iON Camera for Android
Completely incompatible with my Samsung phone, which shuts down upon my attempting to use the Ion app. The app works on my Samsung tablet, but that's only half of my devices, which makes the camera less useful. But beyond the 50% usability of the app is its lack of Bluetooth connectivity. As other reviewers have noted, the camera and app must be connected via wifi, which limits usefulness when you're out of range. The app is also incompatible with my new laptop. The camera is good, the interface is nothing but trouble.
Either app or camera having issues connecting sometimes. Bugged out so bad had to reset camera. wifi to camera communication seems to be the issue here. Please compile firmware update and app update together for bug free com please.
I have the ion air pro 3 which works perfectly. But this app is awful. It takes forever to connect with wifi. Also locks my screen and actually reboots my phone. I have to keep closing the app and reopening it to get it to connect to the camera. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. Please fix this and I will gladly give it a 5 star rating.
Bug bug and more bugs. It's just rubbish and uses up half your power just trying to log into it. Definitely would have put me off buying the camera . fixed.. I got a Gopro.. Works fantastic
Needs a lot of work, but most importantly it's not a steaming pile of gopro. No account requirement, no always on internet requirement and hopefully Ion will pay attention to how gp shart all over its customers and still lost.
This app is bad and you should feel bad. Doesn't connect to home wifi or the wifi from your own camera. So this app is just a waste of space. Camera works good tho. So you got that going for you, which is nice.
First off, I know what I'm doing. The wifi on the app is very broken. I can connect to the camera on my pc and go to 192.168.1.2 to see things. I can connect on my phone by actually connecting to the camera from the phone and not the app. But you can only sometimes see the battery level and live streaming. No being able to see videos or pictures you took. And forget about connecting via the app. You will get a 'config remote wifi failed, please check' error. Would be awesome to be able to view videos.
I just purchased an ion Air Pro Lite WiFi and everything seems to work fine with the app. Maybe the people trying to use it are messing something up? The app has you connect to your wifi network, then connect to to the camera dongle. In order to connect to the camera you must select it a your phone's wifi network first! That's the most important step! -1 star because I haven't tested it fully, will update in a week or two.
It takes a little time to start up and there's no indicators to let you know your phone or camera are ready to link. I just needed a way to line up a shot for timelapses and to make sure the view isn't blocked when mounted. I don't use the app(or wifi pod) when I actually start filming. You have to jump through a few hoops(watch a youtube tutorial) to get it started, but it works for my needs.
Installed and connected to my Ion air pro lite with ease. Hint: I connected directly through my LgG3 first, then installed the app and connected through it, no problems. Gave 4/5 because streaming is choppy and app closed unexpectedly twice. But I only needed it to check the view angle, and it achieved that. So I'm happy.
at times I would open the app and connect to the camera to be told I need to upgrade my software firmware. okay but I just downloaded every update your website has. useless for streaming and remote options. super laggy and slow and then freezes. restart the app and reset the camera then repeat the whole process again! camera is great if it works, about once out of every ten tries!
I finally got it working after an hour of trying to get it paired to my gs6. I found the problem on mine was the password. I had to go into my Internet browser and type in 192.168.1.2 to open up camera menu. Go to settings to change password to 00000000 and it worked to about an hour. I can connect and see battery life change setting view live but CAN'T view what I recorded. One of the main reasons for the app.
After updating the firmware for the camera I've encountered the same issue that Luke Albers had. That is: the livestream video is completely hidden by the "start" button. What fixed it for me was to remove the app and reinstall it. Also I don't like that I can't view the livestream in landscape mode. I've found a nasty workaround to fix this: open the mobile browser and navigate to http://192.168.1.2/cgi-bin/LiveStreaming.cgi
I connect to my camera thru the WiFi then it kicks me off . says sorry app as unfortunately quit. Then I go back to connect all my pics or vids turn into white squares. Terrible app. The firmware update messed up wifo connect for original ion camera
I got the app so i can fly my quadcopter around my house with good WiFi connec. Instead the app would crash or have me sign back in, i bought a secound ion camera and the same would happen. Couldnt even get my quad off the ground before the camera would disconnect. No aerial footage or live streaming FPV. So this cam, is basically like any other..i bought me a (Cool i Cam) from the wal store for $50, works just as good as this $180 ion wifi lite without the wifi, here in colorado. Fix this SHITTYAPP.thx
Got the cam got the app . At best it sucks . I just hope I can dump this camera on someone. No controls . The video feed doesnt work. Oh and make a passthru power plug thru the wifi connector so it can have continous power option. This is not a very well thought out camera or app.
Ion clearly does not care about this product or their customers they have decent hardware and with proper programming this could be as good as gopro, however, they have not updated in a year and a half. Making their product obsolete and abandoned. Please someone out there hack their app and improve on it so we can continue to enjoy the hardware.
Once i finally got it connected to the camera the app is very slow. When you start recording the video doesnt continue to play on you phone. The wifi pod servery decreases battery life. The app is very picky on when it wants to work. Great idea very poor execution.
The ION application is horrible. I purchased my camera (Air Pro) about a year ago. I still cannot get it to be recognized on the ION app. So I use it as a paperweight. I am trying to find another app that would work. Don"t spend your money on this system until they upgrade the app with the inputs from end users>
Everytime I open the app it says that the camera needs an update. Followed ion website instructions to the teeth several times but it keeps failing. It says no update file detected.
Very hard to connect to the wifi back and forth to your phone...takes about 5mins to connect. Live stream is very glitchy and can only connect as far as 12 feet away. Camera frames, resolution, and quality ofnthis camera is great for its price.
If you get a "Fails to connect..." Try turning off data usage on phone. Instructions are sparse at best, written by the developer most likely with English as a second language. Company spent their $ on advertising not software.
Fix the issue with the app not allowing live streaming and I'll give it 5 stars. Otherwise I'll uninstall and buy a gopro. *Update* Don't waste your time installing this app. It's crap and the developer obviously doesn't give a crap about fixing the issue.....Mega Crap.
Dreadful app often does not work at all. Very few useful tools. I love my ion air pro 3 but not the app, wish they would put a little effort in to make the app as good as the camera
Update: Got software to work by turning off "Mobile Data" on my phone. Still cant get everything to work correctly. Last update of this prog was 2014, sad. My phone doesn't connect properly. No wonder, it's a current 2016 phone on outdated software, why should it. I really wanted to like this camera, this makes it tough.
Bought the wifi version of this camera to view recordings on android tablet. Although only positioned 1 metre away the connection was unreliable and the app needed frequent restarts. No problem with app on iPad.

Completely unreliable, works one minute but frustrates the life out of you for hours when it stops working for no good reason. Poor instruction. Should be a lot better considering the cost of the camera.

Update this crap app and stop using Chinese developers. There's nothing that screams "I'm a cheap POS!" more than when a product's words are typed out in chinglish. Fix this non-working garbage!
Huge disappointment. So much time is wasted trying to connect the camera to the app. Just run with it, hope for the best, then teather it later. You'll be happier spending more time doing than linking.
The camera is great when i transfer the vídeos to laptop but its worthless when trying to use the app. It's suppose to make thinks easier and faster. The only thing being faster is my battery drained trying to make the videos playback on the app

When you start recording on the ion air pro 2 it just stays still on your phone it isn't real time any more until to stop recording. Battery bar isn't accurate either
I love this camera and like that it has the ability for me to connect to my phone and use it as a view finder. However, if I try to stream across the wifi pod, it's so laggy it's almost useless. I hope they get it figured out!
Pretty much worthless. Using on a note 2. Can't figure out how to get live streaming to work at all. Its a tiny video window hidden almost entirely behind a big green "start" button - can't see anything to determine camera aim. Can get it to start and stop recording. Once its recording, none of the buttons in the app respond until I stop it. Under the "ion" menu I just get a bunch of blank bullet points that I can select and get the option to sort. Terrible software. Bought the wifi pod just so I could use the app, what a waste of money. And without the app I'd rather have bought a different camera. Until they get it together, I do not recommend buying ion products.
Bought the WiFi podz hoping it'd help my experience with my ion camera... The app worked hardly ok when it actually worked but now every time I log on the WiFi it forces my phone to reboot... It really sucks cause the podz not cheap...
First of all it's not compatible with Kindle Fire HD (which is Android) when I use my HTC phone and take photos or videos it does not appear in my album I have to connect it to my computer to view them. The Mi account I can connect to it on my computer but not through the app. Great idea but was not proven out, poor execution and is still in development stage in my opinion. Current use of this app is to adjust the setting of the camera. The software to install onto my computer doesn't work either as I am running Vista x64. May rethink my decision and get a GoPro. Camera = good, software interface a complete failure.
