Writer

This app is great if you know how to use it and if you have plenty of space on your phone. It doesn't delete your stories, you do, which could be accidental, but its still your fault. Also, maybe the reason its not saving is because you don't have enough room on your SD/Phone file. However, it would be nice if they did upgrade it, but who knows? Maybe they're still working on it. All in all, this is a great app and I reccomend it to the eager writer if they're looking for something to write with on the go

While as a basic word processor it excels, ultimately Writer falls short. It is near impossible to export your documents, even with the use of a file manager. This severely limits the use of the app. If such a feature existed, I would be much more generous with my rating, as it is really quite a nice mobile processor. It can be used offline, which is a blessing. But as I said, the lack of exporting options makes this app fall behind. It might be useful as a notepad or something, but I don't think most people will get much use out of it.

It used to be great. However, I had been using it alone for my writing and one day it just stopped running. I couldn't open the app, I would only get a white screen that would never load. I couldn't access or see any of my work at all. After about a month of this I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it to see if that would help, but it still does not open or respond. I love this app before, so I don't know what happened. I would love if this could be fixed, though I know my work is likely gone. I have a Droid Turbo, if that helps. I don't know about other phones.

I LOVE this app!! I would have given this 5 stars easily because I love it and use it every day. I didn't simply because it does not work very well on my new S7 phone. It worked GREAT on my S3, but now it crashes frequently and takes forever when I try to delete old lists. Might just need an update, I hope it gets fixed because I don't want to use anything else. Again, a great little app.

Honestly, the guide gives you written instructions how to use markdown for italics, bold, headers and more. What is the problem? This app is great and if you pay attention to the guide you will have no issues. It could definitely do with some more features like an undo button. Overall though thanks for a clean, nice looking writing app. Best of all, it's free!

I love this app, but as others have mentioned, an undo button is required! I also think that exporting the files to Word or a sync button to share with another device would be excellent. A save to cloud button may save a lot of broken hearts! Thank you.

@Patrick - Just add double asterisk at the start and end of the text to make the letters bold. It's written there (the instructions) how to do it. Ex: **text** ---- Very simple indeed. No need to highlight the whole text just to make it bold, italic. You can even make headers too! Great! ---- I've been looking for an app for writing stories. Finally I found a perfect one. I like its simplicity and the font as well. Kudos to the developer. :)

I have wanted to find an app like this FOREVER, now I have found it! Stop looking this is the app to get! I can now write the story I have wanted to write for years, not to mention its so easy to use, only one little ding. The letters are slightly shifted to the left. If you could fix that THIS WOULD BE LITTERLY PERFECT! Btw when a book called THE NETHER comes out READ IT!

And people, it's Markdown, not "ugly symbols." Look it up. Although I do think it would be nice if the symbols were hidden unless you're editing that spot. I also wish it wouldn't force its own file names. I moved some other text files into the directory and things kind of exploded.

It's greate simple to use and extremely handy. Though could be improved. I write down alot on it and I've noticed that after you go up to 6000 words in starts lagging and stuff. If tou could sort that out it will be great. And just a suggestion but if you could also make the app so that you can send the files. E.g attach it to an email on outlook or somthing. That will come in preaty handy but overall it's alright just needs adjustments.

This wordprocessor is easy enough to get to grips with. Some good features, but could do with much more adding to it. Like the Writing Spot, another app just like this, it could do with a function that allows you to send your documents to your Email address as way of backing up your work and printing it off. For someone who is planning to write poems, short stories or novels, you would be stuck without any function like this.

Very simple yet effective. Accidental deletion is NOT an issue for me so I dont know what these idiots are complaining about. This app deserves 5 stars. It is much better than the other free writing apps. At least this one will properly and automatically save your documents. It also allows you to Bold, italicize, create lists, and use different headers. It is easily the best free writing app I have found.

For being much better than Quick office word documents. You never force close on me, and the typing actually follows my auto correct preferences as I type. Also huge thank you for the auto save and the options to change where saved documents go. The one and only issue I have ever found is an odd visual glitch where sometimes it'll display multiple copies of the same file (only one is actually functional), but so far it has been an excellent experience!

This is so fantastic, I cannot recommend it more for anyone who does any extensive writing from their phone. I do play-by-post rpgs and occasionally like to post from my phone. Quickoffice and others occasionally make me lose entire posts, and transferring from my phone to computer or the website is a pain. Writer does everything I need (and then some) and makes it all so simple! PERFECT. BRAVO. ETC.

I love this app. Had it with my old phone and had to get it when I got a new one. Couldn't help but notice the tab button is gone but I've gotten use to that. Also for people who say the app keeps deleting their work, thats not the app. Whatever phone or tablet you are using must bring up the copy paste and delete bar. I should know i have that too and I've accidently deleted my stuff too. All you have to do is press the paste button before the work gets accidentally deleted. Hope this helps. Love this app

Saves most of the screen for text, auto-formats, and (YES!) auto-continues lists. Requests only one wee permission, & though it doesn't sync it saves files in a known place so I can use Dropsync. Excellent! BUT: doesn't support asterisk lists (which normal Markdown does, & which my non-MD desktop notes program uses), the auto-list prevents nesting, it squanders its screen space by double-spacing (!!!) the text, & has little hope for improvement b/c it hasn't updated in almost 2 years. :-(

Simple app, but very useful. Pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard and you can write anywhere, without being distracted by a million buttons and a talking paperclip. I just wish you could make the font look bigger while typing and possibly make it white on black for better visibility for those of us that type for hours. Although that would add a distracting button, wouldn't it?

This app is very good as a writing app for both online and offline. And unlike others it doesn't consume much of the tablet's processes. But it needs more and by more I mean the ability to create folders within the app and put txt files in the folders. Also the beginner txt file coming back after you delete it gets annoying too.

Great app. I love the sleek and simple design very much. This app is very useful for jotting down ideas and writing short stories. I do wish there was an undo button, though. I tend to change my mind a lot and sometimes I would regret erasing some parts. While I would still remember those parts it would be better if I could just undo my action.

This app works great for quick notes and on the go notes. I'm a stay at home mom but am always on the go. I am usually carrying all the kids things and have no more hands to carry a notebook for my writing. Now if I'm at the park and a story sparks I can write it before I forget it! Love this app! Also love the simplicity of the program. No nonsense to get in the way if my thoughts and ideas. Again, love this app!

Overall this app is really great, because I can write long stories without a problem. The only thing I wished that it had was a form of spell check (because my internal one isn't the best). If you want to take notes in class electronically, it's also really good for that. I mostly use this app with a Bluetooth keyboard, and it keeps up great with the quick speed in which I type. If you're looking for an app on your tablet (or phone) that you can write to your content on, this is awesome and I highly recommend it.

I write a lot of random things and I also have many stories and I need a place to store them. When I am on the computer OneNote is very helpful but when I get ideas on the go I don't always have a laptop at hand. I kept facing this issue until I found Writer. Now I can store a lot easily on a single app on my phone. I am thankful for Writer and use it often. The app never freezes or closes suddenly and is very reliable. It also automatically saves whatever you write. You should definitely get this app!

I like its simplicity and it works well for me and my Android netbook. No functional problems. There are 2 things I wish it did that it doesn't. I wish the tab button worked to add 5 spaces instead of tabbing to another field. I also wish there was redundancy to protect your work. As in a copy to sd card option (not auto save), where I could save a milestone version somewhere safe at the tap of a save button. Then this app would be 5 stars!

This app is just what I was looking for! Met all of my writing needs. This paired with SwiftKey 3 keyboard made for the perfect writing experience. My only problem is that it wouldn't let me keep typing after I got to 9000 characters. I rebooted, checked my keyboard settings, and nothing helped, so I just had to continue in another document. Other than that, great! I would love to be able to change the color of the background and text, and be able to divide documents up into chapters. Thanks!

The app is good for writing but requires some good engineering on the multiple platform issues. The menus don't work on Sony S tablet and Samsung S 3 devices. The app should also have a way of synchronization for multiple devices and there should be a mechanism of sharing what on writes. Reading from all the reviews, I think this app is a candidate for real money for the developer. It's edition is the best I have seen so far.

A great example of what a mobile app should be: elegantly designed, simple, *just works*, and has just enough documentation (enough to inform but not confuse). Feature Request: Sharing to other apps would make it awesome. Also, other formatting options (I'm personally not a fan of Markdown). Menu button doesn't work for me...is that a tablet thing?

Simple notepad app. It's visually pleasing and gets the job done, which is awesome. There seems to be some bugs, at least on the Nexus 7: sometimes it will save a new file instead of simply updating the file opened. It seems to be somewhat random, but occurs more often if I leave a document open and exit the app. Also sometimes after deleting a document, it still remains on the list.

The app is one of the best I've seen or used and I love it. However there are a few things I would love to see changed. An undo button or a option for saving your files. As well as being able to move the app to an SD card to keep from losing files in case of having to do a reset on the device. Other then that the app is wonderful and everything I've been looking for.

As some one who lives on my phone, I find this app very helpful. It's simple but wonderful, I'm very happy with it. I was looking for a good app for 750 words a day journaling, and this app so far is the best I've found. It has a word count and a few other bells and whistles, but mostly it's a blank page between your soul and reality. I love it so far. Thank you!

I love this app -- extremely useful: I use it daily. Unfortunately, after upgrading the software on my Note 4 to Marshmallow (6.0.1) the app refuses to open. All the notes are still present (I can access them via My Files), but I'm missing using Writer! Any chance of a fix? Please?!! Thank you!

Some reviewers kvetch because this isn't a full featured word processor. But you wouldn't want to clog up your phone or your tablet with a memory hogging full featured program. What you want is just what you get here. A slim program that let's you get your thoughts down and get a preliminary edit done. The program works exactly like you expect it to work. It's perfect on my Dell Venue 8 tablet and on my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone.

Good, but hard to share documents created. If printing the type is itty-bitty, difficult to find to attach to email or message. I still haven't found all the ways to change fonts, sizes, italics, bold, etc. Not user-friendly for someone who needs good directions. Very useful in digital note-taking.

The app itself is great; seamless screen blankness makes it very easy to write without distractions. Major problem though: everything is saved locally, and in the case of a temporary file clean it'll delete all your work. This would be great were there an option to save documents online.

Finally, a writing app that just works. Started using this because i was sick of loosing work with documents to go. This works beautifully, minimalist and beautiful. I only have to dock points for the file size limit. They claim ttgat tgis is good for writing novels, but each file has a max of 10000 characters, though opening a new file is easy enough. Also wish ithe intro explained where the files were saves. I would give it 4.8 stars if i could

I enjoy using this app. Works great for jogging down memos or copy and paste articles or writing your own. Only problem I have with it is there is no option to change the file save location to external card. My galaxy s2 crashed on me and I lost everything. So i won't be storing too much in this app until they give that option. Will give five stars at that point as well.

I really liked the super quick download. I have excellent signal strength on my WiFi though so i don't know if that's a typical thing. I've been needing something to help me remember miscellaneous things but I've also wanted to write a novel this year as my new years resolution. My computer just wasn't enough. Need to write this thing 24/7 that's how I work. Good program.
