About AutoCast

Automate Your TV with AutoCast.

******IMPORTANT NOTE*****
Please don't rate the app 1 star because it's not a standalone app. Contact me for a refund if you've bought it thinking otherwise.
AutoCast is a Tasker plugin. You need to have Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm) installed to use most of its features, so please be aware of that before using it.

You can get a free trial of Tasker here: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/download.html

Also, to create everything you see in the demo video you need other Tasker plugins. Please read the video description. Please don't rate the app 1 star because of this. This is not supposed to be a standalone app at all. Thank you for understanding.
********************************

Learn all about AutoCast here: http://joaoapps.com/autocast/

This is a demo version of the app with these restrictions:you'll always cast pre-determined images, audio and video. Text you cast with the lite version will be prepended with "AutoCast Demo".

Get the full app by buying the unlocker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autocast.unlock) or an in-app purchase.

AutoCast is a Tasker plugin that gives you full control over your Chromecast. It not only enables you to cast images, audio and video from Tasker, but you can also cast and control many other local or web contents, like YouTube videos and playlists, notifications, voice, and web pages! You can also take over other apps that are being cast and control their playback!

CUSTOM SCREENS (Learn how to create one here: http://joaoapps.com/autocast/custom-screens/)

In AutoCast anything you cast is a custom screen.
Built-in screens:
- "Full Screen Media". Here you can cast video, photos and audio in full screen, so they look their best. For example you can cast a slideshow and at the same time listen to the system Audio from your phone. Or you can be watching a movie in AutoCast while you receive all your Android notifications on your TV. You can even watch a slideshow of photos and videos, all in a row.
- "Alternate Home Screen". Here you have a screen that is really similar to the built-in Chromecast homescreen, but it shows whatever photos you want and you can add any info you like on to it, like the current weather, or if the heater in your house is currently on. Like in all screens you also get all the goodies of an AutoCast screen, so you can get notifications on it for example, or you can play some music in the background.

You can also cast any existing web page you like, assuming that the page allows for this.
My goal with AutoCast is that people from around the world start creating their own awesome custom screens which you can then easily import into AutoCast and use.

YOUTUBE INTEGRATION
In AutoCast you can cast a YouTube video or playlist on to any screen. With the help of AutoShare you can cast a YouTube video from your Android Web Browser for example. Or with the help of AutoRemote you can cast a playlist from the YouTube Website.

MULTIPLE SOURCES
With AutoCast you can cast media from an ever growing list of websites and sources like Dropbox, Vimeo, Flickr, Gametrailers and more! For example, you can cast all the photos on the Flickr explore page as a slideshow. Or you can cast a Gametrailers video from your favourite RSS reader on Android.

MULTIPLE USERS
Because AutoCast can also send messages from your Chromecast to your Android device, you can also create collaborative casting apps, like a photo editor where multiple people are editing the same image.

CONTROL AND INFO
You can control the playback of media in AutoCast as well as some other apps like YouTube, Google Play Music or Plex. You can also get info on what is currently playing, so you could build a remote Chromecast controller on your PC for example. The possibilities are endless!

Not working for me. Tried a couple of phones. An older Motorola everything seems to setup fine. Finds my Google Home device. But Speak command never sends anything to the device. Tried another, phone Galaxy S5, crashes when trying to find devices "Unfortunately AutoCast has stopped" Would like it to work and paid for it but so far no go.

After buying the unlock app for AutoVoice (beta, to use with Google Home) and AutoVera, then AutoTools, I realized that I was hooked on the auto apps, so I subscribed to AutoApps when I was about to purchase AutoCast unlock as well. My wife has been bugging me to be able to set a timer to shut down Google Home when we go to bed. If I were casting from an app, that would be trivial (for most casting apps), but we're typically listening to news by saying "Hey Google, News". No timer available. Enter AutoCast. I have a simple AutoVoice activated Tasker task that waits a certain amount of minutes, then uses AutoCast to stop casting. So simple, and works beautifully. I'm sure there are many more sophisticated uses, but when something solves a real problem so easily, it's great for that alone.

Dev has good ideas, but never seems to keep his apps working long. Maybe he has ADD, because he's always starting new projects, when more than half of his current apps fail to work properly. Numerous comments to reviews say "try the beta", well we paid for this full version, so put the beta here instead of the broken version, if it's so great.

What a nice tasker plug-in. I've set it up so that when I receive a phone call or a new sms, push a speak to my google home for each contact I have pre-entered. Really nice. One "bug" (might be a configuration issue). After I receive a SMS it plays "You have a new sms from XYZ", no problem. If I then start a spotify song, autocast seems to re-connect and take over the device every 30 or 60 seconds (I didn't time it), and stop the spotify cast. If I restart my spotify, same thing, autocast re-connect. The only solution I can find is to disable tasker so it stop taking over the Google home. Is there a way to prevent AutoCast from maintaining connection with the device? One question Is there a way to pass the caller name to the autocast plugin? I've try placing %CNAME or %CNUM in the speach text but it does not get replaced by it's value. I ended up creating a different task for each contact. 4 stars because most help screen don't work in the app "Ooops, page not found" and some advanced exemple would be nice (like.. How to pass variable to AutoCast? :))

I sent an email requesting help will update the review if help is received. **2nd update, I did get one email requesting i try it again, didn't work, no additional response. Lowered rating to one star. Simply won't work. Using a Samsung s7 attempted casting audio files to multiple devices as instructed, no luck. After trying multiple things, reading all I could and wasting 4 hours over multiple days. I'm out, will request a refund next. Good luck! Its an awesome concept! Wish it worked! ***1st update Update 1- I did try it again, no luck :( I sent over the logs. Let me know if you see anything that needs to be changed? Thank you!

For some reason it keeps casting to my TV through my Nvidia Shield TV. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. And yes.. I did choose the Google home, through the autocast. And how long does it take for the beta to come through?

As other users already mentioned, the app will simply not work in most of the cases. Tried several times in my home network - 2 Chromecasts gen 2, 2 Chromecast audio, 1 Chromecast gen 1. Autocast can't find any of the 5 Chromecast above, although all the devices are on the same network. Other Autoapps do their job amazingly well. Autocast, unfortunately, is just a waste of time and money.

D70%
by D####:

This app has a lot of problems, even just basic ones like connecting to Chromecast or casting a page. I wanted to use it for so much, and it's a very powerful app, but the developer won't respond to these bugs rendering the app useless. If it just worked how it's supposed to this would be a 5 star review.

D70%
by D####:

Useless app. Installed it, it says it can't find any cast devices. Launched YouTube to make sure my Chromecast was working correctly and YouTube found and cast to it without a problem. Went back to AutoCast, still claimed it couldn't find any cast devices. Un-installed less than 5 minutes after installing.

D70%
by D####:

The app says it fixed Chromecast couldn't find issue. But it still cannot find it. Whereas the other apps cast to my Chromecast.

D70%
by D####:

Misleading adds! Nothing like that which you would expect. Does not work, prompts you to purchase more apps with more false promises (which offer the option of a refund, but when refund button is pressed - less than a couple hours later- gives an inability message with NO refund), and absolutely frustrating.

This is what I have been looking for. Just a shame it doesn't work. It will not find any of my Chromecast's. Please fix this

U70%

I really liked it, but it takes quite a few minutes to figure out how the Tasker works, and this plugin for that. A note for recent version users (I hope the developer will fix this soon): when you want this app recognize your Chromecast, and the search for chromecast devices do not show anything in its list, just do the following trick: when your are at the AutoCast search for Chromecasts setting, just pull down the statusbar of your Android device, and select "Cast" then your Chromecast device, like you just want to cast your phone screen to your TV. Surprisingly, if right now you go back to the AutoCast search, a new search attempt will just show you the Chromecast in the app, so you can select it. Tested, it works, like I set up an Event in Tasker, when I arrive home, and my phone connects to the home wifi, I launch the Task to turn ON my TV via Chromecast and cast a specific website :)

D70%
by D####:

It took several tries to discover my cast device and casting only worked in certain scenarios. I really like the concept of this plugin, but I get much more consistent results using Autoinput to do my casting.

Hi, the app is not detecting my Chromecast even though it is in the same network

R70%

Doesnt work, seems to be abandoned. As of 1/2017 this doesn't find any cast devices on my network when everything else works great. Pulled up a help screen and got a Dropbox not found page.

D70%

Hello I just bought the Autocast in app upgrade hoping it would enable me to start screen mirroring to my Chromecast with a single button press. However it looks like this is more targeted to starting media, videos etc Are you able to let me know if this is possible? If not are you able to refund? Also, the email address listed seems to be bouncing messages as I tried sending this there first Thanks, -Matt

Great app with a lot of potential, but there's no way to kill it. As well, casting can be very resource intensive, and if there isn't a cast device nearby when it runs, it will run forever in the background, unkillable, until your device dies or it connects. If you don't use persistent notifications then there is a good chance the cast won't work. If you do, then you'll need another task to kill the cast when you're done, which may not work. Intense and unkillable, nearly. Management is poor.

Z70%

Useless. Not finding Chromecast, as of Apr. 3, 2016, despite claims by developer that this problem has been fixed. I have an unrooted Galaxy S7 edge. Don't pay until the developer REALLY fixes!

Unfortunately, the IDEA of this app is way better than the execution. I wanted to cast the Wunderground weather forecast to my bedroom TV when I woke up in the morning. I set it up and about once a week, it appears on my TV. Other times, I just get the "AutoCast" loading screen or, most often, nothing at all (even though my phone says it's casting). There's little to no documentation about the actions you can take, nor a clear way to stop casting without waiting for the action to timeout (hope you set a time out while you were testing!!) I'd love for this app to work--it's a great idea!--but it's just not reliable enough to be useful at all.

D70%
by D####:

Was only able to find a Chromecast twice. I have 5 Chromecast devices on my network and AutoCast was only able to find two but only on two separate occasions. Only one of the devices showed up each time. Super frustrating. Many of the help pages don't work and show up as a 404 error. Seems like this app might be abandoned by the dev. Was never actually able to connect, even the connect to first available device never worked, just a useless battery killer

D70%
by D####:

Great concept, as usual for this developer. Two stars for concept, and because I'm sure it works for others. For me, it won't find my Chromecast v2 box. Other apps find it without issue, so it's not network, device, or chromecast. I'd love to test this, but it's useless without finding my device.

Failed to find the Chromecast nor the Chromecast Audio on network. Other apps can cast perfectly.

G70%
by G####:

It seems to me that the developer just threw this out there and said "Watch the tutorials so you can learn how to use AutoCast (more will be coming out in the next days/weeks)." That was months ago and my personal opinion is there will never be any more tutorials. I don't think a two-hour window is appropriate for an app that is so complex and comes with no instructions. I mean, that's fine if it's a free app, but if you are going to charge for something, finish it before working on a new app that you expect people to buy.

Got this to test casting to my Chromecast but it can't even find the Chromecast. I am on the same network and alll other apps are able to connect to my Chromecast, this one just doesn't recognize it.

Chromecast audio with multi room support would be awesome. Right now this app is useless to me, unfortunately.

J70%

Tried it and it works sometimes but other times it had a difficult time finding my chromecast even though I was connected to Wifi and other times I would be watching a Netflix program and autocast would just randomly cast to my TV without me even touching the phone, it got really annoying only way I was able to fix it was by unintalling the app. Not happy with this purchase
