What are users saying about The Journal

by A####:

For some reason this app can't update the current stories from the website. Brutal. 2.day old stories are the most current on the weekend. They want to maintain readership but they provide this low level of service.

D70%
by D####:

Good selection of relevant local news. Adds are there but not intrusive. Very rarely crashes. Just wish it gives you a choice of being viewed in landscape mode or portrait mode.

D70%
by D####:

Why are the only sharing options email and Gmail? Why can we view the comments section, date of the article, etc? Why do ads mess with the layout, often causing me to click on the wrong article? C'mon guys.

L70%
by L####:

Now that I see false headlines coming up just to attract viewers ,than later on the article changes . I'm greatly disappointed with the Edmonton journal

F70%
by F####:

Newspaper and their ethics take a nose dive, only fitting their once quite good app does the same.

D70%
by D####:

New design is nice and app seems to operate smoothly.

D70%
by D####:

This was previously my go to news source. Now I'm near deleting it. And the NDP branding is awful.

D70%
by D####:

Missing the comments section

D70%
by D####:

Why do you need access to my photos etc????? Wish I could refresh headlines....sick of same ones for three days now.....there is news out there!!!!!

Z70%
by Z####:

Great app. My only complaint is what you consider breaking news and what I do is vastly different. Guy appeals murder conviction? Nope. Obama makes speach as scheduled? Nope. And this morning it was stocks down for the 10th day this year, nope

R70%
by R####:

Two problems jump out: the app forces you to rotate your tablet (Admittedly a simple annoyance, but a persistent one) and...why read local news when you can just reread news releases and PR. The revolution will not be televised because there are few local reporters left.

I knew it'd be bad. How'd I know that? Because it was good. And you dont mess with a good thing for no reason. The removal of commenting on articles is so terrible. It was one of the best parts of this app.

Z70%
by Z####:

I for one like that comments have been discontinued. The level of 'debate' in the comments usually left a lot to be desired anyway, and that's putting it mildly. Those who really want to comment on a topic can send a letter to the editor, just like the old days. At least that way it should force the writer to put some thought into what is being said, not just some knee-jerk borderline abusive drivel that makes a 6 year old look wise.

Z70%
by Z####:

I should just use Facebook app then, to interact with other readers.

Z70%
by Z####:

No longer able to view videos. What a shame. I used to enjoy this app.

Z70%
by Z####:

Not being able to share comments really sucks. How is a community supposed to share ideas on topics.

C70%
by C####:

Seems strange that designers avoided tablet users. I hope that explains the ridiculously cropped photos along the top of each article. I realize that this is free news, but the lack of substance feels like I am reading headlines and articles that end abruptly. Sigh...EJ

Z70%
by Z####:

Liked that readers could make comments. Provided a better more balanced perspective on what was being reported .... bring that back and I'll be back. Have been trying to use for a week .... find the "news" is poorly reported and not updated much any more. Also hate the orange branding.

Z70%
by Z####:

1. No comments drives me nuts! One of the interesting parts of the old app was seeing how everyone responded to an article. 2. Articles are hit and miss when uploading, only getting the headline and photos. No story. Not impressed.

Z70%
by Z####:

Comment section was best part. Uninstalling going to Calgary herald full time I guess.

Z70%
by Z####:

Stupid. No comments seen . Just proves the Zionist who owns the paper doesn't want any free speech opposing his Leftist Anti European agenda

Z70%
by Z####:

The comments were one of the best parts of the previous version. The old version seemed less awkward than this new update. Just as awful as the Sun app.

G70%
by G####:

Seems pretty much the same as before but with a new look. Which is good, the reason I use it is the simplicity. What happened to being able to comment on articles though? Seems like that's missing.

Z70%
by Z####:

Why? Contents words becomes fewer but It' s so heavy.

Z70%
by Z####:

Twice I've emailed and they can't be bothered to reply. The app resets to the top of the page after I read an article which forces me to find my place every time and it's annoying!

U70%
by U####:

I would rate this a 5 if it had comment section.

J70%
by J####:

The stories don't even open up anymore. Selecting a headline just takes you to another page with a picture and the headline repeated. This is either a flaw in the app, or an editorial decision to only publish headlines. The actual stories seen to be too much trouble for the journal to publish.

Z70%
by Z####:

Orange why? And where is the comment section?!?!?

Z70%
by Z####:

Missing the comments section

Z70%

Why Orange,Oh I know Orange Crush

The old version worked well. The new version is still flawed and should be removed until you get it right. Android user.

Z70%

Only the headline and picture come up. Very frustrating. I never had issues with the old version.

M70%

Previous release was cleaner. App avatar is horrendous.

P70%

Very disappointing

Z70%

i wont update because i enjoy reading the news on my phone knowing the articles I read aren't being profiled. Maintain my privacy online or I won't be using your app.
