About Better Locale Airplane Mode

This Locale1 or Tasker plug-in changes airplane mode so that it only disables the radios that you want it to. You can disable your cell phone radio and leave Wi-Fi and bluetooth connected (even with Gingerbread) . It also allows you to just toggle airplane mode like normal if you wish.

Using a Honeycomb tablet? Want to save your battery when on Wi-Fi? Have locale turn off your unneeded radio.

Are you ever anywhere that you know there's absolutely no chance you'll have a cellular signal, but want to leave Wi-Fi or bluetooth enabled? With this Locale plug-in, you can have Locale or Tasker turn on airplane mode and choose which radios to disable.

I use Google Voice with GrooVe IP (or SIP). I disable my cellular radio and leave my Wi-Fi untouched to get rid of irritating duplicate incoming calls and dramatically reduce my battery drain.

Samsung s4 airplane mode is broken work this add on. Worked great on 4.2.1 on Note 2.

Please fix this, plugin opens and runs ok but doesn't actually activate or deactivate airplane mode when it should. Worked very well on S3 but something needs fixing for S4

When it worked out was great! Now not so much with new phone: LGG2

So essentially this app doesn't work. Other reviewers have noticed the same problem. It claims to turn off each radio separately. Even though separate check boxes exist, turning Cellular off also disables Bluetooth. So this app adds nothing that your device doesn't do already. If it worked, it would be very valuable for Tablet users who primarily use WiFi. Mine is a Samsung Galaxy tab.

An app that turns off the cell radio without touching Wi-Fi. Works perfectly for me with Tasker on a Samsung Galaxy S3. Thanks Kludgenics.

Does not provide granular control over radios. Toggles airplane mode, offers setting to control bluetooth independently but it does nothing. Bluetooth cannot be enabled in airplane mode, app cannot turn off cell radio independently. Might be a useful Locale plugin to enable airplane mode, but don't expect more than that.

Can't get Bluetooth to work in airplane mode.

Unfortunately it crashes immediately on my Galaxy Nexus. Android 4.3. Please fix!

Does NOT do what it claims on Sony Xperia S.

Turning off cell radio still disables Bluetooth on modded Galaxy Tab (TMob hw, Gingerbread via Overcome 2.0 mod).

Exactly what I needed. Works great. Nice job.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S II (running 2.3.4) and the bluetooth can't be enabled even with this application. Plus, I couldn't find the screens shown on the market, as when I click the app the only option there is to enable/diable the flight mode and phone/wi-fi/bt, but not with all the different settings shown on the screenshots.

Only plugin for locale like it. Should come standard with locale. Just needs to add GPS and this is the best plugin.

N70%
by N####:

Does exactly what its supposed to do: turn off the cell radio without turning off WiFi or Bluetooth. Could be improved by adding support for the NFC radio.

N70%
by N####:

Gingerbread users need this since Google removed the ability to turn off the cell phone radio with Tasker. Dev is very responsive. Worth every penny.

T70%
by T####:

It is the only way to turn edit airplane mode settings with Locale and it's cheaper than a soda.

N70%

does what it says. works well with locale. Cons: doesn't do a lot for the money. Droid X

i had the same use-case as the author -- grooveip, set to ring on wireless only (not 3g/4g connections). so when i was at home and connected to the wlan, calls would double-ring, since google voice forwards my calls both to the google chat line (groove ip over wlan), and to the cell phone via cell network. previously i solved this problem with the google voice tasker/locale plugin, which allows you to set on your google voice account which of your phones to ring as an action within tasker/locale. however, that plugin is no longer supported (took it off the market without warning), it cost $4 vs $1 for this plugin, and lastly, this plugin is more to-the-point. so i have two simple tasker profiles: the first is when i am connected to a wlan, use this plugin to set the special airplane mode (leaving wireless on). so at home i no longer receive the double google voice ring, which means i no longer mistakenly answer calls or make calls on the cell network (much more expensive, the whole reason for using grooveip in the first place). the second profile is to simply disable airplane mode (go back on cell network) when i am not on a wlan. - shiraz (carolina's husband)
