Insight Guides Walking Eye for Android
Having read previous reviews I was dubious about downloading the app - However, I am so glad I did! I had no trouble installing the Insider Guide (to Corfu, in this instance) onto my Galaxy S6, and subsequently onto my Google Chromebook, via Google Books. The e-book version is superb, easy to use and jump to a particular chapter or page (especially on my larger Chromebook/tablet format!) Ok, so you can't install it onto your Kindle - yes, that's probably a pain for those with Kindle e-readers, but there are many other e-reader apps out there that I'm sure would work! I bought the print version of the guide without even knowing there was an e-reader version, so I am highly delighted at being able to have a digital offline version to use while I'm away on holiday this year! Thumbs up to the developers of this app - I for one give it a full 5/5!
After buying the book it said that i could download the e-book for free, when I scan the QR code it says invalid code. So it looks like I have to carry this book on holiday
This is a con. I downloaded it to get an Ebook that comes with an Insight paper guide book I bought. I've tried on several occasions and for 10-20 minutes to scan the barcode to download the book, on 2 different devices, but it just doesn't work. I have now contacted them SIX times via their online web form and by email, but NO RESPONSE. Really atrocious customer service. (Okay the app is free but I paid for the book, I would expect them to at least respond to messages). I also see from other reviews here that it doesn't work in Kindle; so how am I supposed to read it offline - assuming I ever manage to download it?! I actually feel that I have been seriously CHEATED, as I only bought the Insight guide in order to get the e-book so that my mother - who is sight-impaired - could read it.
It's rubbish when it says you can use the app for reading the guide then it tells you that an e-book app is needed then it does not work, waste of time sadly.
Bought the travel guide from WH Smith's in Malta. Turn to page 3 with blurb about walking eye app. Download the app BUT There IS NO QR CODE. Disappointed.
Quite poor. Use the book. Also tried the new version. Useless so far.
Rubbish! It says that you can scan the code from the paperback book but it doesn't work. What a pointless app.
QR scanner doesn't work so useless for ebook versions of books already purchased.
I bought the book as a present because it boasted an app which I thought would make navigation easier but after trying to navigate the ebook we dare not risk it.
Clunky and too hard to be worthwhile
Not a single ebook in sight!
Can scan qr code but no verification questions come up so no functionality available. No clear FAQ or help contact details in book or website. Nice idea but poorly executed.
Update. The latest debug seems to have sorted it out now. Much better, can use it now. Well done developer ???? Useless as others have said. Stick to the book. Scanned the book, answered "where am I" & where do I want to go? " says verification successfull & go-to purchases or ebooks but nothing shows there. Frustrating for sure ????
Won't download the book that I purchased and the link to the website for help won't open. No response frome any one from insight guides to fix the problem.
Didn't work with Kindle so I tried their suggested ereader. It says "unsupported book format ". One of the reasons I bought this book was for the electronic content :(
QR code scan doesn't work. Keeps saying invalid.
The new version works way faster!
Still not working
Nice app
Okay only. The info is useful but I can not access my Ebook even with their preferred ebook reader. It tells me unsupported or wrong book type. Very disappointing. I follow their instructions and I cannot access my book. What a shame.
I got this app, it told me I needed an ereader to access it, so downloaded prestigio reader which says it accepts epub type files but I still can't open it. Disappointing.
The app can read the QR code but can't even move past the verification questions. What a con job. I appreciate the guidebook, sure, but my decision was partly due to there being an eBook version as well. Sad.
Slow to install, cludgy interface and why on earth we can't use alternate android ereaders goodness knows. Needs more development and thought. Does the job - but generally just used the book as it did the job better.
Absolutely awful app. Slow and clunky. After wasting a lot of time, I still couldn't read my free ebook. I will now waste a bit more time by uninstalling it.
Would not install unless i installed another service so i removed the app as i had no idea what this other programming did it seemed to be a security risk to install it.
Works fine as long as you use the the ereader that you can get from google play mentioned in another review.
It seems to jam on the first verification question - it says 'please wait...' and then doesn't load.
New Ebook installation stopped working on my android phone. A real shame. It was working fine last year. Please check.
I am unable to download the ebook on my android. Every time I try to scan the qr square in the book I bought the app shuts down.
Following directions to get ebook from book purchased and every road is a dead end.
Tells me ebook can't be opened because i don't have e reader installed but i have Kindle installed.
It just does not work, the app does not pick up the qr code, its just hopeless and a total waste of time and effort!
Scanned code in app which then just sits there at the `please wait`.. Seems pretty useless
Can't connect to server. I am returning the book as I only bought it to scan for app.
Cant load
Tried it with the Edimburg guide. It contains exactly the same content of the guide. Would be great maybe to have more options or being able to search destinations with menus ( of the place you go), but, anyway, I like this guide a lot.
it doesnt work. wont connect. need email set up but cant access great job Insight morons
Whether the Insider's Guide e-book works is dependent on the e-book reader. I have tried several and it works with some but doesn't work with others. Once you can view it with the maps, Insider's Guide is a good reference for maps and information on a destination.
Book upload fails after spending many minutes inching the progress bar across. Repeated, same again. Clearly something badly designed here.
by Q####:
They tout this book as including a free ebook. That's why I bought it. Sadly, they fail to say that it doesn't work with kindle. From their customer service: "Thank you for your email. I am sorry but our ebooks don’t work with kindle. Magdalena Borzęcka | Product Manager" That's why I bought the book! So I could also have it on my kindle!
