St. Louis, Missouri sits along the rugged western riverbanks of the muddy Mississippi River. Since being established in 1764 and sold to the U.S. government in the early 1800s, the city has remained as one of the oldest regions in the country. Its colorful history is complete with tales of steamboat races, regional cuisine and the 1904 World’s Fair. To this day, St. Louis continues to be the famous “Gateway to the West,” a historical stopping point for many Americans passing through the country.

But St. Louis residents know of dark stains on the city’s history that refuse to fade despite years of innovation and progress. The famous Gateway Arch, known for its magnificent height, allows visitors to look down along the city’s beautiful, yet haunted landscape. While the metropolis continues to grow and spread, remnants and spirits of times and deaths long past continue to walk the city’s streets and rule its oldest establishments.
