About Bluetooth Launch

Allows you to pick an activity to launch on when you use the Bluetooth button on most headsets.

This is no frills (some even call it ugly) but still works nicely. (Cut me some slack, I wrote it in 2 days, using standard UI elements from FroYo. That said, I see no reason to update it unless I'm really fixing something.)

Simply select the application to see a list of activities. Then pick the activity you want launched. For example:
Google Search
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.VoiceSearchActivity

That's it. Connect your headset, hit the button and you're good to go.

Notes:
Not all headsets work correctly. Some have odd behavior and do not follow the standard. I own only a couple of headsets and test to those.
Not all activities work correctly either. It is simply not possible for me to download and test every activity for every app. You are responsible for figuring out what works and what doesn't.

Can't find the activity I need to access, after much squinting, so I don't think this works for me. Extremely difficult to find/select an app in the list because the font is microscopic and the buttons overlap. When I do try the bt button, I get a message that this app crashed, though it then opens either the activity I was trying to reach, or the activity selection screen of this app. Not for me.

HTC Evo 4G LTE (Sprint), BlueAnt Q2, works with Google Search as well as Vlingo (com.vlingo.client.car.CarActivity puts you in SafeReader). The headset complains that my phone doesn't support phone commands, but then it works anyway... heh. Definitely a rough-and-ready app but it does what it says on the label. Thanks!

N70%
by N####:

Interface is useless. The list I so small I can't even tap the right items. Icons overlap the app names so you can't read them. I generally emphasize function over form, but there's a point where all functionality is lost when you can't even use the horrible interface. Design things to be used by people other than yourself, on your specific device or don't put it on the play store.

I use it to launch Google now voice recognition instead of the voice dialler and it works fine, especially since Google recently updated Now to actually use a Bluetooth headset microphone properly. Why android doesn't do this itself is a mystery. The UI is a bit "no frills", but that's no problem since it only needs setting up once then you don't need the UI again. Works even when the phone is locked. Only flaw is that the screen stays on after using it while the phone is locked.

W70%
by W####:

Love it... VERY basic but does the job. I found that in order to call someone using "Ok Google", you need to unlock the phone. However, asking OK Google stuff like "What's the weather?", etc. works flawlessly. Any ideas on how this can be avoided? It would be great if you don't have to do the reach in to make a call. Otherwise this app would deserve all 5 stars! Thanks Author!

I'm using a a Nexus 5 with the LG HBS 730 Tone+ bluetooth headset. As per his instructions it works completely fine. The only issue I saw is that it will NOT work with a screen lock enabled. At first it disabled my screen lock and when I disabled and reenabled the screen lock, pressing the call button would make an attempt , but would not launch anything. I would love for that to get fixed. Other than that issue, it works great.

using this with my Motorola s305. Being able to launch Google Now voice search from the headset (by setting it to "googlequicksearchbox.VoiceSearchActivity") is really useful. But it doesn't work consistently: sometimes, this app properly activates Google Now voice search. But other times, I just get a beep when I press the button and nothing happens. And after that, I can't activate anything for several minutes. I can't figure out why it works sometimes and not others.

Exactly what I was looking for!. I got a new car with Chevy Mylink, and each time I would press the speak button, it would default to phone dialer, which stinks. Because of that, I couldn't do anything other than dial numbers, and even then it was horrible at the task. With this app, I am now able to use Google Voice Search, which allows me to control my music, send texts, and of course dial my phone. Thank you so much, Guardian Bob!!!

Was really hoping this app would work so I could use the button on my BT headset to launch Google Now instead of the voice dialer. And it works great... once. After I press the button once to launch Google Now voice search, I can't use it to launch Google Now again until I turn the BT headset off and back on. Bummer. On stock 4.2.1 on a Nexus 4.

by Y####:

My fingers aren't big, but they're not match sticks either. The apps are too tiny to select accurately and their titles cannot be read due to the drop-down buttons covering them. Could you spend a few more hours "fixing" these design issues for modern devices? I can't find anything called "Google Search" in the list and have now accidentally set something else as my preferred app and there's no obvious 'undo' mechanism.

Y70%
by Y####:

This is a super useful app because sometimes it's useful to use an alternate application to the default voice dialer. Unfortunately after a call has completed the app sometimes stays open and keeps the lock screen disabled which can lead to some pocket button mashing or other funny behaviour. I hope this can get updated soon.

G70%
by G####:

Appears to work as advertised even after all this time (about 11 months since any update). All the more surprising, perhaps, that this is on a rooted HTC Inspire with Cyanogen 7 .... Allows me to identify the app that is triggered by a long press on a Jawbone Era.

I hate S Voice. It never gets the name of the person I want, even after repeated attempts. I wanted my Voice Search back for use with my BT headset, and this gave it to me. Just install, open, find Voice Search and select com.google.android.voicesearch.RecognitionActivity. Only bad thing is you need a magifying glass to read the text. I mean really, guys, couldn't you pick a more normal font size?

Z70%
by Z####:

Thank you so much. I've always hated the voice search. The only issue I've had is it does appear to take longer to reach voice search, and you can tell the app wakes the phone, intercepts the Bluetooth command, and launches the specified app. Perhaps a root feature to speed it up? Not a deal breaker, just a suggestion.

by Y####:

To quote Benjamin Rosas's accurate review: On a nexus 5 android 4.4 select Google Search > com.Google.android.googlequicksearchbox.VoiceSearchActivity to make your Bluetooth button launch the voice search as if you'd said 'OK Google'. The best part is that you can do this when your phone is off or in another app. This app looks terrible, especially on a high-res screen with small font, but does just what I was hoping.

G70%
by G####:

Hallelujah! This app saved my sanity! When I want hands free...I want HANDS FREE! And obviously, I'm not the only one! This app forces my phone to communicate with me through my bluetooth headset. And that includes initiating a phone call. Nothing else helped...NOTHING. My question is, 'why"? These smart phones do everything else. C'mon Android/Google, get with it. Pay this developer and make this a standard choice in settings. The only problem I have is finding my action. I had to use a magnifying glass (I'm pretty blind!) And occasionally, accidentally changing the setting. It is a dream come true app! Thanks so much! I would have paid $10, $20... for it!

Works like advertised on my Samsung Galaxy S4. The only issue I had was the font was a bit small which caused the dropdown buttons to hide the first part of the string. However, you only need to set this once so this was not a deal breaker. Thanks for the free app.

Y70%
by Y####:

I had to disable voice commands though. I have a Motorola Hint headset. This developer made this app for himself. So it does what it says. Complaining about the tiny font? If it bothers you that much, open your accessibility settings and enable the zoom (you and I both know you will open the app only once.) It does what it says. He says it isn't pretty. But guess what... It does what its made to do. He didn't make it to look pretty. He made it for functionality. So I say BRAVO! -AND its free!

Y70%
by Y####:

The text is so tiny on my C6603 that it cannot be read even with a magnifying glass. The displayed lines also appear to overlap . There appears to be no help screen either. No choice but to uninstall, which is a shame as other reviews indicate the app does just what I want!

Y70%
by Y####:

On KitKat custom ROM the default bt voice dialer was killing me. Totally useless. But only took two tries with this program to figure out what would launch the Google Now voice command function instead. Wtf Google, why is this not just a stock option?

Y70%
by Y####:

Update, installed again and it seems to work this time around. The display on the S4 is still incredibly small and very difficult to read, but I was able to get to the settings I needed. It is now working perfectly. If the interface was easier to read, I would give it 5 stars. Old review; I have tried this a couple times on my Samsung Galaxy S4 using the "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.VoiceSear chActivity". All I get is a black screen then the notice that the app has stopped. I have a Bose Bluetooth headset.

Y70%
by Y####:

Well, I'd like to say it works, but while it loads, I get the same display problem that others mentioned with tiny text and overlapping icons. Your description says you aren't interested in updating unless you're fixing something; please fix this display issue? I'd really like to see this work.

S70%
by S####:

As other reviews have suggested, this does seem to be the *only* app that allows you to change your Bluetooth 'call' button behavior. On the downside, the interface is grim - on my Nexus 5 I could barely see the text due to its tiny size, but as the app description states, it was written in 2 days. Honestly, this is not a problem - my use case is to set once and never change. My thanks to the developer!

I have been looking for a way, any way, to launch the google now voice search with my BT headset on my Nexus 4 and this app finally did it. Always tried to open voice dialer which is extremely limited. It's not pretty, but it doesn't need to be when it simply works. Thank you very much.

Y70%
by Y####:

The only app of its kind but completely useless because you can't see anything. There's a weird white squiggle blocking most of the exceptionally small text. I would appeal to the author to update this app because it is badly needed.

Y70%
by Y####:

Android has some goofy voice dialer app that is far less functional than the actual voice search. Triggering voice commands via a bluetooth device launches the inferior voice dialer app and it can't be changed in the system settings. Using this app, I was able to force voice search to be used instead. This is much better when using voice commands in my car so I can start things like navigation.

Y70%
by Y####:

I don't need reading glasses yet, but I can't read the list of apps here. No finger gestures increases the size and doesn't seem to have options to increase size either. Am I missing something?

G70%
by G####:

My headset defaults to redialing the most recent number. This lets it instantly launch the Google app, which gives me full access to all my contacts for Voice dialing, plus Voice search. As the developer says, it's not pretty, but it does exactly what it's supposed to do, and does it very, very well. For those complaining about font size, use your phone's accessibility settings to turn on zoom, if available. It would not respect font size selection on my phone, so I had to use zoom.

Love love love this idea, but unfortunately, it doesn't work with my Samsung HM1100 headset. I will have to try other headsets and update my review, accordingly. Still, the author is up-front about the fact that it might not work, and I'm not going to give a 1-star review because my hardware doesn't work with it. UPDATE: It doesn't work with the AT-BT33 stereo headset either. :(

Open app and the list is scrunched together... can't even see what the list reads. Can't select anything. Can't read anything. Wish I could post a picture here. Maybe it's my phone I don't know. I was able to find what I was looking for with a magnifying glass of all things. App does what it says but on my galaxy s5 the list was unreadable with naked eye.

Try using this app on a Nexus 7. The text is nearly microscopic and all the icons overlap. It's difficult to select anything, even with a stylus. Worse yet, this app used to do something. Meaning, certain things I selected actually functioned when I used the headset call button. Now, no matter what I select, I always get the message"voice calling not supported".

For the Bose BT2 ear peace. App text is so small it's hard to read. If you need reading glasses like me, I wish you the best of luck.

I love the idea for this app, and it's wonderful to be able to launch whatever you want. BUT It's conspicuously lacking in the ability to set the event to do nothing, at least as far as I can see. That would be the ideal scenario for me.

I Love the concept. Samsung GS 4 on KitKat 4.4.2, with the Nova Launcher. Installed BT Launch and opened it to a very teeeeeeensy font of a list of all apps and services on the phone. With a magnifying glass, I found the Google Search activity, and when clicking it offered all the APIs available. I selected "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.VoiceSearchActivity" and closed the app. After a lot of things not working, I finally got it to work after reading about how to enable Google Now via a car BT set. Now my Plantronics M70 call button, long pressed through 3 beeps then quick release wakes my phone and opens Google Now. Brilliant! Star deducted for no developer help and poor UI.

N70%

It does what it says but has a buggy interface for my phone. All the items in the parent list are super tiny. The child list has much more padding so it's readable but still tiny text

Reconfigured my bluetooth phone button to open google now. The font is like size 1 but I found the command in the list and it works. Well done.
