f.lux (preview, root-only) for Android
I really like this app. I was using it on my PC until I got some computer glasses but still want it on my phone so that when I turn it on in the middle of sleeping my face isn't blasted with light. My only issue that I work the night shift and I can't seem to change the location even though it is clickable. I have changed my "Wake Up" time, but it's the same time it changes to the red hue. Because of this my screen is always in a state of F.Lux being active. Once I can do that this app will be perfect!
Actually filters blue light allowing a smooth red spectrum to flow through. Does not place a fake red shade on your phone like Twilight. Also has 3 different times of days preset for 3 different levels of light filtering....... Unfortunately the Con is I noticed it drains my battery very quick. Using Chrome for 45 min straight non stop on the train to work used to only take up 8-9% of battery. When the light filter is on and doing the same activity it drains 14%. Doesn't happen when Flux is disabled.
I love this app, and have it enabled both on my laptop and on my phone. I love how easy to manage it is, and how well it adjusts the brightness settings without much input from me. However, I do feel there is one thing missing that would make it amazing. I wish there was a widget, or a persistent notification that would allow me to temporarily turn off the filter and turn it back on. I would give this app five stars if that were to be implemented in some way.
It seems to be working really great. It looks way better than any other app I tried. In a feature release a whitelist for apps would be great. And it sadly doesn't always start on bootup. It says that it starts but it only really works when I open the app manually. Sadly only worked with SELinux Permissive Kernel. After returning to stock, stopped working. But I hope there is a fix possible in the future.
I've used flux on literally every platform it was built for, and I've never been more pleased with a piece of software. I've never, ever, had a single problem with flux, on anything. This Android version was long overdue, and I understand the challenges of achieving what it does on a platform like Android, but these guys have impressed me. It's still beta-ish, software, but it works very well for me. I have full confidence that the devs will improve hardware support, which should improve performance. Kudos!
For a preview it has been working very well on my Nexus 5X! I've been waiting for f.lux to make its way over to Android since jailbreaking early iPhone models and enjoying on it those mobile platforms. No other app does it as well, can't wait for an official release.
Very stable with S4, but needs its own brightness control seprate from sys. No unusual battery drain. The best part is this isnt an overlay overlay filter! A very nice piece of kit. - S4 KK444 Root AT&T ROM - Note II KK442 Root AT&T ROM Not working
Unlike twilight, blue light filter and other apps that show an overlay this app seems to actually calibrate the screen colors working in root mode. So the dimming and blue light filter seem natural, the yellowish tinge of the screen really warm and relaxing. This is the best blue light eyes saver if it works for you. I have had some issues on different ROMs. Hope the devs fix it and I would be ready to pay $2.99 for this app.
The color is just... Woaw. So much better than Twilight and his red filter. However, some things must be improved. First, sometimes the filter turn off by itself and I have to relaunch it by hand, or not it depends. A few other stability problems must be corrected. Once this will be done, that would be awesome. Keep it up guys, good job!
Wow, just wow. It works perfect. Even for a preview version. Still a few kinks here and there but I'm sure it'll be fixed. One request. Is there a way possible to implement dimming the screen brightness more further? That would be nice. Since my phone is still bright at lowest brightness. Its my phone's problem, so no stars deducted. Keep it up dev!
This is such an amazing program. I am so glad to have this on my phone now. There is a slight bug when installing apps the disables f.lux for a second or two before returning to your preset. Other than that, this app is perfect for anyone who likes to use their phone late at night in bed, or in any dark area.
This is a great little app that makes using your phone in the evenings or night much nicer and easier on the eyes. However I work split shifts, and find myself having to turn it on or off accordingly. What's needed is an option to set on/off times ourselves, this would be a five star no problem!
I love this program. I work odd hours and the pc version is absolutely amazing. This app has a few bugs that require fixing, but it's because displays vary wildly with phones vs pc setups on a tech level. Full faith in this developer. 5 stars because it's a preview. Would be 4 if this was a RC
It is obviously a beta and will be improved. On my lg g3 it does not do the transitions so i have to manually turn it off and on. The screen also goes black and i have to press the power button to turn the screen off and on to make it reappear. So far i am happy with the quality it makes the screen look and am hopeful for its future.
Uninstalling... From my rooted Note 3 with Lollipop 5.0. Just did not made any change... Screen remained same throughout the day. I have been using F.Lux on my desktop for over an year and works like a charm. Will try once there is better support.
I was really looking forward on having this app on my mobile phone, too.. but unfortunately it's not working on my phone. First it says "starting f.lux" and in few seconds it says "f.lux was not able to get root access." Hopefully they'll fix it soon!! I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
My device is running lolipop and rooted with KingRoot occasionally my screen will go black but as soon as I lock and turn the screen back on it goes back to the f.lux state. ****Dark room toggle works flawlessly and no more black after changing color driver.
Thankfully blue light it is being discussed a to lot more now that everyone has a screen in their hand! Several eye-safety App Devs don't quite seem to get it, I'm confident the original low-blue people can do it with f.lux!
The transitions between preferences is fantastic. Although I'd like to customize the preferences a bit more, I'm content with all other aspects of the app. The biggest issue I've faced is the fact that installing and updating apps through the Play store freezes f.lux for a second, turning the tint off before reverting to it's working function. Not a bug that ruins the experience, but should be something you're aware of for some devices.
The other reviews sound awesome. It's too bad it didn't work on my Samsung Galaxy S6 (said it couldn't root). It's too bad, I was excited to try after f.lux was mentioned in an article in Time Magazine. I will uninstall and search for an app that works with my phone.
For one I am a flux user on PC and was waiting for an android version since I don't really like the reddish tinge on othe4lr apps however there are some issues. Flux gets the colour right but timings of the day wrong. Second my phone lags while it is running. Needs improvement definitely till it can be adopted by many.
Bummer. Was really looking forward to using this app after reading all of the great reviews but unfortunately it's not working on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Upon start-up it says "starting f.lux" then "f.lux could not get root access". Hope they find a fix for this model.
It works great because it disables blue light instead of applying red filter which makes everything look way more pleasant and black colors aren't screwed. Thank you developers. Root only, stop giving bad ratings for that.
I have to set my time that I want flux to turn off? This isn't the flux I'm used to on my PC. I expected it to activate and deactivate automatically with the rising and setting of the sun but it does not do that. Additionally, my screen will flicker from the color saturation of flux being on to the white glow of it not being activated quite frequently. Needs improvement and I will not be running it until these problems are fixed.
f.lux is absolutely amazing, it does exactly as advertised. I've been using it on windows for years, and to have it on android, so I can lay in bed and read without my eyes being burnt out, is great. Only 4 stars because it sometimes will randomly stop yellowing the screen for a second or so, very occasionally, but I have no doubt it will be fixed in future versions. Great app, well recommended.
I am user of flux for windows and linux. The way it help me none other app does i am 200% sure soon this app for android will be bug free and also for non rooted phones. Best of luck devs much appreciated ur work. SH
Works well for color balance and relaxing your eyes. Dark mode/late night reading breaks after a few seconds to a red background with black text instead of black background with red text. The latter would be nice if it can be fixed
A low priority persistent notification after sunset would be nice. It should have ability to turn on and off f.lux, quickly change filter type and enable or disable reading mode. EDIT: It's making my phone lag tremendously.
Alas, only composite mode works on Samsung Galaxy S tablet, and it is slow and causes pretty bad screen lag. I hope the dev will support Galaxy S. It has Exynos processor and Adreno GPU
Great app, rooted my phone and now it works. The app frequently turns off for a second and comes back. Would be great if it is fixed so that the screen is yellow at all times over night. I'm using a HTC One M8. Android 6.0
Say I don't want my screen to be dim in the evening, say I want it to be normal till 10pm, there is no option to make it happen. Hopefully 5 stars when you guys add this. Other than that works beautifully on n6p
Yesterday I got to get through this software and was pleased. So I searched it on Android platform and wow, this too is a great app. Protects eyes from itching, reddening and from now no water flowing from my eyes when in bed-reading in dark. Thank you Dec's.
Just wish I can disable bedtime feature or be able to set when bedtime is. Phone gets noticeably more laggy but I don't mind it too much. Function then optimisation. Fight on guys!
Until last night I was using cf lumen as I am a big fan of cf lumen and using for several years now. I installed this app last night and started liking it. This app is not starting automatically after every boot. I am using with Huawei P9 (rooted systemlessly). I had to look for alternative to cf lumen as it doesn't work on rooted which are using phh's binary (latest magisk systemless root).
Nexus 5. Stock ROM. Issue 1: the display sometimes flickers from cool to warm. Issue 2: videos won't play! I get audio but no video.
I've been happy with CF.lumen (on Nexus 6) but the thing I like d about flux on windows was that the warmness changes during the night but it didn't on CF.lumen so I started using flux and it's been good, it would have been perfect if it had a toggle switch to turn it off in notification bar. I hope you include it in the final version
I'm sticking with twilight until android makes this able to do with out root I'm not bricking another phone. set twilight too 2400k and intensity at 80 and its good enough
I'm getting massive battery drain while this is running. I'm talking 100% to 60% in a time span of 25 - 30 minutes. I'm not 100% sure it's being caused by f.lux yet, but it began after installation and it's first night of taking over. I have installed better battery stats and will track it tonight. I'm not experiencing the battery drain during this morning, so it's leading me to believe it's this app. I will update tonight.
Work fine on Lg g2 lolipop 5.02. But after start f.lux. I can feel my screen alway have hot temp not only sleep time but all day. Battery used from this app more than I thought.

I've been waiting for this for so long! I used Twilight for a couple of months but it's just a red colour layer over the screen, doesn't really make it as comfortable as f.lux. The darkroom mode is amazing! Loving this! For Nexus 4 users: ser the display driver from compositor to Qualcomm. I noticed speed and stability improvements after this change.
