About Outlander PHEV remote control

Notice regarding third party's access to the Mitsubishi Remote Control on the Outlander PHEV (17th June 2016)

It has been confirmed that a third party has tried to decode the password used by the Wi-Fi connection for the Mitsubishi Remote Control on the Outlander PHEV in order to gain unauthorized access to various car functions such as deactivating the theft alarm, turning on/off headlights and/or air conditioner, as well as changing charging timer settings.

At present no incidents regarding unauthorized unlocking of doors, unauthorized control of power switch, or leak of personal information have been confirmed; however for the time being MMC recommends customers who are concerned to shut down the Mitsubishi Remote Control following the procedure under "Remove All Registered Devices."

MMC apologizes for concerns this may have caused. MMC is now studying methods to further enhance wireless connection security.

I own a BMW i3 and a Mitsubishi Outlander phev. The I3 app is so much better than this shocking piece of work. If you use this app you make you car vulnerable to theft as their flimsy concept has been hacked. Similarly, you can't actually use it as a remote app unless you are in range of the car's own wi-fi. What a numpty concept. BMW outshines this by far.

Worked fine on LG G4 but that phone died. Finally getting around to setting up on LG G5 but no worky. I have flushed all registrations on the car using the hazard lights / 20 buttons trick and re connected using my Nexus 7 tablet but LG G5 is no-go.

by X####:

Used to work basic but liked the idea of preheating or calling vehicle. Since updating now it's essentially useless and only useful as a way to check car is charging. Any attempt to make changes to setting just leads to app disconnecting and booting me out. Not impressed this car is let down by this really terrible third party app and media system. Fix this buggy app now pls

It's easier to go outside and set the timer manually than try to use this. It just doesn't connect. Hopeless. Very disappointing. You don't have trouble like this with the BMW app for their electric cars.

X70%
by X####:

Difficult to get working at all, could only do so with 'pidgeon english' help email from Mitsubishi. Them after about a month of working OK, app opens then immediately closes. Re-installing app makes it work for a few minutes, then back to auto-closing.

Ealier post below no longer valid. Now neither connect. Rubbish! Earlier: two Samsung S5s; one connects easily, the second fails. Tried de-registering all phones and re-registering, still the second phone fails.

I70%
by I####:

It's flawed. WIFI is not the right technical solution, a GSM makes more sense. Phone needs to connect to the car's access point, meaning that the phone loses Internet connectivity. Also needs an update to prevent the known vulnerability that allows attackers to modify car settings, drain the battery, or disable charging. It would allow me to defrost the car without leaving the house, but it's probably quicker to pop outside and do it manually.

Mitsubishi may excel in motor engineering but they suck big time when it comes to software and user interface.

by I####:

This is a great idea that works however having to be so close that the WiFi can link is a shame. Car sat outside my office but won't link i have to walk outside to make the link . Should be able to set several timers for the same day

When I first got the car I found it really difficult to register to the app. They may have improved it since but I wouldn't know as it is currently de-registed because of the security vulnerability. It would be inappropriate to rate as any higher than one star while this vulnerability remains. Six months on from being discovered and not a sound from mitsubishi. Will it ever be resolved?

Surely this app could be configured to only connect to WiFi when app is active.

F70%
by F####:

Used it once, bit slow but ok, now it's stopped working all together

X70%
by X####:

A very clunky app to load, use and constantly throws you out. A good idea but very frustrating sadly.

X70%
by X####:

You buy an expensive and complex car and then have this utter tosh foisted on you. If you plan on getting an Outlander don't bother with this app. It doesn't work most of the time and when it does, it's utterly confusing. Someone at Mitsubishi needs to be fired for allowing this out of the door.

X70%
by X####:

App says can't connect. Even after a complete reset and reinstalled app. After reinstalling it worked once

X70%
by X####:

I unwittingly de-registered and tried to re-register the phone on Android 7 beta. You have to remove the WiFi network from the phone. Settings - WiFi - click your SSID then Forget. Start the registration process again from the beginning. Worked first time (I think process is same for Android 6). App is still ugly and confusing but works.

Can't pair with car, just useless, if only I could give it a negative score, say -100 or higher

N70%
by N####:

Updated app, now whatever fixes were made I have no idea as the app no longer connects to the car

N70%
by N####:

Recently updated my phone to android 6 and the app now doesn't connect properly to vehicle WiFi on start up, so I have to manually change to the vehicle WiFi to get it to work. This makes a clunky app even more clunky. Could be so much better.

N70%
by N####:

Lol, worst car ever 1980 style media system and app developed to do pretty much nothing

J70%
by J####:

Helt helt otroligt långsam, ologisk, dålig räckvidd, fungerar inte till och från, WIFI delen låser en ute från internet m.m.... Hur kan man släppa den här appen är en gåta.

N70%
by N####:

I cannot get it to work on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge... I took it to Mitsubishi and they counldn't get it to work either...

N70%
by N####:

It connected once but will not connect to vehicle at all after it updated itself. Keeps providing endless reasons why it cannot connect. Pointless application at present very poor.

N70%
by N####:

The timer is still not working after the fix!

Q70%
by Q####:

This version I can't get to link to the car. The previous version did link. Installing this version means you have to re-link. Bit dumb really.

Messes up your internet connection. This app adds a new WiFi entry to your system. When I go out anywhere, the phone connects to the car thinking it is a WiFi hotspot - which is is not. The result is that I have no internet when away from home. I have to manually turn off WiFi when I leave home and manually turn it on again when I get back. This happens even if the app is not running. The interface is generally clunky and slow. Looks like not a lot of thought has gone into this app. Other than that, it works fine.

Hi I found this to be a good app. I had this app installed on two phone's, both of which I do not have now, and now I an unable to register the WiFi network on the new phone as it asks me to deregister the previous two devices before proceeding further. I don't have those two devices with me to deregister. How do I proceed.

N70%
by N####:

Any other phone connects no problem but not my new nexus 6p. Please fix

N70%
by N####:

Cannot change settings of the vehicle. Overall feels like a compliance feature to keep up with the rest of the manufacturers. A poor effort.

N70%
by N####:

Is it made by professionals? I doubt it. Very basic functions and shap. If I set one to airco timer 1 all days have timer 1 on will change to that time..annoying! Since that last the last update the timers screen does not open

N70%
by N####:

Could be so, so much better. It works, just. It seems to take ages to communicate the smallest commands to the car.. what is with that bar that takes 30 seconds each time? Others have mentioned the issues with the wifi. As all I need is the ability to switch on car preheating I am considering setting up a old cheap tablet, left in standby in the hallway just for doing this and delete the cars connection from my phone.

N70%
by N####:

The app doesn't work on a Nexus 6P, does work on Nexus 5. Reasonable app when it works. 2* due to the failure on 1 phone, 4* if they fix the issue.

N70%
by N####:

It doesn't really shine with quality

A70%

Good app, I like the layout. Slow when 'talking' to the car.

T70%

Very nice app works well with galaxy S4

J70%
by J####:

Please add option to disconnect from car Wi-Fi when app close and option to view door status locked/unlocked.

N70%
by N####:

Well this app is now completely useless, as soon as I try to change any of the timers it disconnects and kicks me out. All I can use it for now is to check and make sure the car is charging or switch the lights on and off. Brilliant.

N70%
by N####:

App is a good idea but usability is not easy and making changes is not always intuitive. It can take over the phone WiFi on Android and leave you with no data connection to the Internet. This should be something that never happens when the app is inactive. Needs more work.

R70%

Slow to disconnect and reconnect to different wifi networks, app takes about 20 seconds to load each page of a few images and few words of text. Graphics are outdated, limited functionality with regards to climate control: no custom options for heated seats, etc.? Hopefully Mitsubishi will hire people who know what they're doing and fix this. Why doesn't the car just connect to home wifi but create it's own? And why does it look like a 14 year old made this app
