SpeedGrader for Android
SpeedGrader allows you to:
* View Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and HTML documents and more
* View photo and video submissions
* Listen to audio submissions
* Grade using different methods including a simple point scale or a complex rubric
* Edit some Assignment settings and due dates
* Mute notifications before grading
* Comment on submissions
* Simple point-comment annotation on supported document types
If you're an instructor who uses Instructure Canvas, let SpeedGrader turn grading from a chore back to a valuable teaching experience.
If you don't have an Instructure Canvas account, talk to your school administration.
Note: Video and audio submission comments will be supported in a future update.
Loved this idea except after this second week of gradingi am having to go back in after myself and correct grades that are wrong. Using a rubric, it is making students as zero even though they have all points granted in the rubric. Stopping use.
Logged in and it immediately asks to access all my devices files... And closes immediately every time I deny it. Um no. I only need to grade quizzes... Uninstalled.
I started using it for the first time today to correct a student's points on an assignment, and it changed all of that student's points on their 2p answers to some astronomical negative number. Out of nowhere.
I do find this app useful and easy to use, but I wish I could add additional accounts because I teach for more than one college.
Extremely poorly designed app, riddled with glitches. It takes an extremely long time to load in between gradings, and the user interface is a nightmare. It will refuse to save your inputted grades about 75% of the time, even though it gives you a notification that the grade has been saved. Uninstalling.
Downloaded this after I had graded over a hundred responses to an assignment on my computer. Says there's still one left to grade, which there is; also says that the submissions I already graded don't exist, and there isn't an ungraded one to be found with the app. Along with the copious errors and issues encountered with the base Canvas app, seems like they really need to step up their game, here. Even with the latest updates, I still can't grade stuff.
Why does this app even exist? The app lacks the functions of the desktop version: ability to mark up documents, ability to enter numerical values within rubrics. Therefore, it seems to exist only so that Canvas can tout it's existence.
This app is terrible. Every time I move to a new student, I'm prompted to log in. Then, the type is too small to read. And the text is not responsive. I'll be grading from the office.
Graded several questions and then found that grades did not save. No clear button to make grades save.. And they should dance automatically. Terrible app
On the web version of speedgrader, a teacher can scribble notes on PDFs submitted by students. This seems like a natural feature to include in the app version for phones and tablets, but to date, it seems to be missing. Until this feature is added, the app is mostly useless.
Garbage
This app would be great if only there was the option of entering a partial credit grade into the rubric while grading (without having to originally set up the rubric with every quarter-point possibility between 0 and full credit).
Looking forward to augmenting my office time with tablet grading, but no submissions are displayed even when numeric submission bubbles are shown on screen. App is non-functional on my Nexus 9. =[
Doesn't show quiz questions or assignment entries. This info shows up in a standard web browser. Less than useless, it's a waste of time!
I thought the most recent update was supposed to have fixed this problem, but I am still unable to see act of my students' quizzes, even though most of them have in fact submitted their work!
No submissions appear.

Everything I opened this app, it froze and crashed. I wasn't able to do anything from my phone! I'm Un-installing it now.
I like to be able to enter half a point for partial credit, but the app won't count it. Also, I'm unable to give full credit on some assignments because some of my rubric items aren't worth a whole number. (i.e. reply posts on discussions are worth 2.5 points each).
wont even load assignments that are more than a few pages and submitted as pdf or .doc. Just sits there with blank pages loaded up for my final project assignment. works fine if i just load up canvas in chrome on my tablet. I have no idea why the app can't do what the web browser can.
Quizzes don't show student submissions at all. I was so hoping this would work better!
I think a lot of the problems people complain about are because the grading in the [master] course isn't set up well. You have options there to make comments and give partial credit and use rubrics, etc. Works for me all the time.

Try to clear out the cache and data in play store but still cannot install it. Error 505
Won't install. Keep getting -505 error. Have tried all solutions typically suggested. All other canvas apps installed fine, but not this one. I have several GB of space, caches/data have been cleared, etc., to no avail. I can install anything else I want right now, except for this, thus, it can't be my phone. Nice idea, but worthless if it won't install. Is it only for tablets?
Cannot even install! I have attempted to install this on my Samsung Tab S and my Samsung Galaxy S5. Both give me the error 505: Can't install app - Duplicate property authority. Please fix this ASAP! I am able to do this just fine on my iPad between the two apps (Canvas and SpeedGrader) no problem. I expect more from an Android market.
I went through ALL of the playtime troubleshooting steps and still no Speedgrader
While this app is certainly useful, as an English teacher a huge part of grading for me is leaving comments on the submission itself. I can see where it might be difficult to fully integrate all the comment tools in a mobile device, but the text and highlighter tools would at least offer us SOME method of annotating student submissions.
If you draw on a submission as feedback through Speeder grader on a browser on a desktop or laptop, it allows you to click on it in the app and it'll able to be moved around on the screen. I don't think it should be able to do this because it doesn't save anyway. Also, you can't draw on the submission or use the other editing tools like on the browser version. Also, the zoom and zoom out tool is hard to use. Doesn't always work and it's glitchy. Good start, but needs improvements. In it's current form it's very frustrating to use the app for more than reading something and entering a grade. For anything more, it's best to stick with the desktop/laptop browser based Speedgrader.
Used rubric grading in a discussion. After grading one student's work, I went back to revise one of my comments. They were all gone. Completely. I proceeded to the next student and when I paused while entering a comment the entire text of my comment disappeared. Very annoying. Unusable like this.
Very difficult to find which student has submitted each assignment, and then the grading tools appear to be the speech bubble types only. There are not the same options as the PC version so we can't even put any TICKS on the script...making it impossible to mark any of my maths scripts. An incredibly disappointing app, which I shall delete alongside the other canvas one.
Most students' assignments and grades don't show up when I go to view them. The app is also extremely slow to load assignments when they do show up.
It does not tell me what students need grades for. Tried it again. And I still can't sort students by what needs graded.
Would be much better if i could write on the documents through android app like i do on laptop.
I guess if you're using a rubric and giving feedback on assignments, etc then speed grader might be great. But its totally unnecessary and cumbersome when all I need to do is simply input quiz scores. Please just add the spreadsheet style grade book.
When my students submit attached google docs speedgrader doesn't auto re-size. Very annoying. Bunch of other stuff too. One HUGE issue. Instructure doesn't let you suggest improvements. They have you submit an idea then other users have to vote it as a "good" suggestion. Very antiquated, not client friendly and doesn't say to users "your issues matter to us."
If this is as awesome as I hope it is, I will be your #1 fan!!!!
iOS 8 causes this app to crash on my iPad. Because their updates turn their devices into paperweights I switched to Android. This just made my day! I love Canvas and Android! Bye Apple and Blackboard!
Can't wait to grade my first assignment on the Android SpeedGrader app!

Truly horrible. The worst. A sick joke. It does not allow entering numerical values in the rubrics, which alone makes it useless. Add to that the lack of comment and marking features and you have that rare thing: a purely putrid app. Junk.
