About COPD Patient Journey
Designed as a learning game, the COPD Patient Journey contains three levels with various activities that are designed to first teach health care professionals about the disease, and then train them on how to recognize it, evaluate it, and manage it with their patients.
The first level, About COPD, introduces the fundamental facts and practices related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. As users progress through the level, they are presented with interactive content such as changing images, videos, and quiz questions to increase their engagement with and their retention of the material.
The second level, Virtual Patients, offers the opportunity to immediately put the curriculum presented in About COPD into practice by way of four patients that “visit” users at their clinic or hospital. Each patient has a different degree of COPD severity, and each comes with a series of questions that covers all of the subtopics of COPD evaluation and management in proper chronological order. In this manner, users can get better grasp how the curriculum comes together when treating a patient of theirs.
Finally, the third level, COPD Cases, presents key evaluation and management data in the form of patient files. Two variations of COPD Cases exist. The first is Case Studies, with which learners examine files that have been pre-filled to illustrate what the data of a COPD patient would look like, depending on their degree of severity. The second feature, Build Your Own Case, allows the learner to fill in the data themselves. In so doing, they are able to observe the interrelation of many COPD variables, such as their degree of severity and their pharmacotherapy.
Benefitting from both the integration of game design and the collaboration of Dr. Jeremy Road, one of Canada’s most well-known respirologists, The COPD Patient Journey has been created to educate, enlighten, and engage all at once.
