Geo Tracker - GPS tracker for Android
It can't get any more simple! When you want to start tracking g, you hit the red button. Want to pause or stop? Hit those buttons! There is so much detail supplied about your routes and the accuracy is quite good. I've found it to consistently be no further than 10 ft off. Routes are automatically saved, which is nice. I use it for kayaking, but hikers, route drivers, etc all can use this app.
It's easy to use. For walks the best accuracy you can select in the "Record Settings" is + or - 10 metres but in practice it's much better than that, the results look good to + or - 2 meters or even a little better than that. You can send the completed .gpx tracks to your computer using the email function and the .gpx files are in a format that is recognised by Google Maps ("My Maps") and by the MapSphere GPS Track Editor v.1.15 beta (build 141) desktop app. The .gpx files are not recognised by the OS Maps app (subscription service to Ordnance Survey in the UK.)
Would it he possible to integrate the pics we take on a trip and show exactly where they were taken on the map?? My only complaint is the top speed. I use it on a sportbike and it has never read a top speed over 108 mph, even if my speedo says it hit 140.
I'm a driving instructor who occasionally has to take students to unfamiliar test centres. Using this I can get a good idea of the areas they may cover on their test. Used in conjunction with OSMand I can not only trace their routes but also follow them at a later date. Fantastic bit of software!!!
I wish I had found this sooner! only issue is it takes a lot of battery.. but that's probably more due to my older phone (moto x, almost 3 y/o) than anything else.
Slick and useful. It has one oddity in that it will sometimes say (bottom left) "No signal" and it's not clear what signal it thinks it hasn't got. I can have a good mobile signal (able to send and receive e-mails) and be out in open country where there should be no problem with GPS, and yet it says "No signal" and stops tracking.
Hey! No words to say, I is very useful to track our way to return to our destinations when we travel in unknown paths. And to check vehicle mileage. I also has optimizations(which does not drain battery faster). Ok.really i found nice app ever. THANKS a lot to application developers.
I like this app, it's easy to use and displays essential and interesting route statics. The only problem I have is that the app does not have a usable method to enable you to navigate (drive/walk/cycle) to a saved route and retrace your steps with the app guiding you automatically to ensure you do not deviate from the route. This is essential for me as I would like to use the app to set off road routes for motorcycle races.
I really like this app. Easy to use. It works even when not in cell tower range, if your smart phone does have GPS. The only thing I woud change is to put the current speed in big letters in the middle of the display. This would help when riding your street bicycle.
Superb app, the best tracker I've used. I used to use My Tracks until Google bought it and scrapped it. I used it for many years, loved it and found out very useful. Google offered nothing to replace it with, shame on you Google! I tried 3 or 4 alternative tracking apps, they all had shortcomings of were far too complicated. About a year ago I found Geo Tracker, it's now my go to tracking app, I've been able to import all my original track files and use them, including the track names and notes. Geo Tracker is super easy to use, invest a small amount of time to get to know it's functions, is well worth the effort. It's operation is stable and smooth. One of my favourite operations is retracing a track. Load it, press current location button, move and orientate location cursor to where you want it on screen, there it will stay while the map mover around it as you travel. Simple! Highly recommend.
Loved the interface, user friendly, gave me info I needed to track my speed and route distances. Altitude measurements a bit dodgy though, but not sure if this lay on my phone or the app. I personally didn't need altitude readings so it wasn't for me a problem
I use this application when running/walking off road and often off footpath. It is invaluable especially when setting a hash (run) for friends. The option of being a vocal report of the time taken (say) every kilometre would be a useful but not essential addition
Not optimized for long tracks. I've been to Italy for 16 days. But tracking even for 1 day (10hours) can make the app very laggy, unusable, not responding. Even though you set recording every 15sec. Otherwise good app with interesting data (speed, altitude, ascend, etc..)
Does what it claims but lacks two features that would make it very useful. The first being it doesn't auto-save your track whilst it's recording so if Android OS kills the app you have lost the route it needs a setting to auto-save every 'user defined' periods of time. Secondly, it needs a way to make the start and stop record buttons available to other apps for automation. EG I want the app to start up and record when I leave the house (That partly does happen because there is a setting in the Geo app that will auto start recording when app is launched) but I want it to stop recording when I get back home. At the moment there isn't any way for that to happen and if you get the automation app to kill the app the route isn't auto-saved. But in fairness, these aren't faults but rather feature requests that would make the app so much more attractive and powerful
I tried out a couple of other apps that tracked routes, speed and distance. They worked 'some of the time' - very agravating. Loaded this one and it did everything I wanted - the first time! I recommend this app, simple with great information and accuracy.
Feature wanted is color coded speed on map rather than blue line as I've seen that in another app. Green for near top speed and red for slow. Love that I can point on track to see status at any point on route. Also stats are great. Can't be much better.
I was primarily a Google MyTracks user however when that shutdown, I used tons of apps however you x this the best. 2 things I'd like the developers to incorporate is: 1: Backup to Google Drive 2: Stop recording based on location., i.e., if I reach the same location where I started, I'd like it to give an option to auto stop and save the recording.
I really missed Google's My Tracks until I found this app. It is simple to use, and does everything I want: mainly recording hikes and bike rides with all the speed and distance stats. It's very stable, but of course, only as accurate as your phone's GPS.
Looks nice.. but doesn't work on my phone. App never managed to get GPS signal, just "waiting GPS" forever. No GPS problem on other apps. Too bad. Edit : it appears now to be fine after a few days. No idea why,. Anyway, great app !
Possibly better than MyTracks. Wish it would show the whole track after stopping the recording. Also, just bought an Android Wear device. Would love to be able to start/stop/pause recording from the watch.
I really like this app. It does almost everything I want it to do. The only two things I would do to improve it is have it track heart rate with a standard chest strap and decrease the battery usage by shutting down when I cut it off.
I use it for hiking, biking and rowing workouts. Tracks well and drains the battery gently. Reports are useful but it would be nice to also have a speed-over-time graph in addition to the speed-over-distance graph. Also, in the map view it would be nice to optionally show segments with below/at/above average speed. Because of these few missing features I gave it only 4 stars, but still definitely worth supporting. --- Update: They added the over-time graphs. Nice addition and quick response! 5 stars!
Don't know for sure whether it's a problem with the app but it is extremely slow to lock in to the GPS signal and then it loses it easily again. For example, I cycled 2 hours 45 minutes today and geotracker told me I did 23 m. Really? It was clear weather too. If it matters, I'm in the tropics. Google's mytrack never had this problem, so I think it's not my phone. It's a pity because otherwise I like the app a lot (sometimes it does work)
On the positive side it is simple/intuitive to use and works well when you are moving. However it is seriously flawed when you stop moving. For the period that you are stationary, it continues recording your speed at the same value it was before you stopped!? It is incapable of recording a speed of 0.0 km/h. Consequently the graphical trip statistics appear to be suspect/dodgy. The error was reported several months ago and nothing has been done to fix it.
Like the app overall but when I tried recording my long trips to work so I know when and where I got stuck in traffic the app does not record a zero speed when my car is at a standstill. Instead it kept showing a constant speed of 30 to 40 km/hr. The speed never drops to anything lower that 20 km/hr. Can this be fixed?
It's great app before, then it came into confusing app. It won't track in background, so I should open it everywhere if I want to record the track and draining battery. Why it's happen?
But sometimes it get pushed out of memory by android and then does not restart automatically. But as long as you don't start a game or so it works fine.. The ability to use openmaps would be nice..
...but I am heaving issues. For example today I had a 5h long drive but app tracked only 50 minutes and 13 miles. Disappointed as I rely on it to track my business miles.
Ever since my tracks became obsolete, I've been searching for a replacement. Needless to say I'm quite impressed. Everything I need and quite user friendly to use. There isn't anything I can recommend. Keep up with the updates and I shall recommend this to anyone, cheers
It starts and stops alot. Don't record my entire trips. Either its on wrong setting or something is wrong. Others in my family it works fine. Just fed up with it.
Even better than I hoped! This app tracks runs/hikes separately, and makes exporting the tracks to kml easy. I like that it splits up the record into average speed and avg speed while in motion. It takes into account all my rest breaks!
This works well but appears to be a big drain on the battery. I went from comfortably lasting a day on one charge, to having a flat battery after a 4 hour walk. On an HTC 9 it is necessary to turn off the battery saver function.
I have used GPS tracker apps in the past, but nothing like this one. The recorded track shown on the map is clear and real time. The stats calculated are really impressive. Blindly choose this app if u r looking fr a GPS tracker.
That's a great app that just does what it's supposed to! Just remember to add it to the exceptions for Doze (battery optimization) for Android 5 or 6 so that our doesn't pause its tracking.
Too often quits tracking when other apps keep tracking. When it starts tracking again it extrapolates in a straight line.
Use this as a replacement for every trail & my tracks since Google stopped supporting it. This is by far the best GPS tracker I've used since everytrail worked & is reliable & accurate enough to show me visiting each property in my daily activities as a postman.
Good app to log trip details with route and other statistics. Very much liked the interface. Only problem is that I tend to lose the GPS connection once in a while in the app which messes up the calculation. The signal loss does not happen in other apps though. Using a xiaomi mi4i.
By far my favorite app of this type! I kayak often but we never knew how long our trips were now we know way more then just that and it only took seconds to learn how to use.
Absolute FANTASTIC app I use with my horse training. Great and full stats export to Google Earth for records. Just pity it does not accommodate the option to log heart rate.

I found this app as a replacement for Google's My Tracks. When I first began using it a year ago I had issues with this app dropping the GPS signal and not recording the entire track. Now, with a newer Samsung phone I have had no more problems with that and I use the app almost every day for running, hiking and biking. I really like how easy it is to export tracks and waypoints as .gpx files, and that I can import .gpx files. On my wishlist: being able to make the tracks different colors when I'm displaying more than one track.
