About Screebl - Total Screen Control

Get your Screen on! Screebl is an application that controls your screen based on orientation. It's better than SmartStay and it works on any phone, not just Samsung. Never have the screen turn off again while using your phone, and SAVE BATTERY too. It's possible with Screebl!

Screebl works based on a simple observation: we generally hold our phones or tablets in roughly the same positions when we're using them. Screebl uses the accelerometer in your mobile device to detect how you're holding your phone, and when your device is within a configurable range, the screen is kept on. Move out of that range, and Screebl releases the lock and the screen is allowed to go off. It sounds simple (and it is), but it works amazingly well!

How does Screebl save power? Well, it's simple. On most phones, the screen is the single largest consumer of battery power. With Screebl running you can reduce the average amount of time that your screen is on by only keeping it on when you're ACTUALLY using your phone. The amount of savings can vary significantly by device and usage patterns, but it is possible for users to see savings of 20% or more. See our web site for more details.

KNOWN ISSUES
✓ Some phones do NOT deliver sensor events when the screen is off. Examples include some HTC phones, some Sony Xperia phones, and quite a few Motorola phones. PocketLock may not work properly on these phones. See this link for more info: http://www.saltwebsites.com/2012/android-accelerometers-screen-off
✓ PocketLock causes significant battery drain on some phones. The effect of the PocketLock feature varies widely from one phone to another. The longer that you have PocketLock monitor for removal from your pocket, the more power will be used. Most phones see a minor increase in power consumption when using PocketLock (4-8%).
✓ Stillness detection doesn't detect small movements on some devices. A few devices have very coarse-grained accelerometers, and as such movement is not detected well, causing stillness timeouts when the phone is actually being used. I am working on a fix for this that will be in an upcoming release. Most phones are fine.
✓ Screebl doesn't startup when the phone is powered-on. On some phones (HTC in particular) the "fastboot" capability can cause problems with Screebl being started at power-on. I've done my best to fix this, but it still is a problem on some HTC devices. Also, Screebl must NOT be moved to SD storage.

Great app! It does what it says. I deducted one star from my rating since the widget is not working. It only shows up as a black box and does nothing. Is there a way to control Lock On/Off from Tasker? Maybe you can add that in the next update? *wink* Overall, this app is worth my money and I'll definitely recommend this to my family and friends.

Devs I am using it on my galaxy s4 and screebl randomly gets disabled. Please fix this and I will give 5 stars which is the correct rating for this app.

I can't even begin to tell you guys how good this app is is worked great up until 6.0.1 it's still working but now it will stop working every few days it may even be a few weeks but I'm still using it. I really would like to see the Dev bring this thing back to life. Great app a must have.

T70%
by T####:

Have relied on and loved this application for over 3 years, but it no longer works on Android 5.1. It doesn't stay enabled (every time I open the app, the box is unchecked), and it doesn't keep the screen on even when the notification says 'in range'.

A70%
by A####:

This app works flawlessly. I don't understand why everyone doesn't use it. I no longer have annoying screen timeouts and no longer waste battery life with an always on screen. I've owned this app for years. Excellent work.

T70%
by T####:

This was working great on my Moto X first generation. But it will not keep active on my Moto X pure. I guess I'm going to have to try something else unless this can be taken care of.

T70%
by T####:

I have to keep opening the app to manually re-enable it.

T70%
by T####:

Worked great up until the Android 6.0 upgrade on my Samsung S6. I emailed the dev, with no reply. Not happy! Don't spend your money.

B70%
by B####:

App needs an update to run smooth, it freezes ... no updates on this app since 2014. Found KinScreen much better than this and dev very responsive too.

T70%
by T####:

On it's own Screebl is a bit of a battery hog. Once I set Tasker to only turn Screebl on when the screen was on, Screebl's battery usage dropped from 9% to under 3%. Now it definitely saves more than it uses... By a long shot. The power is real!!!

T70%
by T####:

I used the free version for many years and it worked fine on previous phones (HTC Desire, Samsung S3 and LG G3). I just got a Huawei P9 and decided to buy Screebl only to find it doesn't work well on this phone. Running and enabling works fine and if locked and immediately unlocked Screebl is still running as expected. But when the phone is locked and put down or pocketed for any longer period, when unlocked Screebl is no longer running. Rather disappointing.

T70%
by T####:

I've been using Screebl Pro since the first original Motorola Droid and it is still functioning flawlessly. Now, after all this time, it still runs great on my Note 5 and S2 Tab. I wish it wasn't abandoned by the developer, as there hasn't been an update in 2½ years. Android has changed a lot, but Screebl keeps chugging along. I love it.

G70%
by G####:

It worked great until late 2015, now too many apps cause it to close and you have to restart it for it to work on my Galaxy S5. No updates for this app since 2014. I went for the paid version, sorry I paid for it now.

T70%
by T####:

Does not play well with Android M. Pocket Lock locks phone, rather than merely turning the screen off, even with Smart Lock turned on. In the past, developer has been totally unresponsive, probably still is.

K70%
by K####:

I understand with every new iteration of Android, there will be hiccups and problems. Have to restart the program frequently, which is an inconvenience, but I have faith the developer will fix it. This is the best program of its type, and always met my expectations.

Seems to have stopped working right around the time Lollypop was released. Will not stay in memory, hardly works on S6 (marshmallow). No updates since Jan. 2014. Don't waste your money.

G70%
by G####:

I've had screebl pro for a couple of years now. It has been working great, until installed it on my Nexus 6p. It messes up the compass and messes with the GPS. Un install and GPS works perfect again. Too bad.

S70%
by S####:

Nexus 6, t mobile. Doesn't activate regardless of settings, enabled, but not working. Also unable to uninstall or even deactivate!

S70%
by S####:

I've had it on three different devices with marshmallow, and it dies work on any of them. No response when I tried to contact the developers.

K70%
by K####:

I cannot use Android without Screebl. Screens turn off when you're reading and not touching the screen, which happens often. Screebl prevents the screen from turning off and it does it so well, that you forget it's running. The only issue is with the notification icon in Android M, where it doesn't update range status.

S70%
by S####:

Works great on my Nexus 5X with the exception that the icon does not have a color fill unless you pull down the notification panel. It still keeps my screen on while I use it and shuts the ho down 5 seconds after laying flat. On my galaxy s5 it is either killed or turns itself off but that phone is high as a McDonald's sign (off of custom ROMS and random super user permission requests that is). Every app on that phone gets a free 5 stars, this app, Screebl Pro earns it's 5 stars. However, I feel the name would be better if it were 'Screeb!'. But, as they say 'opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one'. Take care, God bless!

K70%
by K####:

Why the hell do I need to open the app every 5 minutes to re-enable it. Also make it so it is still enabled after every update, this is getting extremely annoying now.

S70%
by S####:

The notification in the bar does not have any colour and does not change colour when changing it via settings.. Stays black.. Lg g4 marshmallow

S70%
by S####:

Ever since Marshmallow update Screebl randomly shut down. Also (small gripe) the notification colors don't seem to be working. Just stays black.

S70%
by S####:

This is one of those must have type of apps.. The best around the play store

S70%
by S####:

This makes life easy with different android phones & tablets, I use it on all 3. Set to minimal & forget. Using power button (to off screen) becomes a thing of the past. I like the little green icon in notification area(you have to chanel the color in settings) showing me it's working.

S70%
by S####:

It worked PERFECTLY fine before but the past two days it has stopped every minute and I have to go into the app and enable it again. PLEASE FIX SO I CAN HAVE FIVE STARS AGAIN!

R70%
by R####:

After updating to Android 5.0, Screebl has trouble staying open. I'm finding myself constantly going to the app and clicking on the enable screebl button. Having paid for this, I'd expect it to work. I guess I was wrong.

I don't know what sensors and algo Sony uses, but it works in all situations and without hassle. Screebl is just full of problems and problems compared to that. The position of proximity sensor in Xperia Z had rendered this app useless to me because Screebl pocketlock triggers in all orientations. Now in my Z2, the sensor has been moved, but I don't need anything other than Sony smart backlight anymore.

R70%
by R####:

Most Devices made in the last year have this functionality built in, but with better implementation. On particularly lollipop, this causes all sorts of problems with Galaxy s5. App appears to be abandoned, ((last updated over 15 months ago))

R70%
by R####:

It might be cpu load related because it's an old phone but at random it will disable itself other than that I love it

R70%
by R####:

But I'm hoping you can fix it. I don't need Screebl on my lock screen. Could you please find a way to remove it. I've loved this app for years.

Although my Xperia Z3C has a 'keep awake' function it's not a patch on this. One of the few apps I always install because it's so useful, been using since beta days.

R70%

Regardless of device I'm using, screebl gets disabled for some reason

R70%

App constantly deactivates itself on both of my devices. Been doing that for a while now. Wrote to the developer but didn't get a response...moving on.

R70%

Works great on Samsung Note 3 (Lollipop).

R70%
by R####:

Keeps getting killed and have to constantly manually restart. Doesn't work with Lollipop. Want refund.

G70%
by G####:

It will not stay on, totally useless now... Looking for alternatives

S70%
by S####:

I purchased the pro version for the pocket lock feature. My phone (Nexus 4 with lollipop) locks OK, but doesn't unlock. I have tried different timings in the settings. I even ended up purchasing app twice while trying to fix it by uninstalling/reinstalling as Screebl Pro didn't register on Play, even though the Pro version showed up on my Phone. I contacted the developer, but got no assistance. Disappointing! A reluctant 3 Star rating because the free portion of Screebl works, but I had that for free.
