Alongways - Road Trip Planner for Android
Very limited in the available services along the way. Application is not worth having to pay for it.
Doesn't search by zip code, POI name or respect back button to exit.
Where have you guys gone? You have not improved upon the app and quite a bit. Was hoping that you guys would not abandon this project
Read your story. Decided to give it a try. Good luck to you.
Downloaded the paid version of this app to find out if there were any gas stations coming up on our route. It showed the closest one as 28 miles away, yet we came upon an exit with several gas stations after traveling only a mile. Don't think I want to depend on this app in my travels.
I am a fan and I'm rooting for this app. It is much needed. There are a lot of issues which I have emailed to the developer. Hopefully there is good progress with this app over time.
This is a horrible app. Don't purchase, don't install. I only paid $1.00 for this app and I feel ripped off. Horrible user interface. Search results very limited. Locations I know along my route never show up. I am uninstalling this app.

But I tested a recent trip to the midwest and the web version shows the specific hotel we stay at mid way through, but not on the mobile version. Though the mobile version actually lists more hotels along the route, which I guess is good. Seems like you need to sync the web and mobile to show the same info?

I just downloaded it and it does not work. When I click search from the keyboard it doesn't do anything. When I click the search button on the top right it goes to a white screen.
Unclear as to how to navigate through the app. When you do find a route it has little to no places or things to do.
it uses its own maps (which aren't good), and it's not intuitive at all. basic integration with google maps would make way more sense. disappointed.
Sometimes the search brings up a blank list like when I search for food instead of restaurants. Also, why is my bookmark button stuck in red so I can't use it? Good idea for an app, but please continue to further develop. Thank you for what could really be a useful exploration tool.

Does EXACTLY what I needed it to. Makes me happy! I don't understand why Google maps doesn't do this but this is the best $.99 I ever spent!
Read about the devs on Android Authority. Glad I did. Really useful little app. Congratulations!

Hesitant to install as I was concerned it would just be USA-centric. Pleased to see it is effective for UK trips too.
I consider myself pretty spatially challenged so I'm always referencing maps to find my way around. Alongways has made it even easier for me to find what I'm looking for by allowing me to search for specific places along my trip. HERE'S WHAT I LOVE: Alongways allows me to: - search for places (i.e. hotels, malls, Chipotles, zoos) in between "point A" and "point B" of my trip. - search for RV parking and/or truck parking on my trip - save a list of favorites so I can easily plan a road trip, work trip, etc. It's a great addition for anyone who depends on maps and wants to find tools to make their travel more efficient and successful. I highly recommend!!
Awesome app! Works everywhere I go.
It's getting some good updates, it's showing promise.
I'm going to be making a 600 mile trip next month and wanted to find out what's interesting along the way. I figured there had to be an app for this and yes, there is! But it has a long way to go. The interface is more than a bit clunky with not allowing us to edit the type of attraction without having to reenter the whole route, the list view going blank in the middle of the search, and lacking suitable filters. Now I have no idea how to implement this feature based off the source data but what would be interesting is if you could allow options for min-max distance from existing route as well as time needed to experience the place. We have a marine turtle museum that would take about two hours and might be a nice diversion on a long drive but the safari park is really more of a day trip, you could easily spend four hours there. Distance you already have but average visit time, I don't even think that exists anywhere. I'm giving you five stars for potential but it has a ways to go.
Saw it on Lifehacker and have a trip coming up with my kids. Definitely finds several places along the route that I'd not have thought of on my own but I also quickly noticed some downsides: - Unless you click in a certain spot on the address of the location, it doesn't open the Google Maps app. It'd be much nicer if there was a 'route' or 'go to' button that would launch maps. - It doesn't remember your destination nor does it give a drop down box to select past destinations. This would be helpful if using it multiple times on a trip. - You seem to need to put in both a start and finish destination for it to work. Since it's a mobile app, It'd be great if it would search for the closest locations that fit my craving or need and would list them. I guess that Maps already does this but it doesn't aggregate the data based on the rating of the establishment. Not money wasted but I hope it gets more feature rich.
On my nexus 6, the map appears distorted and no results come up for a search as simple as 'restaurants'

I run a company that does off the beaten path tours (in Thailand) and so I thought I'd see how many points it would return - always on the lookout for more and better info. I realise Thailand is possibly not high on your priority list, but sadly there weren't that many places over a distance of +/- 200km, where I know there to be between 50-100. I'm not saying this app should have all the info I have, but for now at least the returned places leave some room for improvement. I hope that happens. Good start!
This is the most fun with a map app. The craziest things can be found. I like old cemeteries and found lots along my route. Love it.
I broke tradition by buying this app on word of mouth alone. I like the concept, and in theory it looks like the app delivers. I'm definitely looking forward to putting it to the test in the near future. I also want to encourage the developers because this app would fulfill a sorely needed service.
I read an article about your app and decided to give it a try and purchase it. I really love the concept, and though I feel that there is plenty of room for improvement, I bought the app in hopes that it will motivate and encourage you to keep on improving it. Like many others have said this is a functionality that Google Maps should already have but it does not. What I noticed is that it is still a bit lacking in giving proper points of interest. Still, off to a great start, 5 stars.
