent work - thank you!
Always dropping and no matter what I do every site says my connection is not secure and refuses to connect. If I can't use the internet then it makes this app useless. Even with a VPN on my phone and then trying one on my PC it still refuses to work. Used this app in the past and it worked flawlessly now that I buy it I can't do anything. Waste of money...
Worked well at first then l start getting the same issue I see reported in many other reviews. Unfortunately tether has stopped working and then reconnect then stop etc. I wonder if it is supposed to be asking me to buy the full program. I'm afraid to do that though because it is not working anymore.

This is quite simple and works 100% of the time. If you're reading this then get the pro version. Lemme tell you why. It does exactly as it says and they are generous enough to give a 14 day trial. I highly suggest enjoying that two weeks to see if it works for you. When I discovered this I dropped my isp and simply got an unlimited data cellular service. How is it not just 5 stars
