المقدمة:
يقصد بالمحدثين الرواة الذين نقلوا الأحاديث النبوية بمتونها وأسانيدها خلال القرون الإسلامية الأولى حيث كانت الرواية والحفظ تحتل المقام الأول رغم ظهور الكتابة منذ عصر السيرة النبوية وتوسع التدوين خلال القرنين الأولين وظهور المصنفات الحديثية المرتبة على الأسانيد والموضوعات خلال القرن الثاني والثالث للهجرة..
وقد صاغ المحدثون قواعد نقدية دقيقة ضمن منهج واسع عرف بمصطلح الحديث، وبذلك سبقوا الآخرين في التنظير والتقعيد لكيفية التفاعل مع الروايات بفحصها وتطبيق قواعدهم عليها لغرض الحكم عليها قبولا وردا، مما أدى إلى اكتمال معلوماتهم عن الرواة والتدقيق في أحوالهم من حيث الصدق والورع والالتزام الديني، وظهرت مكتبة ضخمة في علم الرجال، أثرت في فن الترجمة للأعلام في سائر العلوم التي ظهرت في الإسلام. وأهم المحدثين الذين عنوا بأخبار السيرة النبوية هم أبان بن عثمان، وعروة بن الزبير بن العوام، وعاصم بن عمر بن قتادة، ومحمد بن مسلم بن شهاب الزهري، وموسى بن عقبة، ومعمر بن راشد، ومحمد بن إسحاق، وسليمان بن طرخان التيمي، والوليد بن مسلم الدمشقي، ومحمد بن عائذ الدمشقي، وأبو معشر السندي، وهؤلاء جميعا إما ثقات أو صدوقون عند أئمة النقاد – ماعدا أبا معشر السندي فإنه بصير بالمغازي ضعيف بالحديث – وقد قبلت مروياتهم إما بإطلاق وإما بقيود كما في مراسيل الزهري التي عدت ضعيفة، وكما في عنعنة محمد بن إسحاق والوليد بن مسلم، فإنهما مدلسان، وبذلك يمكن القول بأن السيرة النبوية حظيت بنخبة من أهل العلم دونت أخبارها
