About Wasatch Backcountry Skiing Map

The Wasatch Backcountry Skiing Map is the Android version of the popular paper map and website (http://WBSkiing.com). As with the other platforms, the Android map includes an index to more than 1,000 backcountry locations in Utah’s Central Wasatch mountain range. It's the must-have app for Utah backcountry skiers and hikers. The latest version displays red slope-shading when the estimated slope is 30-degrees or steeper.

With its familiar interface, the Wasatch Backcountry Skiing Map accesses your Android device’s GPS to display your current location on a high-resolution topo map. And with only a few taps, the “destination arrow” on the integrated compass will point to your desired backcountry ski location. (See the app in action in the video, above.)

IMPORTANT: When navigating, the “destination arrow” points directly to the destination without regard to hazards such as avalanche paths, cliffs, and rock fall. It is your responsibility to travel in the backcountry safely.

TIPS: You do not need to have cell service to use this app--you don't even need a contract with a cell service provider. WBSkiing will run slowly if your device is running low on memory.

Amazing app! Best BC ski app around. Unfortunately I must provide the feedback that the app is not working for location. The recent update for Android has rendered it nearly useless for any sort of gps antenna navigation. I spoke with Google about it and they recommended getting in touch with the developer. Google says they informed developers about most recent changes to Android OS. Thanks

Good map. I did have to manually give the app permissions. Would be cool if you could pin and save locations. Or I haven't figured out how to save them.

It doesn't ask you automatically to allow location permissions. You have to manually go in and allow them. Otherwise it will just sit there and spin it's wheels which could be confusing. It's a good map.

Great to be in backcountry and verify where you are and the best approach. Worth every penny. Reviews that complain about not being able to find GPS need to read developers trouble shooting info. It's a setting toggle on your phone.

The search function is a joke

It's a map on your phone and spots you on GPS for easy trail finding

Great app.

Used a few times in the back county. Recently let me down big time when the app failed to load the map while I was on white pine. I wish I had used the money to buy the real map since this app is unreliable. Don't count on it when you need it. I had to use Google maps to find my location. In this app, the compass still worked but the map was blank. What a let down when I needed it to work. And there is no technical support link from the app for bug reporting. Nice

If you have an Android, stick with the paper map. On my Samsung Galaxy S4 this app had terrible resolution unless zoomed all the way in, long loading times, and would constantly reorient if you moved close to the edges. These flaws severely disrupted basic functions. I was looking forward to using this app, but will stay away until it is redesigned for Android.

Great supplement to the analog version and so much fun in the backcountry! Overall pretty good app, maps load slow when scrolling and zooming. Hopefully support will continue for things like satellite image data and route tracking/waypoints.
