About Screebl - Screen On/Off Sensor

Get your Screen on! Screebl is an application that controls your screen based on orientation. Never have the screen timeout again while using your phone, and SAVE BATTERY too. It's possible with Screebl!

Screebl, the battery saver keep your screen on wunderkind, works based on a simple observation: we generally hold our phones or tablets in roughly the same positions when we're using them. Screebl uses the sensors in your mobile device to detect how you're holding it, and when your device is within a configurable range, the screen is kept on. Move out of that range, and Screebl releases the lock and the screen is allowed to go off. Using gravity, screen orientation, and other cues, your screen is kept on when it should be, and turned off when you don't need it. It's simple, but it works amazingly well!

How is Screebl a battery saver? Well, it's simple. On most phones, the screen is the single largest consumer of battery power. With Screebl running you can reduce the average amount of time that your screen is on by only keeping it on when you're ACTUALLY using your phone. The amount of savings can vary significantly by device and usage patterns, but it is not uncommon for users to see savings of 20% or more. See our web site for more details.

KNOWN ISSUES
✓ Some phones do NOT deliver sensor events when the screen is off. Examples include some HTC phones, some Sony Xperia phones, and quite a few Motorola phones. PocketLock may not work properly on these phones. See this link for more info: http://www.saltwebsites.com/2012/android-accelerometers-screen-off
✓ PocketLock sometimes causes battery drain on some devices. The effect of the PocketLock feature varies widely from one device to another. The longer that you have PocketLock monitor for removal from your pocket, the more power used. Most devices see a minor increase in power consumption when using PocketLock (4-8%).
✓ Stillness detection doesn't detect small movements on some devices. A few devices have coarse-grained sensors, and movement is not detected well, causing unwanted stillness timeouts. I am working on a fix for this that will be in an upcoming release. Most phones are fine.
✓ Screebl doesn't start when the phone is powered-on. On some HTC phones the "fastboot" capability can cause problems with Screebl starting at power-on. I've done my best to fix this, but it still is a problem on some HTC devices. Screebl must NOT be moved to SD storage.

If you are having problems after upgrading to lollipop uninstall and reinstall screebl. I had issues with nexus 5 but not Nexus 7. Was infuriated as screebl kept shutting down. All good now :-)

X70%
by X####:

I downloaded this app a few hours ago, but have no idea if it works. It shuts itself off after a few seconds. I go in and recheck the enable box, but a few seconds, it shuts off again. I've tried going into the app settings but no change. Seems like a very useful app in theory, but in practice, it's no good if it won't stay on. At all.

X70%
by X####:

This used to be one of the apps I installed first, but it hasn't had any updates since 2014 and it's age is showing. I just got a Nexus 5x running 6.0.1 and I can't keep the app running reliably. It just disables for no obvious reason. :(

X70%
by X####:

App seems great but why do I always get a range notification every time I pick up the phone? Kind of annoying. Anyone know how to turn that off?

X70%
by X####:

First, the basic logic of stillness detector is flawed. It fires off even if there are consistent touch events. It should only be active if there are no touch events for a configurable duration. Second, I have bought pro but that is only good as long as I am connected to the internet. When I am offline, it goes back to basic version.

Should offer a free trial for Pro to ensure Pocket lock works on handset. Doesn't have to be long, 24 hours maybe. Not prepared to upgrade on the off chance hand set is not compatible.

X70%
by X####:

The app doesn't automatically enable itself after restarting the phone. It's annoying that I have to enable it every time.

X70%
by X####:

Use to work well but not so much anymore. No updates for over a year. Turns itself off all the time. Boo

I70%
by I####:

Once a 5 star app now just horrible. How does this happen?. Turns itself off for no reason. Will look elsewhere for a replacement. Suggest you do as well.

H70%
by H####:

The app keeps turning off at random. This has been an issue for a couple years now, but the app appears abandoned. If it were not for these facts, this would be a great app, however it's useless as it turns off or crashes, rendering it's purpose moot. I give it 2-stars because it was good & still does work for short periods of time. [I have a Moto G LTE w/Android Lollipop 5.1]

X70%
by X####:

Used to be awesome, now it turns off whenever I use certain apps. Really disappointed. Please update.

X70%
by X####:

Fantastic app, but recently updated to Lollipop 5.0.2 and now Screebl disables itself randomly. I'll give it 5 stars and go Pro if fixed.

X70%

I really like this app but it doesn't work on one of my device xiaomi Mi 4i with 6.6.6.0 stable build, hope we can get fix for this, thank you :)

Y70%

Keeps crashing (S3). When it works, it's very useful, but it constantly turns itself off. The installation of this app also coincides with a massive decrease in the performance of my phone; obviously I cannot prove a link.

X70%
by X####:

It was a brilliant app but it's now severely dated. Needs a face-lit (Material UI) and bug fixes to function properly with newer Android versions.

X70%
by X####:

App functions well but colors do not show up in status bar indicating position but otherwise it's working

X70%
by X####:

Used to love this app but I noticed it's the largest screen wakelock on my phone. Uninstalled to save battery and will just have to continue tapping my screen every 15 sec to stay awake.

Y70%
by Y####:

I've noticed that while using snapchat and other apps, screebl will automatically switch to off. The screen timeout then kicks in and the screen will keep turning off, until I go into screebl and check it back on. Needs to be addressed

L70%
by L####:

I tried to buy the Pro version inside the app and was charged by my Google account for the purchase, but the app never acknowledged the upgrade. I assumed the payment hadn't gone through and purchased the app from the Play store. Now I've paid twice for the app, which is not great.

Y70%
by Y####:

It turns itself off at random. I emailed to ask about it and never heard back. Uninstalling for Always On - it means I have to use the power button to turn off the screen, but at least I can count on it working, unlike this app.

S70%
by S####:

I have tried many on my Samsung Tab S but this in combination with the app Shake Screen-On (to switch the screen on again) is the only one that worked in the end. For Lollipop enable the notification in the settings of this app. Otherwise Lollipop might disable the app after a while. I didn't have this problem with Kitkat 4.4.2. In respect of power usage at my system - mine has an amoled screen and so this app is perfect. For the app itself the battery drain is lower than at the app Gravity on my system - even combined with the app Shake Screen-On and it's power usage.

Y70%
by Y####:

Doesn't do what it says it does. Doesn't keep my screen on during calls. I payed the 1.99 for the pro version and I would really like my money back.

V70%

The best app to control when your screen stays on and when it goes off. It's way better than any stock feature I've tried.

Y70%

Its of no use if it keeps turning off inadvertantly ... Developers please fix this issue and get 5 stars straight from me coz I like this app...BTW I am using lollipop os

H70%
by H####:

In Lollipop switch on notification then it should not get closed - as a Peter Stindl wrote here. Helped at least for me.

I used to love this app and even registered it. Now it keeps shutting off. Quit bragging on your new version and fix it.

Hi, used this app for years now. After installed lollipop (dirty unicorns rom) it began closing randomly. I have unisntalled all task managers and battery saving apps. But it still closes... Any ideas? Was this tested for lollipop?

I would throw my phone if not for this app. After a factory refresh, now Screebl won't lock my phone when I set it flat on my desk. Nor will it go back to sleep after I get a text (and don't pick up the phone). I think it may be fighting with Assist?? Any ideas?

Nexus 5 with Lollipop 5.1 Screebl 3.0.50 . The app stops on its own randomly without any reason, it becomes useless.

My smartphone has gone from needing multiple charges to just a single one daily. Thanks screebl

K70%

Works great most of the time, but doesn't work well when laying on your side. If you're laying on your side and the phone is vertical but upside down it will lock. Also sometimes it will turn off screen even when in range and not always the designated time, I've had it do it in the middle of typing a word. Enough to be annoying but rare enough it happens less than using stock timer. I'll keep it around, but disappointing because I see it has so much potential

Now that my phone has updated to lollipop, it won't work anymore. I've had this for years because I absolutely loved it but now it won't work at all and I have taken it out and reinstalled it and it still won't work. Fix this and I'll change my rating.

M70%
by M####:

I purchased the paid version because I liked the free version and because I wanted the pocket lock feature of the Pro version. The Pocket Lock feature worked like a charm for the first day & the next morning. Then it stopped working. I tried the usual troubleshooting steps; rechecked settings, rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled. Finally, I wrote the developer a nice email explaining the problem in reasonable detail … asking for assistance. NO RESPONSE. THIS DEVELOPER IS NON-RESPONSIVE. I wasted my money.

M70%
by M####:

The app works but drains the battery. Do not see why it needs so much processing power

M70%
by M####:

Just doesn't work right for my phone. Ya is shuts off the screen when I set it down. But it also shuts it off while I'm using it in the normal position cause it controls the screen time out too

T70%

Now and then the app disables and I have to enable again or it closes all together. If this was fixed 5 star all the way.

but now randomly closes itself since the lollipop update and is no longer running
