Ripple Photos

Ripple is an app that allows users to take photos using their mobile device, share the photos with other users with a specific radius by broadcasting the photo, and re-broadcast photos that other users have shared. All photos have a temporary lifespan during which they are available to other signed-in users, with further broadcasts extending that lifespan. Photos that users would like to keep on their devices can be saved to an album and viewed at any time.

The current climate in social media is characterized by short-lived photos, digital people watching, and virality. With Ripple, the lifetime of a transitory photo can be extended by means of users re-broadcasting compelling images to other users nearby. The origin and the spread of each photo that comes across a user's screen is explorable through the web application interface. Users can see how far their own content travels as well as investigate the history of an image they receive from a stranger.
