SOLOPOS FM berdiri di antara masyarakat Solo dan sekitarnya [selanjutnya disebut Soloraya] yang sangat heterogen, jika dilihat dari keperluan dan kepentingan mereka pada informasi. Setiap kelompok masyarakat, baik berdasarkan strata ekonomi maupun sosial, memiliki kecenderungan memilih media massa tertentu sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka akan jenis-jenis informasi.

Saat media massa, khususnya radio, yang ada di Soloraya nyaris sama dalam memformat siaran mereka yang lebih menekankan hiburan, SOLOPOS FM memberikan sajian alternatif, dengan format news radio. Lembaga penyiaran di Soloraya saat ini tidak ada yang memilih berita sebagai sajian utama.
