BA Iglesias es la única guía turística de Iglesias de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires: la solución mas práctica para descubrir las historias que cada templo tiene.
La fe cristiana llegó a Buenos Aires de la mano del conquistador, que a su vez venía a estas tierras con el mandato expreso de la Corona española de propagar la fe y convertir a los paganos. Pedro de Mendoza al llegar al Río de la Plata en 1536 desembarcó con 17 eclesiásticos: seis religiosos y once clérigos. Uno de ellos, el padre Juan Gabriel de Lezcano, según lo consigna su Información de Méritos y Servicios. En ella los declarantes afirman “Quel dicho Gabriel de Lezcano, desde que embarcó por el dicho año de treinta e cinco hasta agora, siempre tuvo cargo de oír confesiones e celebrar el culto divino en la mar, como es uso y costumbre y en la tierra, administrando los santos sacramentos e haciendo oficio de cura e predicando e declarando el Evangelio”. También llegó a crear una escuela –seguramente después del traslado a Asunción- en la cual “tomaba a los indios principales y a sus hijos y los tenía en su casa grande y allí les enseñaba a leer ya a escribir, y sabían el Padre Nuestro, el Ave María, el Credo y el Salve, los Mandamientos y finalmente la doctrina. Les hizo cánticos contra sus vicios para que no comieran carne humana, para que no se pintaran, para que no mataran...”
Mucha agua y sangre nativa ha pasado bajo el puente en estos casi cinco siglos de presencia cristiana en Buenos Aires.
