Secure Settings for Android
NOTE 5 on tmobie. A lot of features just don't work. Doesn't appear the author can or will fix these issues. Example I want to turn on mobile Hotspot... It won't work. It fails with an error message. It appears to have not worked since late 2014! Was going to buy the pro version if it worked but I'm thankful he gives a lot of the features. Out for free to try. Too bad.
I have found this to be an essential tool when writing Tasker code. In fact, most of my important tasks call Secure Settings at some point. Unfortunately, Google keeps throwing a spanner into the works whenever they produce a new version of Android. The latest spanner means that toggling Mobile Data requires root access on my Nexus 5 (Lollipop 5.0.1) using SS 1.3.6, but the Nexus is not rooted! Later: Decided that I can't manage with a limited SS, so I have rooted the Nexus 5 (and Nexus 9) Now on lollipop 5.1. The only problem seems to be toggling Mobile Data, which the dev will be fixing with the next release. Another Google spanner!
It makes my Tasker tasks more powerful... Even with Google always removing some features from API, this app brings them back. Update: Doesn't detect root with SuperSU 2.76, needs an update, but developers seems to have abandoned this app.
This app use to be awesome! Now it's extremely outdated! It's been over a year since any activity on this app has been made. Please at least update the app to recognize a Systemless ROOT. If you don't want to keep going with this project then at least Open Source it! Because now I, like many others, have to look into other alternatives or just start building one ourselves.
The power saving mode toggle from the Samsung rom functions does not work right. It does toggle the notification icon and the vibration-on-touch goes off BUT the light is at same level, the notif message for the PS on is not on also the touch buttons light stays on when it should go off. Can't verify if the CPU is really on a lower speed profile...but all in all is not working right. Also tried the "legacy" function but with that is even worse...other issues. Device is GS5 with stock 4.4.4 KitKat.
4/10 Update: Wanted to update this. App seems to be working fine with the default pattern unlock method now. Having issues with a pattern unlock profile I have set in tasker. Usually works, but randomly doesn't, and then the pattern unlock method switches to default which doesn't allow it to work anymore. Its extremely frustrating because I don't like using a pin. Other than that I like everything the app does.
My Nexus 6p is rooted with a systemless root, meaning there is no su binary on the system partition. Root is still available for apps if they request superuser permission but if they look for a binary they won't find it. My phone is identified as having root with root checker and most other apps, but secure settings still thinks I don't. Please fix!
Was once a staple to have in any rooted phone, but since Android Marshmallow it doesn't work with 100% certainty. This could be due to the fact it hasn't been updated in almost 2 years (since Lollipop). I think the developer has abandoned this app. Last post in the XDA thread by the developer was in 2014. I would love to see updates for Marshmallow or Nougat and if there are I will update my rating.
The interface is nice, simple to use, but sadly, the settings for Power Save Mode (under Samsung ROM options) does not correctly enable or disable. I'm running the Galaxy S7, with 6.0.1. It would really be nice to get that working
This plugin is insanely useful! Unfortunately there's been no updates since last year, thus Marshmallow users are unable to enjoy root options any more.
It doesn't seem to like cm12.1 on one plus one especially for turning off mobile data. Trying to create an action in Tasker to turn mobile data off at night and switch it on again in the morning and it's just not working. Could be a 5.1 issue, any chance you could look at and fix?
Mobile data off action not working. Used app Toggle Data 5.0 to achieve this, also has Tasker plugin. Unless Secure settings support Lollipop there is no purchase from me. So far seems that development is abandoned.
I have used this app for years now and loved its functionality with Tasker. However, with Marshmallow it cannot activate system+ because it cannot find root. I believe this is because the file path for root has changed within MM. If this is fixed I would have no issues with the app at all.
I used Secure Settings to automatically lock and unlock my phone based on the time. Now it locks just fine, but doesn't automatically unlock. It was a 5-star app when it worked.
DO NOT BUY THIS APP BEFORE READING COMMENTS - IT DOESN'T WORK! I have just paid for the app on the misleading information on Google Play that I could set Airplane mode without rooting. This is not true. Tried to get a refund within 15 minutes but couldn't. How do I get my money back? Emailed developer but so ARROGANT that they haven't bother to respond!
Worked great but now doesn't recognize Root access. Some feature requests that would be helpful would be the ability to save Launch Activity Shortcuts and to see the icons of the activities while scrolling through the list.
This app is really a great app (thats why its 4 stars) but I thought it would have Security Settings for samsung so i can root my phone. But this app is still nice and easy to understand
Now with android 7, idk if before also, mobile data does not turn on. and for some reason, everytime i have a task with Youtube and Gallery, the rotation does work, but only for awhile... then it turnz off. wtf? help! this app and awesome with the things tasker cannot do.
None of the Samsung ROM features are working through tasker with this on galaxy s6 5.1.1. Whole reason i downloaded this plugin. And yes, I have it set up correctly. Just needs to be updated for 5.1.1. Other reviews have said the same. No reply when emailing dev.
Setting/unsetting the password doesn't work, and what's worse, it seems to have set my password to an empty one (that is, a PIN with zero numbers). I almost reached my 10-logins-then-wipe before I guessed that. It could be because my phone has encryption enabled, but still, this app shouldn't let me shoot myself in the foot quite so easily.
It's a pretty good application. There seems to be more uses if you decide to root your phone, my last phone I had was, but overall you could still find ways to use this application without root privileges.
This worked perfectly for a very long time despite the greater than a year since last update. With new stock Google play roms systemless root is a must. This does not support systemless root in any capacity.
Secure settings is unable to change the AOSP 6.0.1... Dev hasn't responded to the post in Google+ community in 7 days. Other features (which I have used) are working.
I am suffered from a serious malware attack and it can't be deactivated in device administrator, with the help of this SECURE DEVICE app the problem gets solved without root permissions thanks guys...keep it up!
Usually it works gr8. But since 6.0 it doesn't work any more
Edit: i've contacted developer, and he help me to fix this issue. Now, 5 stars
SS has been my goto plugin on tasker for years. Upgraded to Android 6.0 and enable/disable mobile data has stopped working.
If I wanted to root my phone in order to get access to certain options, then I would probably have directly installed something different than the this Lollipop trash, and not used your app anyway. I want to switch off location services when the screen is off. Nothing more than this will recover my LG G2 the amazing battery life it had before the new flawed os came.
I love this app but it was last updated on January containing some fixes for Android 5.0. Unfortunately, most of those fixes won't work on Android 5.1.
Not compatable with Marshmallow. But I will give it three Star's because it worked great with 4.0, but 5.0 it sucked, and 6.0 it won't even open. If you are regulated to the past this app is for you, if you are on 6.0 forget it. I'm running custom ROM AOSiP on 6.0, but it didn't even work on a stock 6.0 ROM so...
Although once one of the most potent Tasker plugins, now it's loosing its usefulness with each Android update...
I have tweaked my root to work with android pay by setting permissions to 753 on my systemless root... this needs fixing asap
Since updating to DU 10.4, AOSP 6.0.1, app crashes every attempt to run. SuperSU Pro 2.76.
It's mighty powerful with 'GMD Gesture Control' app!
Previously this app would run just fine but after switching to CM13 I'm no longer able to toggle data modes. I prefer to run 2g when my phone is idle and switch to LTE when not, which was possible in the past but not now. Says my ROM doesn't support this option but I'm able to change these settings fine within the ROM.
After the latest update to lollipop 5.1.1 and emotion ui 3.1 secure settings is not working on my phone... developers please fix it I need this app very badly....
Half the functions are unavailable because System+ cannot detect root access. Emailed the developer but no response. Supported the developer by upgrading to Pro. Really disappointed the app doesn't work and the developer didn't respond.
Mobile data toggle not working on CM12.1 but the rest works perfectly. Thank you very much!
I've been using this app for a long time, primarily with Tasker, and it is excellent. However, SS is currently is failing to recognize my configured and properly working VPN networks on my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013) running Marshmallow. I tried to find a place where I could report this to developer but came up empty. Maybe posting here (with the promise of a bonus star in return for reply) will work.

I got this primarily as a plugin for Tasker, as I wanted a profile to enable GPS and start mapping app when plugged into car. However, GPS toggle still shows as disabled (even with Pro version). I have a rooted Galaxy S2 using Pacman rom with KitKat 4.4. Should the GPS toggle work? It would be great to get this to work, but I am still glad I got the pro version as it's a great enhancement for Tasker and I want to support the developer. Still got to be worth 5 stars, even though it didn't do the GPS toggling in my case. Update: I went to the System+ tab and was asked to allow root access. Once that had been done all of the previously disabled options were enabled. GPS toggle now works fine. Already 5 stars, but I'd give more if possible. This is a must-have add-on for anyone using Tasker or similar supported automation app.
