About Headset Button Controller

Turn the button on a wired headset into a remote control for your music player - and much more!

Headset Button Controller is very configurable, allowing you to play music, change tracks, adjust volume, answer phone calls, start Voice Command and many other things, just by clicking the button on your headset.

Headset Button Controller is shipped with a powerful default configuration, but you can change almost every action performed. Once you have configured it with your preferences, it runs in the background using almost no CPU. It has been tested with a wide variety of different Android devices and music apps and works with both single-button headsets, and Android-specific 3-button headsets.

Default configuration for single-button headsets (center button for 3-button headsets):
* Single press: play / pause (+ answer call / end call)
* Double press: next track (+ decline call / mute microphone)
* Triple press: previous track
* Quadruple press: previous track (2x)
* Long press: Volume control [2]
* Press and hold: Fast forward [3]
* Double press and hold: Rewind [3]
* Triple press and hold: disabled

All of the above options are configurable to any of the following:
* Stop
* Play / pause
* Next track
* Previous track
* Previous track (2x)
* Mute / unmute
* Voice command
* Voice search
* Redial last number
* Say current time (Text-To-Speech required)
* Launch app
* Launch shortcut
* Tasker task [1]
* Switch profile

Additionally the long press options are configurable to any of the following:
* Volume control [2]
* Rewind [3]
* Fast forward [3]

[1] Requires the app 'Tasker'
[2] While the button is held down, the volume is initially reset to the minimum limit (see below) and then raised until the button is released
[3] Not every music player app supports rewind / fast forward

With a 3-button headset, volume control is also configurable with the left and right headset buttons.

Music app selection
Headset Button Controller controls the currently running music app. You are also able to explicitly specify which installed music app you want to control.

Volume control features
Headset Button Controller remembers the music volume when the headphone is unplugged and can restore it when the headphone is plugged in again.
* Min volume limit: Start volume level of the 'volume control' command
* Max volume limit: Ensures that the headset music volume never exceeds this limit

Call features
You are also able to control calls with the headset button:
* answer call / end call on single press (configurable)
* decline call / mute microphone on double press (configurable)
* adjust volume during a call (see volume control)
* announce caller name (Text-To-Speech required)
You can also configure Headset Button Controller to automatically answer an incoming call after a configurable delay.

Headset plug in / out
You can configure an action to be performed when the headset gets plugged in / out.

Profiles
You can create different 'configuration profiles' which you can switch between. Add a widget or a shortcut to your home screen to easily change your profile. It is also possible to switch profile from the 'Tasker' or 'Locale' app (Locale plug-in). All settings can be backed up on SD card.

Great app but the long clicks always start google now voice control instead of telling me the time or what ever I want them ro do. I guess as mentioned by others aswell the problem lies within the android system, however would be great if you could fix that or communicate those issues to google and work with thwm together to find a solution. Everything else works great.

L70%
by L####:

Excellent features & configuration options. Can switch off annoying beeps & the various volume up/down/control options work well. However since my phone upgraded to Marshmallow it has been unreliable (and yes I have disabled optimization for the app & it runs on foreground). I also wish it allowed config for five clicks...

N70%
by N####:

Unfortunately this appears to be due to Google forcing the single long hold of a headset button to automatically redirect to Google ask or speak or whatever. Google and android need to provide a fix for this. Unlikely that Dev will be able to create a fix, the problem lies with android and Google. Really annoyed as paid for this and basically doesn't do what I want it to do

This app is awesome and I love it. I give 5 stars right away. Only one request! Please put an option to hide the app icon from notification bar. It's kinda annoying for me. Thank you

F70%
by F####:

Does everything I'd expect plus more, I just wish there were a way to remove the apps' icon from the notification area. -edit- found that under advanced options that I could turn off running as a foreground application which got rid of the icon in the task bar.

by N####:

What the topic says. That's all I wanted, and this app does it.

A70%
by A####:

The play/pause and forward/back button clicks work, but the four clicks for volume control do not. 5 stars if you can get volume control working.

N70%
by N####:

I've been looking a while for an app that allows me to control volume and other options on my AKG k451 headphones and this app is by far the best. Still can only use one button from the 3, but still better than nothing. ps. @yan naing aung, you can disable the icon by going to advanced > advanced settings > run in foreground :)

I purchased the premium version last year, but I had to replace the phone it was purchased on. Now I get prompted to install the full version, because "the trial has expired" - when I go to install, the play store recognizes that I've already purchased it, but the prompts continue to show. How can this be remedied?

Nice idea, but didn't work in a timely fashion anymore.

This app works on my Samsung about 50% of the time. It's maddening.

H70%
by H####:

Not worth the full amout of money on the account of the long click not working, other than that, it works as it says.

N70%
by N####:

This worked like a charm on my Samsung GS4 but doesn't do anything on my new LG G5 with Marshmallow.

N70%
by N####:

Works on my S5. My headphone jack is busted and likes to randomly act as if I'm pushing some non-existent pause/volume buttons. This works to disable that.

N70%
by N####:

Before an update I could control next and previous song by just pressing the buttons on my headphones 1time. Now the volume is controlled by the buttons. DON'T NEED VOLUME CONTROL X 2. This app doesn't restore the original setup.

Has been great but with my new Oneplus 3t the radio app says "this location cannot be played" can this be fixed?

Excellent features & configuration options. Can switch off annoying beeps & the various volume up/down/control options work well. However since my phone upgraded to Marshmallow it has been highly unreliable (and yes I have disabled optimization for the app & it runs on foreground). Sadly this much loved app is no longer that useful :-(

I even noticed that when I clicked, the music player started after waking, when the native android app would normally fail to start. Bought today, perfect for using iPhone headset with android.

I turned to this app when I got tired of the unreliability and slow responses of the somewhat similar Degauss app. I've had a much better experience with this one so far, and can recommend without hesitation.

D70%
by D####:

Works with a wired headset. Does not seem to do anything when a bluetooth headset is connected. The button of the bluetooth headset however seems to work by default similar to the wired one, by starting and pausing/resuming the music player. So it seems to be the app that just ignores connected bluetooth devices.

N70%
by N####:

Worked great on my old S3 but does not work reliably on the last 2 HTC phones I've had. Android acts on the button presses before HBC can so it usually doesn't function.

V70%
by V####:

While the function this app performs is more deserving of a 5, the deficiencies it has keeps me from giving more than a 3. Specifically, there is a rather significant drain on the battery which is caused by the app not allowing the phone CPU to go offline when using the related setting. This makes sense while the app is active (that is, when I have headphones plugged in) but it seems that this setting applies all of the time. Unfortunately, without use of this setting, my phone does not pick up on clicks.

D70%
by D####:

This app lets you control all your music from your headset button. It also has a neat caller name feature which says the callers name into your ear.

D70%
by D####:

Am more than satisfied.... Be it music control or phone control using both my 3 button stock headphone and my single button but better sounding JBL headphones.... The app works perfect as designed for, Also not over priced. And now after changing my phone i can say it works equally better. Also it gives advantage of using any headphone with mic and buttons, especially the ones designed for iphones as we can all agree that better headphones are made more for the iphones and now i can use those on this fone

I used to love this app, but now it's not working with the latest Sony Music App. Fix it, please.

D70%

I just switched to Android and was sad to find that my Monster NLites couldn't do anything other than play and pause my music now. Your app solved this perfectly and I am more than happy to pay for it. Thank you!

D70%
by D####:

Only issue is that it disables the music Widget on the lock screen on the LG g2

Tried on Galaxy S6. I have configured the single click to Mute/unMute. However this does not work -- the single click always ends the call. Christoph -- can you pls certify that this works or not with Samsung Galaxy S5 running Android 5.1.1?
