About Kanji Renshuu

Kanji Renshuu (漢字練習) is a flashcard application to help you practice Japanese Kanji characters. A simple Spaced Repetition System (SRS) is adopted to schedule and organize your Kanji practice.

Kanji cards are labeled with 5 different colors from red to lime green. This color shows the difficulty level of a particular card according to your personal practice performance. A card's review schedule interval and appearance frequency during practice will be adjusted according to this level.

There are 3007 most frequently used Kanji characters registered in Kanji Renshuu database, each are indexed and given an English keyword according to the book "Remembering the Kanji" by James W. Heisig.

Notable features:
✓ Simple, straightforward UI.
✓ Simple, adjustable SRS to keep your practice focused and efficient.
✓ Color labeling as a clear performance indicator for individual cards.
✓ Performance graph to keep track of your daily practice progress.
✓ Search Kanji cards by English, Kanji, readings, or SKIP code (e.g. "1-3-5").
✓ Filter Kanji cards by Jōyō grade and JLPT level estimation.
✓ Backup and restore cards data to external storage.
✓ Kanji stroke order diagram.

The development of Kanji Renshuu is inspired by many existing flashcard applications. Concepts and ideas are adapted and adjusted to suit the developer's learning needs. If Kanji Renshuu doesn't fit your needs, you might want to consider these alternatives:

✓ Anki: Notably one of the most popular SRS flashcard app.
✓ StickyStudy (iOS): SRS flashcard app with color labeling for individual cards.
✓ JA Sensei: A complete suite for learning Japanese with Kanji quiz feature.
✓ JFCards: Simple, straightforward flashcard app, but with no built-in SRS.

Good app for learning kanjis. Although, it would be better if the card selection method can be improved. For example select all kanji's that belong to a particular level or have a coman radical. Selecting individual cards is tiring, especially when the number of kanjis is high.

Doesn't have settings to test on all cards and forces a very limited study methodology, which will slow the progress of most people down.

I was studying kanji from Dr. Heising 's book, and this is a very nice add on. No plugins, no need to add anything: just download and you are ready to go. ありがとう

It's a good app, well designed and easy to use. I would like to have the option to hide the kana in the flash cards, so I can practice the kanji to kana and not only kanji to english.

If only you can put your own Kanji to learn instead of the default ones than it would be 5 stars

This app is a flashcard style leaning tool and it's really well put together with so many words and phrases to least.

Fantastic app which uses the same order as the Remembering the Kanji book series. Used in conjunction they are a fantastic memory tool.

Really great app. Would be even better if you could randomise the order of the cards i.e. shuffle them up.

I think that it would be nice if there was a feature where we could draw the kanji on the card and then compare it to the answer when we flip.

Still can be improved by adding JLPT levels in the cards filteration section.

Has really helped me start learning kanji. I only wish the default sort view would stay, so I don't have to change it every time but that's just a minor inconvenience!

I use it almost daily. Love the ability to see your progress

Like being able to read the on and kun BEFORE I click so I can differentiate between kanji that have similar meaning ,or being able to save the progress more accurately,(all the cards were the colour I had previously, but they all were due on one day.) Or to put a confirmation on "back up cards" because I was trying to press "restore" and accidentally clicked "backup". So my restore ended up being the 10 cards you start with. Both on different occasions and both frustrating.otherwise AWESOME!

I'm currently learning Kanji with RTK by James Heisig. The app is an amazing tool to go with the book, since the index is based on the book itself. I just would like to thank the creator and give him a little suggestion. RTK has been updated and now has a few more kanji that are not listed in your app. For example I can't find 嗅 (to sniff) in the cards' index. I'd would love you to update it, please. Anyways 5 stars! Never had a problems with the app and it does what it's supposed to do.

I like all the app, because I like the Remembering's course, but need two things be perfect: 1) Spanish and other languages translation; 2) choose other font for kanji, because the actual one confuse me a little.

I like this app a lot. The UI is clean and intuitive - not cluttered with a lot of junk. The ability to filter by JLPT level, grade or RTK is great, and the method of adding cards to the deck is so easy. The killer feature this app is missing, and the only reason I can't give it 5 stars, is the ability to write and check the Kanji on-screen. Many other Kanji apps now offer this function so it's nothing exotic. Adding this feature would make this app my absolute #1 kanji study tool!

I love this program overall, but I'm getting more and more frustrated by the mismatches with the books' keywords. At least let us change them manually! It also doesn't include the new 2010 additions to the jōyō kanji lists. Update the list and add a bit more customizability and this will go back to being a 5 star app for me.

Good app to remember kanji... Only problem is, what's the deal with the old timey translations. Eg. 向こう is translated as 'yonder'?? Apart from that it's a really well made and simple app

Simple and brilliant.. wish the practice would randomized the cards though.

Is it because lite ver limited the cards? If so please let users know by mentioning it in description.

I've been using this app for a while now as a supplementary study aid, and it's quite useful. But there are flaws. I don't know where he got the keywords from, because a huge percentage do not match the RTK entries at all (5th ed. at least). RTK3 ones especially are a nightmare, with the same word used for many kanji. I've requested the ability to manually edit them, and he responded nicely, but until this is corrected I'll have to downgrade my vote a bit. [Side note: I just finished RTK1 today! Yay me!]

I really like this program. It's a great study tool that you can use every day. A relatively minor adjustment that would be nice would be the ability to flip back on the same card after revealing the kanji. After getting one wrong it would be nice to review the character.

It's good, and I like the interface. I'm even considering switching from Anki to this. One suggestion I'd want to make is providing common compounds the kanji are used in...and maybe suggesting which readings to remember, based on what's commonly used (like what KanjiDamage recommends). But otherwise, I really like it. I just wish I could import my progress from Anki easily. =]]
