Bike the Track - Track the Bike is a European funded project which aims to support and promote cycling as a healthy, sustainable, fun and easy means of transportation by motivating citizens to cycle more. The concept encourages and rewards cyclists' healthy and eco-friendly behavior: the more time you spend on your bike, the better your chances of being rewarded by winning a prize! With a tag on your bike, which uses radio frequency identification (RFID), participants are registered electronically every time their bicycle passes a checkpoint, and each registration counts as a ticket in a virtual lottery.
The concept is now extended so that everyone can take part in Bike the Track – Track the Bike by means of a smartphone. With this app you can check in at all checkpoints and thus, you do not need to have a chip on your bike in order for you to be rewarded for your effort on the bike.
With the app you can earn extra tickets and add to your score by checking into physical as well as virtual checkpoints using your smartphone. Choose your city from the drop-down list and log in using your Bike the Track – Track the Bike log in information. If you do not have a log in already you can set up an account using the app.
When you have chosen your city, the app then automatically finds your current location using GSP and shows it on a map. Zoom in and out to see all checkpoints and their virtual zones in your city or near you. If you are within reach of a checkpoint you can check in and add to your score by using the check in button below the map. Notice that it is possible to check in at each checkpoint once a day.
The app also allows you to see your history of registrations. On the list you can see your most recent registrations according to date, time and location.
Using the BtrackB tab you can see an overview of your registrations within the last week, current month and present year, respectively. You will also be able to see your current ranking on a high score list.
Bike the Track – Track the Bike currently only runs the following places: Fredericia, Denmark; Espoo, Finland; Muenster, Germany; Algarve, Portugal; Venice, Italy; Ljubljana, Slovenia and Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Kofoed & Co has developed the app on behalf of Midttrafik.
