About SolarScreen: CMC
SolarScreen is the first of a forthcoming suite of skin cancer prevention technologies.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. In fact, over 67,000 people were diagnosed with skin cancer in 2012.
It is estimated by the American Cancer Society that over 3.3 million people were diagnosed with skin cancer in 2015. According to the EPA, approximately 5 million people were treated for skin cancer. In that same year, it is estimated that over 10,000 skin cancer patients died from their illness.
Skin cancer is invasive, expensive, life-threatening, but most importantly: preventable.
The first of a forthcoming suite of skin cancer prevention technologies, SolarScreen is a proactive solution to skin cancer's threat.
SolarScreen provides real-time, location-based information about the sun's ultraviolet intensity; the primary cause of skin cancer. Ultraviolet radiation is ever-present, whether the day is cloudy or sunny; or the season is winter or summer.
With an intuitive, color-coded gauge SolarScreen provides at-a-glance access to the sun's ultraviolet intensity.
SolarScreen may also be configured to alert users once the sun's intensity has reached their personal limit.
Lastly, SolarScreen reminds users to reapply sunscreen after a customizable time limit. Adults may remember to apply sunscreen, but children and their parents will especially benefit from a gentle reminder on especially fun-in-the-sun days.
SolarScreen currently supports only the United States, but we look forward to providing this service internationally.
