About Widgets for Gmail

Widgets for Gmail is an easy to use collection of beautiful home screen widgets in a variety of sizes - from icons to large widgets - that show an unread count of email and SMS / text messages as well as previews (sender, subject and content). It can aggregate messages from different sources into a merged (combined) inbox.

Many widgets show you the unread count, but this is the only one that shows you the content of these messages are and who they are from.

This app works with the latest version of the Gmail app. It does not require third party apps like K-9, nor logins and passwords. It just works!

Review of an older version on TalkAndroid: http://www.talkandroid.com/100486-get-a-cool-gmail-widget-for-your-android-smartphone-available-on-the-google-play-store-video/#more-100486

Features:
- Quickly preview and deal with your mail from the widget - no need to open Gmail to reply, mark as read, archive, delete or view attachments.
- Automatic updates for labels that are set up to be synced in the Gmail app
- Previews - shows the first lines of the message in addition to sender and subject (depending on size) on the widget
- Supports different labels (e.g. Priority Inbox, Starred, and custom labels) from several accounts, even on the same widget (Unified Inbox)
- Follows the material design guidelines
- Customisable appearance through themes and different colors
- Different sizes to choose from, including scrollable, resizable stack and list widgets
- Option to show SMS / text messages
- Marshmallow ready (works on Jelly Bean or newer)
- Support for "gmailified" IMAP / POP and Exchange accounts

Known issues:
- It may take up to 30 seconds for the widget to refresh the first time or after a reboot. During this time it may not look like anything is happening. Please be patient. Subsequent updates are much faster.
- If you don't see the widgets in your widget list, reboot your device to make them appear

Being able to change colors and set transparency makes this great for any theme you have going on. One thing I would like (even though I can just delete it) is an option to remove the "Sent from Widgets for Gmail by katzoft" when you press compose. Maybe a $1-$2 paid version that doesn't have enough it?

B70%
by B####:

Edit: Any way to fix the widget opening by default to All Mail? I'd like to have it open to my Inbox. | Update: the error was mine - when adding POP accounts to gmail, it shows older emails as new. Now the only thing missing is the ability to change the color of label/folder color strips. Thanks to the developer for the quick reply! | Would be 5 stars if there was a way to show the emails in reverse order - i.e., newest first. Other than that, awesome

I recently switched my phone home screens to an overall pretty dark theme to conserve battery. My calendar is dark, music widget is dark, weather widget is dark.... So the standard Gmail widget white and red really stuck out, so I downloaded this app. It allowed me to have a Gmail widget that functions almost exactly like the stock Gmail widget except comes in black and grey instead of red and white. Cheers

It's perfect! Exactly what I've been looking for! And thank you so much for keeping it free without awful ads. I uninstall apps like that, which has been the majority. But this one has impressed me beyond my expectations! You rock!!

U70%
by U####:

I haven't had any issues with the bugs others have had. I love the fact that it runs more than 1 widget for different accounts. I would love to be able to delete emails (spam, junk and emails that I can read on the widget)

T70%
by T####:

Not a bad app. It tries to get too involved with sending a reply and leaves a note after each email that it was sent from that app which you can probably change but I found annoying. No crashes though and can be customized

Q70%
by Q####:

Very handy, a few things either don't work as I expected, or I'm not on to it yet, like I know I have more in my inbox than it shows. But may have a setting wrong. Will re-rate after more use.

B70%
by B####:

Quick tip: Let us change the color of new emails versus read ones. I can't tell the difference between them and it's hard to tell what's what. Otherwise, love the widget!

S70%
by S####:

I've been trying to solve this problem with any luck. this widget keeps displaying emails from the past! inbox from 2009, primary from 2011. Edit. the problem is self corrected with the coming of new emails. has been my main mail widget app due to its customization ability, though sometimes it linked directly to gmail instead of opening mails on its own. but overall suit my needs perfectly.

H70%
by H####:

Love the way the widget looks, its exactly what I was looking for, but it has issues opening the Gmail folders seems to open a blank header and no info displayed

H70%
by H####:

Great looking and works well. Would prefer some way to dismiss or "mark as read" unread emails without having to open them from the widget but it still works well none the less.

A70%
by A####:

Nice app, solve my biggest issue with inbox. Why do you need permission to insert new emails? Is this the way you display adds?

S70%
by S####:

This is perfect, a low profile inbox for every account, especially helpful because it puts multiple emails and even texts all in one spot on your homesxreen. Customizable color and opacity makes it fit in easily. Highly reccomend.

S70%
by S####:

Hate that white gmail widget

Z70%
by Z####:

I really like the app, just one kinda big issue, I wish the widgets would auto update..

S70%
by S####:

But is there a a way to replace the loaded text at rhe bottom of the mail with our signature. Without doing it every time

L70%
by L####:

Slow slow slow. Froze constantly and puts your mail all in the same mail box instead of separate. Not my style and I don't need to have my phone slow any more than it is! Uninstalled.

S70%
by S####:

You can actually combine tabs and you have transparency options. Just what I wanted. I also like the green and blue bars on each h email

S70%
by S####:

As another stated, it could still use some polish, i.e. the widget transparency setting is a little wacky, etc. Overall, though, the app succeeds at it's stated purpose and manages to accomplish alone what would otherwise take 2-3 homescreen widgets/apps. I would publicize the SMS widget...very useful. Great on RAM!

Z70%
by Z####:

Despite the listed features, there is no support for any accounts other than gmail. A post on the developer's userecho site by katzoft says there are no plans to update this app in the future. Wasted half an hour. Oh well.

S70%
by S####:

Looks like exactly what I was looking for, but it takes forever to update. I have the stock Gmail widget below this one and the stock one updates and then this one updates a few minutes later.

S70%
by S####:

The key feature for any widget is to maintain connection and continue to update. Over a similar period of use, approximately three weeks, GMail's widget had to be deleted and put back twice. WfGM? Not once.

S70%
by S####:

Seems really good so far. Any chance of adding exchange support so I can have a widget for my work email? Would seem to make sense since Gmail now supports exchange email addresses. :)

S70%
by S####:

Looks and works great. I just hope the developer(s) won't abandon the project, and keep up with maintenance and updates. It seems to be the only decent email widget app.

C70%
by C####:

Don't get me wrong I still use this widget but if it could launch 'Inbox' over the standard gmail app it would be awesome. Otherwise better than the standard gmail preview widget.

Very good, I'd just like a few minor things added, as unlimited message scrolling in the widget and showing of the labels I've created.Other than that, it makes that ugly, bright default gmail widget much easier on the eyes.

A70%
by A####:

Now I can see updates for all my accounts in one widget. It's exactly what I've been looking for.

H70%
by H####:

Google brags about the ugly material design. Nothing better than transparent widgets. Very nice.

A70%
by A####:

"- Replying now selects the correct account in Gmail and Inbox" however I cannot find any way to use this widget with inbox, it always tries to open Gmail...

D70%
by D####:

Only shows about 3 days worth of emails. Gmail widget gives you up to a week's worth. How about an option to specify how much to show in the widget? Also, inline images don't appear in messsge view.

D70%
by D####:

Loving the way it makes my social media/email home screen look.

D70%
by D####:

I have a Gmail account and an exchange account. I use both of these accounts on my Gmail app however for some reason this app does not show the exchange account I have on my Gmail app. Please make exchange accounts supported on this account and then this will be the best app ever!! Please reply and thank you!!

B70%

Great app! Works just fine and solves the widget problem that the gmail app doesn't.

N70%
by N####:

Similar feature should be Gmail built-ins

D70%
by D####:

When in check to show only my inbox it displays messages that are not in my inbox.

N70%
by N####:

One widget for my primary label won't sync (only shows 3 days ago email) with 30 days sync and notifications on. My other email address and labels are all fine though.

N70%
by N####:

Good enough, though some extra features would make it great - like, preview of message in the widget, marking as unread/read/starred in the widget, etc....

Y70%
by Y####:

I've been trying to solve this problem with any luck. this widget keeps displaying emails from the past! inbox from 2009, primary from 2011, you need to have this fixed, otherwise you will have to market this as a novelty app with less usage in daily life. I think it has to do with leaving out years in incoming emails, focusing on hours, dates and months.
