About Butterfly Id - British Isles

A stunning guide to all butterflies recorded in the British Isles. All native species, migrants and occasional accidental introductions are covered.

Butterfly Id will help you quickly and easily identify species.

Butterfly Id does not need an internet connection, all the information for butterflies is downloaded when the app is purchased.

Butterfly Id is great fun to use. Identification can be enjoyed by the whole family. For the enthusiast there is anatomical, ecological and taxonomic information too.

Butterfly Id can be used to keep a log of your sightings making it easy to build a record of all the butterflies you've seen.

Butterfly Id has been created by professional published ecologists, and uses images of butterflies selected with the specific aim of aiding identification.

Isoperla apps appear in the World Wildlife Fund and BBC Countryfile's top 10. They have been described as "incredibly useful" by ITV's Seth Conway and "lovely" by Adam Vaughan of the Guardian.

Isoperla field guides are the only products on the market that use the KUSAM species identification methodology. This state of the art method is a modern taxonomic keying system designed specifically for use on mobile devices.

The British Isles are also known as the Anglo-celtic Isles and include the UK (Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) and Northern Ireland) and Eire. Britain or Great Britain is the name given to the mainland within the United Kingdom (the UK). The UK is the political union between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, not a geographical area. The permissions needed to install the app are only used for the Google Map component and to check the licence on the Google Play store. The internet will only be used if you use the sightings map in the app.

Butterfly identification is quick and easy with Butterfly Id. If you are looking for an identifier app for butterflies of the British Isles then this is the app for you.

This is an app with promise. Displays fine on mobile phone. Sadly you cannot open images full screen, which is important to see detail on a small screen. Insists on portait mode which is a shame as many of the images seem to be landscape proportions. The variety in the species is fine, covers what I expected. Devs respond well and update frequently. Have bought 4 out of the set produced. Recommended

Good basic butterfly ID app. Would be improved with more views of individual species and views of caterpillars on target plant/s would be useful.

Although I know some butterflies this is an excellent app to keep on walks wish it could show pics of the caterpillars as well but like there other apps a great search function really helps, could you do one on moths?

I find this app useful with my limited skills of identification out in the field, and find it a convenient aid to help narrow down the my sightings. A useful tool to have at your convenience.

This is a good start. The only thing I'd like to see in addition is pictures of the caterpillars and also the inclusion of moths. Very easy to use though and good pictures to help with id.

Another excellent field guide

X70%

As with the other apps by this developer this is an excellent guide. Easy to use, informative and attractive to look at. The only very minor quibble I have is that it would have been nice to have had pictures of the other stages of development (eggs, larvae & pupae). In particular pictures of the caterpillars would have been very helpful to identify this stage of the species. But otherwise very worthwhile. Any chance of a moths version, or extension?

X70%
by X####:

A very good app but unlike the rest of the series the lack of photos makes identification of some species difficult. For example there are no clear open wing pics of the meadow brown and small heath which look similar. More images of the butterflies would be good. Are you going to do a moth version?
