Helium - App Sync and Backup for Android
No longer works for me. When attempting to back up an app (either just the data or the full app. I get a screen titled "Full Backup" that asks me to specify a password for the backup. When I tap the text field, it slowly enters five return characters automatically before letting me enter text. Clicking the continue button doesn't do anything. On the computer end, it downloads a zip file with a single 15 byte json file inside, which specifies {"packages":[]}

I absolutely love the cloud backup and restore with premium however I do have some recommendations (1) Doesnt backup apps samsung bundles part of the Rom such as whatsapp.(2) I really wish there is a way to backup account & settings. (3) Also i cannot restore or backup to & from SD directly. (4) ability to save helium app groups to cloud (I flash my device frequently & I don't want to reconfigure app groups everytime). I thank the developer as I'm closer to stress free android backup without root
First tried copying backed up "carbon" folder from PC to phone storage but apparently they isn't supported, then used the "helium server" option to restore .ab files 1 by 1 and that doesn't work either "invalid backup file". I'm not computer illiterate and this app claims to be a easy and workable solution for backing up apps and data without root on Android devices and it just doesn't work.
When it use to work, it was great. The Chrome extension no longer works. The Android app would have a nag/prompt on every load saying that it doesn't always work with root. Now it won't even detect root on my device! I have to run the app on my computer to enable backups, but it no longer runs from Chrome!
Great app , but now that I upgraded my rom to android 5.01 Lollipop Helium won't allow me to restore from external card. Or backup to it either. How do I grant helium access to it, like other apps do?
Been using this app for years. Every time I get a new phone it's a mystery how well transferring everything from the old one to the new one will work. And whether it works or not, it's going to be a pain. This app lets me bypass almost all of that. It can be a little clunky and non-intuitive to use, but it gets the job done.
Once it has connected and the app functions on your phone, it works! I don't know why but I also had a lot of trouble getting it to that part but I worked! I checked a few games by playing the game before the save data, and then doing the sync. And yes it was able to get the game right back where I was on a different phone! This is awesome!!
I have followed all the steps - download chrome extension, enable USB Debug, enable PTP. The app keeps telling me I need to enable PTP mode, so I check YET AGAIN and it is enabled. Never get past that screen, and it never connects to the PC. I have wasted an hour trying to get past this, and I'm done. Oh and BTW I paid for the premium version before using it, which was a mistake.
Are you kidding me, I made three different versions on an external micro SD card. Lots of pictures and data lost forever. Going to ask google to take a look at this app. Not calling it malware, just poorly executed.
I don't get this app. How should the restore from internal storage work after I do factory reset?? I have backed up my phone onto internal storage. Then I copied the folder carbon with subfolders named after those app to my pc. After phone factory reset I put the folder back onto phone's memory and want to restore that. But the app does not see it! When I try to do a new backup it puts it into this folder! Backups I manually put there are not visible. This should be clearly described how it is meant to work.
After purchasing the premium, multiple installs on phone, PC, and adb drivers I was unable to get this to work at all on my rooted GS5. I wasted way too many hours to no avail. Fortunately, I was able to at least get my 5 bucks back.
1. Superuser rights was granted, but app still unable to check does phone has root. Instantly shows "Checking Superuser..." 2. Requires to install PC version to connect, event backup is stored locally and on Dropbox. Otherwise it just exits. 3. Doesn't detect MTP mode, even it was set, so eventually unable to connect to PC. As a result unable to restore backup
My mobile is xiomi MI 3S prime 32GB. This app is always showing enabe PTP mode even if I have enabled it. Because of this notification I cant go into this app so I have two options either to enable PTP or exit. I have installed helium pc version and even ADB Driver from helium site according to their suggestion but still its not connecting and showing that damn pop up enable PTP. All my mb and time wasted. I have never commented in Google play before but this was so irritating that I have to.
Great for all around backup/restore. What I mainly needed was something to transfer game saves between devices without cloud save or root, and it worked amazingly for it. Only issue it it takes quite a while to backup and restore, even if it's from storage and not cloud
NO LONGER WORKS on my Note 4 on Win 10. Acts like it's backing up, creates backup file and gets to 1GB size, then stalls with no error msg. File can't be opened. DEV DOES NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS. Worked great for about a year. Will look for another backup option.
It asks me to enable PTP mode which I do but it never really recongnise that I have enabled it and keeps me on the same screen. Maybe the problem is with the PC/Chrome Version where I have installed the drivers and restarted the PC a couple of types but nothing is really working. What a waste of time.
When I try to backup it tells me to create a backup password.... So I created a black password as it said. Still the same message pops up.... Super annoying. It won't work if anyone can help I'll gladly take the help.
4.4.2 trasfer to 7.0 successful with external sd manually. 1./do backup with internal sd /2.open your file manager, copy the folder "carbon" to external sd /3.move sd to new mobile. /4.open Helium /5. choose restore from external sd,done. ※ In case you fail to choose PTP/MTP mode , you need to connect the old mobile to PC to activate Helium first. Once you done , disconnect it and connect new mobile , then you can process the remain work. Enjoy it !
YOU NEED PREMIUM FOR RESTORE! And it still doesn't work. This app didn't do the backup or the restore successfully. When someone is trying to do a backup they want their saved data not an .apk restore. Im just glad I found out about this before my refund for premium ran out.
Hello clockworkmod, awesome app, been using it for years. I have a problem using this app on my xperia z5 premium android N. I am unable to backup majority of the games i use. I get the error "unable to backup, log file has been sent to cwm" while backing up. Please fix this
Only successfully backs up about half the apps on my phone. If any of the others are selected, the whole job will randomly fail, making it a matter of trial and error to get anything backed up at all
I backed up my phone but when I got my new android with 6.0 the back up will not recognize my desktop version to activate. I have all of my backups synced in my Cloud account and cannot reinstall them on my new phone. Is carbon a dressing this issue?
Not working on Android 7.0 for backup on LG V20 using the USB enable workaround. After enabling properly I disconnect the usb and try to backup. During the "Performing Backup" dialogue Helium gives an error stating I need to reset "desktop password". However it is set as needed for Helium and it never backs up. It does this no matter which storage is selected. Been useless for months now, please fix.
Super buggy, unless you don't have any protection on your phone, and then it works great. Otherwise it's really hit or miss on whether it will work on my Nexus 6p running Android Version 7.
I followed the instructions I was able to find from other websites and the backup works. But when I plug my new device in and choose to restore it says I need premium upgrade. I have several apps in two separate languages and didn't want to format all of them as extensively as I did before. Help?
Demands to be connected to PC via USB even though phone is rooted. Most applications can't be backed up because "backup disallowed". No way to configure backup location. Can't backup to SD card but other backup apps can.
Useless. Got it loaded & connected tablet to PC fine. Select apps to back up and log into box, click Backup, but noting gets backed up, no files added to box account. Total waste of space, will be uninstalling.
If you use this to backup your data in preparation for a factory reset or root of your device, the backup works fine. The restore is a bit of a kludge. After the reset and reinstall of helium, the backup data is not recognized by helium. You will need to do another back of your device, overwrite the *.adb file(s) from this new backup with the previous one with all your data. I found this solution after some googling. This works, and is not that difficult, but it is the preferred method it should be mentioned in the app
I was able to perform a back up on my nexus 5 but on my mi 5s the app was stuck at 'enable ptp'. So I in the end was unable to restore my backup. From online it seems like this is quite a prevalent issue, would be great if this can be solved. If not, what's the use of an app that can backup but can't restore.
It worked the last time I changed phones, but now it fails on every attempt. I've tried sending my files to Box, Google Drive, and my PC. It hangs every time. There's no error message. I've tried removing files from the backup in case one is the cause, but that didn't help.
It helped a lot as I wanted to reset my phone without loosing game progress on games like asphalt 8 and modern combat. I backed up all my games and restored them after reset and all seemed to work without any problem.
Was able to easily transfer game saved data from my HTC M8 marshmallow to Google Pixel on nougat. Thank you! The built in app transfer in pixel failed and this app saved my progress! Bought premium as show of support.
I don't like it, the app says to download onto PC, so I do and a window opens saying, "connect your Android to a USB." I did and nothing happened. I changed it to a PTP but it still didn't work, it told me to download drivers if it isn't recognized. I did this MULTIPLE TIMES but it either did nothing or said it wasn't successfully installed. I don't like it and it needs to be fixed for Android. I will lose a year's worth of game data now.
Backs up apps and data... What does data mean? I want to backup my images as well. I was about to buy premium but I don't know if this will allow me to do what I want. Annoyed after getting this all setup!
1) Says "Helium (Free) features: Backup and restore from PC" No such option exist. 2) Say's Backup free to google drive/dropbox (fee to restore) Always responds with "Backup Error" message Sad user 8(
Fantastic! Indeed the missing component of android sync. Can't speak to android 7 on pixel phones but between 5 and 6 and from 6 to 6 it works beautifully to save my app data that isnt stored in the cloud. Even if the app is cloud based, using this means I do not have to sign back into it. This is a must have app if you use an offline book reader like aldiko and want to keep all your ratings, reading locations, highlights, etc. I cannot recommend this enough!
This app doesn't work at all. Tried multiple frustrating attempts to restore my app and data but to no success. I now realize the paid version of the app is the only thing that works. If the developer only wanted paint users then why even bother offering a free version that doesn't even work?
What is wrong with this app?? I heard such good things that I bought it straight away, but there is a problem with it. I downloaded the program, got the desktop app, and got the app enabled without a problem. When I went to do the backup though, it tells me that my phone is encrypted, so it asks for a password, but it actually starts typing characters automatically when you open the keyboard. If you put in a password (or your phones password) and press begin backup, nothing happens. Sometimes you get to that password screen, and before you can do anything, the app throws a popup that the backup is in progress, and then comes back with an error. I have a nexus 6p with the latest version of stock android 7.0 on it. I don't know what's going on, but this program has a couple of app breaking bugs that I can't get past :(

Below issue has been resolved. I was able to connect through my home network using a web browser and perform the backup that way. I love this. It works like a charm! Restored backups of my games keep my progress as expected. I love that now I can, in theory, save app data, but I don't have an option to save to my external SD card and my internal storage is too full. I tried Dropbox, but that still puts a copy on my internal storage. I don't use Google Drive or Box, so I'm stuck effectively unable to use this app. If I can get this functionality I will rate 5 stars.
