Iris by Lowe's for Android
The app, for the features it has, works fairly well. I've used Iris for a while now - three years. I really wish i could go back to being able to control my Iris 2.0 on desktop website like I could with the version 1 hub. Some more ITTT features would be cool. For example, if it rained at least a half inch in the last 24 hours, skip the scheduled eating from my hose. Also, configurable widgets would be awesome. One tap on my home screen to activate one of my Iris switches? So much better than all the steps involved to open the app and click the switch then toggle it on... just to turn my lamp on.
Works great. May not be a good fit for those who don't enjoy tech and gadgets....not really a plug and play system. However, if you are patient and willing to do alot of research and "YouTubing" it's an awesome system. I am little worried about the lack of products in stock at Lowe's. Makes we wonder if Lowe's is losing interest....please don't, I will continue to use and add on as long as there is support!
I have had the issues with the system forgetting random sensors over the past 2 months. Seems like every time a new update comes out my system gets messed up. Called customer service a few days ago they said to buy hard lined outlet to strengthen the system. Completely didn't work and sensors keep falling off line daily.
Portions don't work, small grey lettering on blue background makes instruction almost impossible to read, instruction incomplete or missing, edit screens do not give confirmation and require pressing "X" to enter edits, touch is inconsistent and hard, hardware drops off, etc. I could go on and on. Easy evaluation after putting much money and hundreds of hour in trying to make it work. Don't buy Iris.
App works well. The latest updates have certainly fixed bugs & made it more robust. Like how u can make a schedule for any device. As far as the system I have one issue. 1 door sensor is on opposite side of house & guess on edge or hub range so it periodically disconnects & reconnects. Wish they still had some type of range extender. Arming the alarm is problematic when it is disconnected
Frequently lose connection with a couple of my devices and went through three keypads before I finally gave up on them altogether. Overall it gives me a sense of security and an awareness of the status of my home. I enjoy the integration with Alexa-enabled devices and the ease with which new devices are added.
I am upgrading the ratings from 3 stars to 4. The app has gotten better since my last review. NEED VACATION MODE on the app for the thermostat. I am happy again with my iris. Continue the good work. I Just get nervous when I go into lowes and the iris section looks under stocked, and abandoned.
So, Lowes has finally got some things working correctly. However, they continue to sell unsupported devices. I just bought several hose controllers which bind to the systen, but that's it. You can't do anything with them. Why does Lowes continue being so deceptive with the way that market this product? Don't the clowns writing the software know anything about regression testing? Latest update leaves lights in the wrong state all the time. This thing gets worse rather than better.
I have been using iris for about two years. I have used their customer service and have installed over 50 devices. I really enjoy the app, ease of installation/ pairing, and the quality of their customer service. I am pleasantly surprised at the amount of improvements that have happened over two years. I have written recommendations to their design team which have been implemented (what a cool feature). In my opinion this security system is with out a doubt the best bang for your buck. Keep up the enhancements and hard work. You have a life long customer here.
Running the hub, a smart plug, a smart dimmer switch, and two smart thermostat. All (finally) work great. It's been a ling 3 or 4 years to get to this point. The system was very unstable back in its infancy (routinely couldn't connect to hub from Internet, thermostats couldn't be found by hub, dimmer couldn't be found by hub), but all those issues went away in future software/firmware updates using all the same components. That same high stability still present agter receiving the new hub unit (free upgrade from lowes) about 18 months ago.
Best thing besides security benefits is it's good for turning off hard to reach lamp switches. Parents it's a great way to turn kids lights off without going into their room, risking any noises being heard and they wake up.
Easy to setup and worked great..... for couple hours. Stopped working, lost connection to the door lock, can't get anything to work on the hub. First thing tomorrow, piece of junk hub is going back to lowes. It is simply unreliable, and you don't won't that when it comes to security.
I've had Iris since Gen 1, stuck with it through the difficult and frustrating transition to Gen 2. I'm happy there is stability now and everything works great except minor lost connection issues that are easily solved. A panic button in the app would be a great addition and also local processing would be greatly appreciated, just in case the internet goes down and I can still control my system. I am happy with the Alexa integration as well, I can control my lights and thermostat. I have 35+ devices and addons. with my Iris system. If Arlo integration could be possible, I would be very impressed and happy as well. I'm even considering using the professional monitoring service offered, reasonable pricing.
I like the iris system, but I would like to see a "Reconnect" command when a device loses connection. I have too many duplicate devices. Also the 2.0 smart key fobs are garbage. Bought two, the battery connections fell off the circuit boards of both.
Yet another update, with much time and money spent changing the looks and feel of the app, still without bringing back much of the key functionality of gen 1 and full use of the capabilities of many of the devices. I wish the devs would read the comments here and keep them in mind and build those into the app, rather than build new icons and change font sizes.
Update June 2017: Yes!!! Rules and Scenes is free with basic plan. Thank you Lowes and Iris team. 2017 Update: Iris hub seems to be compatible with all my devices. Loving the Amazon echo integration. ___________________________________ I just followed the simple upgrade steps and all of my device's paired in a seamless process, good job. Waiting for more updates, like A/C filter change reminder and other minor things that were on 1st Gen. This hub seems more compatible with other devices. Please keep up the good work.
I love many of the features like smart plugs, and rules. but hate others like the timed water that doesn't work or the lagging horrible camera.
Not user friendly, older version allowed scheduling of switch activations. When making rules teaching guide does not match software. Maybe other vendors offer compatible software?
I think the system is great. I'd give it 5 starts, but it sets a very high bar of expectations, not all of which are met. The internal automation engine still lacks basic combinations, like, if motion is detected, run a scene. In light of that, the unwillingness to integrate with ifttt or Zapier is particularly painful. Integration with Google home is lacking, with support only for switches, AFAIK. Last, you can't really call it a security system without local processing. Can't even disable the alarm from the keypad if internet connection is down. Until some of the issues are fixed, I find it hard to recommend the system to be users.
I love the new updates and I hope they continue to improve the functionality and reliability. I do hope a future update increases the sensitivity ans stability of the icons in the favorites in the app. It is frustrating at times to activate a favorite.
The app is great 4/5, probably the best of any smart home hub. The system as a whole is 3/5, there have been great improvements in the last year as they have seemed to back off pushing the proprietary items, but there are still a lot of kinks and things like whole house power monitoring that were offered with V1 but have not been brought to V2
When I originally bought the system, when doors or Windows were opened there was an audible beep. That has been removed..great feature when you have kids.
Other than Alexa integration the old system was better. The new system is still lacking graphs/charts of the power usage/temp/etc, plus still no support for whole home power usage monitoring via standards based zwave devices that the old system supported and displayed useful information from. In addition to now only showing real-time data, the system is still lacking IFTTT style rule building. If all of my doors are closed, and the shed door opens, I would want an alert, but if other doors are open it is more likely that we are outside and the ones that opened the shed. Full on IFTTT integration would be even better, allowing for connections to other systems and encourage people to stick with IRIS by Lowe's instead of constantly wishing/dreaming of switching to a different system like SmartThings
I'm a Lowe's employee and like Iris my only complaints is for some reason I can't connect my thermostat to iris and my doorlock works occasionally. Any assistance or solution would be great
They need to fix a lot of things starting with getting a full working website. The app is ok but because you only have the app to get things done it isn't that great.
I've been using IRIS for years now, it's only getting better over time. I wish the local stores would carry more product to add to my systems.
Just kidding. Keep it! I have no issues with V.1 other than there are no more devices readily available for purchase. I used to push this system on friends and family but I'll refrain until all the issues are fixed. The Good to Bad review ratio is disturbing. The Lowe's website reviews are even worse. I've never used V.2 and probably never will. The V.1 app used to let you "test drive" the app. That's gone in V.2...Womp Womp!
We preferred the old system better. Hard to read screen and we don't like that it's not able to use on your computer. Not everyone like to do everything on their phones.
It says I should be able to set my thermostat on a schedule, but once I'm in the menu for that everything is blanked out. Now I'm stuck setting it manually!
it is pretty darn neat that i can turn on lights, set me ac temp all 200 miles away, and lock or unlock my door, know when it is locked or not. darn good job
Excellent integration with dozens of devices. Support is good. UI is functional if not inspiring. Would like to see open API that others could write apps around.
It works fairly well but looses my thermostat from time to time. Usually when it is not convenient to reset it. Other than that pretty handy system to have.
The app works well but many of the devices that iris uses are junk. Can't get a good smoke detector that won't keep giving false alarms
Does not work, every step says get help. Installation of hub, adding zwave switches ( try again in 2 days), wifi on iris cam, oops call customer support. If we could charge lows for our wasted time, they would go bankrupt
Our porch led lights are controlled by the iris switch. They come on every night exactly at the same time and off 3 hours later. Can depend on them, but they can be turned on or off anytime with a push of the button on device or by smart phone. We love ours, gives us extra security too when we're gone in the evening.
Getting better and more reliable. I miss the energy card and I miss the graphing of the temperature sensors. I really wish it had a vacancy switch control option (motion stopped) but it's way better that when I first reviewed it.
I'd like to be able to filter the camera clips by camera like I can on the history. Also I have my camera clips set for 30 seconds. Once the 30 seconds is over it can take up to 60 seconds for the movement sensor to reset. Other than that love the app and functionality. Is it possible to get more GB for cloud storage. Or can we save to a disk?
Originally I was highly skeptical of this brand. After all the integrations and the new hub this is a handy system. Next step for me will be thermostats...
My migration went rather well as 21 of my 23 devices migrated with no issues. My 2 NYCE tilt sensors had to reset and re-connect as they were not sensing motion after the migration. Since I read about SO MANY people complaining about devices dropping I went and bought a 2.0 Iris smart plug ($39.99) since it acts as a Zigbee, Zwave repeater. I have not had dropping and re-connect issues since migrating over the weekend. The app is OK just complicated to learn and think most people get frustrated with it.

I like the system and am expanding it. Just started using Amazon Echo, so looking forward to integrating. I wish the double stick tape was better. All of my devices on the west side of my house have slid off the tape! But I don't want to glue in place. I wish it integrated with SmartCam. I've got an indoor camera I purchased from Costco at a really good price. I am also planning on getting the monitored service. Just got to sign up. Instructions are lacking. But after figuring out the first few devices and working more with related devices it gets easier. I am going to add more home automation too. Wouldn't trade this system.
