Language Lab for Android
The app emphasizes speaking, which supplements the books for a self-learner, but I'm learning French mainly to read it, so, eh. Content is generally good, though. The interface drives me NUTS. Back softkey exits the app instead of going back w/in it--ridiculous! & you can't set a favorite book to go back into or automatically open where you left off, so I'm perpetually restarting and having to tap through to select the language, scroll down to find my book, select the chapter, and find the set of cards I was working on.
All flashcards, which is fine, but ugly and with a terrible soundtrack. Looks straight out of the 80's. Buy the book (in Spanish at least) but use other services and apps like tiny cards (apple users only), duolingo, mindsnacks, cram flashcards... anything really. That being said, if you can put up with a terrible interface, they aren't bad flashcards.
Flash cards are fine. Interface is crappy. The clicks and music are loud and I can find no way to turn them down or off. Recording myself would be more useful if I could read the words on the same screen as the record feature. And I have the same complaints as others about drilling down, not saving your place, not creating a 'favorites' deck, and the back button taking you out of the app.
Really good addition to learning with the books. Encourages speaking and the fanfare, bells and whistles at the conclusion of each exercise are fun! Have not had any problems with the app.
Just...unimpressive. It works fine for me, but I don't feel like it really adds anything
I was hoping this would be a good addition to the practice makes perfect Spanish Vocabulary book I just bought but it's only a flash card app. I was hoping to get print outs or at least in app exercises found in the book so I don't have to write in the book. Additionally the app navigation is poor. Almost anywhere in the app pressing your phone back key almost always closes the app completely.
The interface is appallingly bad. It would have seemed clunky and hokey twenty years ago -- in 2017 it seems sadistic.
I'm trying to learn to speak the language but there is no audio with the flashcards
Audio works intermittently
Too many permissions
It is a good idea, and for all they seem to have thrown it together, it isn't too shabby. It could easily be fleshed out into something great. The biggest failure this app has is that each time you go to use it, AND after each lesson you finish, you have to select the language you are learning, find your book, then find your chapter. You shouldn't have to click through all of that every time, you should at least be able to save or "favorite" the books you own. It does appear to remember you progression in a book, showing the % complete, once you get there. You can "favorite" cards for later practice but it would be nice if it automatically build a master deck for you of all the cards in your books so you could uncheck them as you gained confidence.
This is a poorly designed app that keeps crashing. Come on McGraw Hill you can do better than this! Obviously you have the content. Invest some money in developing an app that works. This is embarrassing!
Brought the book and looking forward to using the app but doesn't work most of the time, no sound or very intermittent. Needs to be fixed or remade.
There's audio in the app, and it's one of the key reasons why I bought the book
It would be a good app if it rembered where you left off. Fix that and reply to this to get 5 stars.
Useless without audio.
App keeps crashing
All Ur apps are pre installed with BUGS to force people to buy your books. Is it?
Excellent
I own one Mcgraw Hill language book, yet I have to go through most of them to find the one I have every single time I open the app. Also, why have the home button at the end of each deck of cards? Who wants to go back to the very beginning and search for their book again? After initial setup, this app should open to the nook or books that I own.
If you minimize it, it starts back at the very beginning of the app. You have to go through all of the menus to the place where you left off, and then you have to start that entire exercise over again even though you may be almost done with it. Could be a good learning tool but it needs better user controls.
At least on my device, there is no audio. How do you know if you are saying the words correctly? So it is not really for a beginner. I guess it's great if you have a pretty good working knowledge of a language.
I'd rate 3.5 stars if I could give half stars. I like this ap but it is still lacking. Finally I have audio tracks to go along with my "Easy French Reader" book. We can start using the book in our homeschool now. Hearing French spoken is really better than just reading it when you are learning. As an added bonus, I can use the other French flashcards on the app too. Two issues - First, and most important is the audio readings are not complete. I cannot speak for all the books covered in the lab, but the book I use (Easy French Reader) has 3 parts. This app includes the audio readings for the entirety of parts 1 and 3, but only about a third of part 2. Hopefully they update in the future to add those. If not, I will have to spend more money trying to track down an older copy of the book that still has a nonscratched CD (Older versions of the book had a CD before MH switched to the app thing) The other isn't as huge - but the app is designed where you HAVE to use the app's 'chapter/title/home/etc' buttons to go back. Using the back button on your device exits out of the app, rather than just going back one page.
I am finally able to access all parts of this app because it now allows me to scroll through all of the features on it. Still can't access audio download from mcgraw hill.
OK. Love your app and the books. But the sound died on all of my versions (tablet and phone). Help!
Awesome easy access to keep not only my Spanish sharp but to learn other languages. Thanks!
Finally the scrolling works. Flash cards are cool. It looks good.
Loves it
good
The app has flashcards which appear to be useful. It's simply definitions and the word. However, the app does not allow for scrolling down any of the menus so a lot of content is off-limits. Very disappointing. If these bugs are fixed, would give 4 stars as making flashcards is a pain!
Last time this app was updated was 2014. The developer needs to spend a few hours to remove the kinks. Scrolling can be impossible at times and the flash cards are buggy. Great resource just painful to use
Uhmm!!! I don't know why people are giving it bad rating. Its not that bad.
The biggest issue everyone had with this app was solved in today's update. Thanks. It'd be nice to have two different progress bars for English to Spanish and Spanish to English in each section. Or at least it could let us mix both options in one section.
I have one of the Spanish workbooks and was excited to download the app to practice my vocab as I learned it in the workbook. However, I can't scroll down to even find my workbook on the list. So it was a waste of time. Please fix this soon!!!
The parts of the app I can access are fantastic! Unfortunately, the app can't scroll down through the lists of books or sets of cards, so I can actually only use very little of it.
I can't use it because I can't scroll down. I would give a 4 or 5 if the scroll issue is fixed.
The app does not allow me to scroll to the second book I own or access all the decks. What works is good however.
App does not work. No scroll capabilities. This is an easy fix guys..... should be fixed by now.
It won't let me scroll down on any of the pages. I was so excited for this too! :( please fix this.

I don't know how to pronounce some words and some of the cards don't come with audio why I thought this would be great with the book though they have a CD I can't follow along in my car while I'm driving. Wish everything could be audible. Heck if pay extra but ya know that extra should of came with the book purchase
