Just Ahead: Audio Tour Guides for Android
Bought the 1 year subscription hoping to access the guides. they charged the credit card and didnt activate the service. The only way you can contact them is through email and they don't respond. How can you charge 30$ for a service without testing whether your app works. It is such a pain for the customers. I was supposed to go to a national park the next day and I couldn't access the guide. I paid 30$ and I don't even have a way to get refund.
Works perfectly on Samsung Galaxy S8+. No crashes. If you are visiting a National Park and you don't have this app you are doing yourself a massive disservice. It made my trip to Death Valley and Joshua Tree 100X better. It was like being in one of those Jeeps from Jurassic Park but without the T-Rex.
Discovered this app while visiting Big Bend NP, the guide to Big Bend includes other sites in Brewster County, and it's a free guide. Very well done, I was impressed with the research details and the voice actor. Proper pronunciation of local names, and a voice up that made me feel that he was both knowledgeable and proud of "his park". What you would expect with a local guide. The "stories" vary depending on direction of travel as well as location, and stories are not repeated, subtle but appreciated feature.
The Great Smoky Mountains edition is fabulous. We have been to the Smokies 100's of times. We experienced the Mountains like never before. I surprised everyone in the car. I was like having a tour guide with us. Download the app before you go to the park it works great no cell service needed.
This app claims to work without internet or cell service. It does not. It's hard to get service in most national parks anyway and this app took my $30 for a 30 day use of any tours they have. It shut off after 48 hrs and wanted more money. I waisted my opportunity at 2 national parks. Don't waste your time or money.
The app works well, we enjoyed it a lot as we drove thru the smokes. Be sure to allow time to set up all the Bluetooth stuff, it can take a few tries. Use the preview button to test the audio.
Love this app. And when I had a technical problem they were terrific in getting it solved.
Great when it works but unfortunately it constantly crashes and freezes - tried to contact support via the app which didnt work but when i emailed them i got a very quick refund so thanks for that
We loved this app for Yellowstone!! It reminded me of the movie Jurrasic Park where they had their ride narrated. My girls and I learned souch about the park. I esp. loved the history!
Amazing
Great app used at Big Bend for free.Really gives cool info while driving. Auto plays attraction info! No data needed after initial download. Needs more free maps!
Great concept. Pointed out a few points of interest we would've missed and provided interesting histirical facts. However, it frequently crashed. When it did it would just keep repeating "Welcome to Just Ahead..." until you force killed the app. Also, seems to use lots of battery life. I could point out a lot of user interface improvements as well. Even with all that we used it 3 consecutive days.
Perfect tour guide to places. Support team very responsive to any assistance needed! Plan to buy more guides with our next trip.
Not compatible with Android Auto, which is a pretty major deficiency for an app meant to be used while driving. To use this app, I would have to disable Android Auto, or get a separate USB port that is not attached to the stereo so I can keep my phone charged.
Tells and shows the magic of the parks.
This app is all about money goodbye
Used this app in Death Valley last week and it was awesome. The ability to use the maps in offline mode was fantastic since cell service is so spotty in the park. Very informative and easy to use. Looking forward to seeing what other parks will be added in the future.
First, the price is up to $30, not up to $10, per location. They falsely advertise. Second, the offline maps would not work at all for me. All I got was a grey screen with a GPS dot floating around. I'll never be suckered into paying $20 for an app again. These peoplr have cajones asking for ao much for an app that doesn't do what's promised. Don't trust this app to work when you need it. Instead check out the Gypsy guides which worked phenomenally for us! Oh, and it was too late to request a refund...
Loved this app while touring Joshua Tree National Park. Lots of interesting narration as I drove through the park, and with GPS triggers, it knew exactly when to tell me stories about the scenery as I navigated the park. It was like a personal tour guide. I'm subtracting one star because this app crashes a LOT, and I was forced to kill the app and then restart it. Without question this would be a 5-star app if the bugs are worked out.
It is magical to have the app tell stories and give information about hikes and what there is to see. However it crashes every couple of miles. So you constantly have to restart it. I would like a refund because it just doesn't work.
Too Crashy! It would be great if it would run for more than a few minutes before stopping. We were driving through Tetons and Yellowstone Saturday on our way home and I thought this would be a fun thing to use (I read about it in a magazine). It started out great, but quickly went downhill. It would simply stop running. Sometimes mid sentence, but more often it would work for 10 minutes or so and then we would go a long way with no narration. Since the audio has pauses anyway, we often wouldn't realize that the app was crashed. I would restart the app and it would work again for a few minutes before crashing again. Eventually I gave up. I restarted my phone, turned off bluetooth/wireless/etc, but nothing seemed to help. I'm not sure, but it seemed like maybe it only worked when we had cell signal - which is rare in Yellowstone! It did work better in Tetons, which has better cell signal. But the app says that cell signal is not required! I'm going to try to get my money back. Don't waste yours.
We used this application during our family trip to Yosemite Park and it was flawless !! They were charging $180 per person for a Guided tour in a van and we were 12 people !!! We used our rental Van and connected My Samsung Galaxy 6 with the App to the audio system and it worked perfect !!! We felled like the tour guide was inside our van !!! Very good details...Good Work !!
I enjoyed this app out west. Great support,
I tried the free part but the little pins were so close together it was hard to select just one. And it was nearly impossible to tell where we were on their map. If it gets a makeover, it might be better.
Paying $8 to $10 per NP guide when there is so much free information in guide books and on the net is beyond dumb. Waste of time to download this app.
The Death Valley trip was great lots of interesting information while driving through the different areas of the park. Well worth the small price.
So informative and intriging. Poi knowledge, history, trivia. My favorite app!!!
I paid for the death valley guide thinking it would be a great way to tour this area. Well it wouldn't open in the app at all so I tried to reinstall the app, during which process my download was deleted and there's no way to redownload without paying another $9.99. What a ripoff. Have emailed the company, no response so far. Not impressed.
freezing while downloading first guided tour.. :(
Downloaded it but does not work at all. Removed from my phone.
Perhaps at $10/guide people have stopped at the free download of the guide manager and didn't pay the steep cost (of the nine available as of 28 May 2015, seven are $10 and two are $8, I know I never made it past the first step. I'll be waiting for a few hundred reviews rather than just the one written by the company's PR department. Or a price drop to $3...
While a good idea, the execution is poor. The current location may be buried under duplicate markers. There's no way to find a particular location short of clicking on each one. An alphabetical index would be a useful addition. The map doesn't show a direction or scale. Not particularly useful at the Grand Canyon, where there is more walking than driving.
Yeah, download app for free and everything else is 10 bucks.
Used this app in Death Valley last week and it was awesome. The ability to use the maps in offline mode was fantastic since cell service is so spotty in the park. Very informative and easy to use. Looking forward to seeing what other parks will be added in the future.
I used this app on a recent trip and used the guides for Arches/Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, Zion/Cedar Breaks, Bryce and Capital Reef. Really enjoyed this as supplemental material while driving in each park. As a tip, be sure to bring headphones so when at a park with an optional or mandatory shuttle, you can still use the guide while on the shuttle to listen about the upcoming stops.
Tried capital reef utah. The voice would only activate about 20% of the time. The rest of the time you would just drive through the spot and it would say nothing. Tried manually activating the guide by selecting the markers but many of the markers for highway 12 were about locations inside the park. Great concept but not worth the 8 dollars. Overall a frustrating experience.
Activated my free trial, still wanted me to pay for the tour.
Planning a two week vacation to the National Parks in Utah in September. This app is like having your own personal travel guide that details your experience as you drive or hike nearby. Fantastic!
Just travelled to 4 national parks out of Utah's Big 5! Great app for families with children. Kids were more interested listening to the app more than us parents explaining or handing the brochures to read. This is a now "must have" for me in all my national park visits.

UPDATE : Tech support fixed the app, and now I love it! I would love to use this app, but could not get any tour guides to download. Did receive prompt response from support after first email, tried suggestions from support, they did not help. No response from support after emailing to tell them that. Would love to rate five stars if the darn thing worked!
